As we rev up for Game 6, let's open up the Weekend Chat window....
Joey Bart
7:40
How many at bats will the Pirates give me next year?
Mark P
7:41
Between Bart, Davis, Delay, and Rodriguez, it feels like a trade might need to happen?  But then again, there's so much uncertainty within that group that I can see the Bucs keeping everyone and rotating them through the catcher and DH spots

I will be disappointed if one of Crochet, Kikuchi, Snell, or Fried, aren't wearing Orange and Black(Baltimore). Barring a Burnes reunion that is. Play to your park a little better, Mike. Starting pitching should be 1A, and 1B, on their off-season agenda. BP + Lineup could use a little help, but nowhere close to the needs of the rotation.
Mark P
7:43
Rotation will certainly be at the top of the offseason list, and since we don't know yet how much Rubenstein is willing to spend, it certainly seems possible the O's could go out and bring back a big arm

Ho hum. Two Big Spenders in the World Series.
Mark P
7:44
It was just last season that the D'Backs made the WS while ranked something like 24th in payroll.
Mike Rizzo
7:44
What’s a realistic move for the Nats to show the rebuild is close to being over?
Guest
7:45
I think the Nats sign C Walker
Mark P
7:46
I'm not sure I see Walker specifically for Washington since you'd think he'd want to join a team who looks like more of a surefire contender.  Walker turns 34 in March, so the clock is ticking on his chances of playing for a winner.

A more realistic move could be a Walker-type player, perhaps a bit younger, and more open to joining a club that might be more likely contenders in 2026 than in 2025.
Reds
7:47
Francona isn’t coming out of retirement on a whim. I don’t expect them to add a ton of payroll, but do you think they get aggressive on the trade market with guys like Stewart, petty or collier?
Mark P
7:48
Since the Reds still have a lot of questions about their first wave of prospects, it's not too likely they'll dip deeply into that upcoming wave of prospects in order to swing trades.
7:49
One creative option for the Reds might be trading their draft pick in the competitive balance round.  This is purely speculation on my part since teams are pretty loath to move picks, but as you noted, the Reds don't or won't have a ton to spend.

do you think any move is getting cleared by bloom?  Or could you see mo still having the final decision even though hed not see the repercussions of his decisions down the line?
Mark P
7:51
They're already said that Mozeliak won't make any big-picture kind of moves without consulting Bloom first.
Mozeliak's not going to be like "hi Chaim, fyi, just traded for Anthony Rendon. Kinda risky, but YOLO, am I right?"
Hmmm
7:52
What do you think the Jays do about Alec Manoah?
Mark P
7:52
There's not much they can do besides wait until he heals up, and hopefully is back on the mound before the 2025 season is over.

7:53
Do you see the Tigers make a run at signing Bregman this offseason to reunite with Hinch. Or do they like Jung better most likely as the 3rd baseman of the future?
Mark P
7:54
The problem with Jung is that 3B doesn't seem like his ideal position.  Small sample size in the majors, of course, but his fielding wasn't great this season, and scouts are on the fence about whether he can stick at third or if he's more suited for second base.
7:55
With this in mind, I do think Jung is the likeliest of Detroit's prospects to be shopped, and signing Bregman (or acquiring another third baseman) is a clear way for the Tigers to get more pop in the lineup
Brian Cashman
7:56
Now that Soto showed that he can play in New York AND be productive in the postseason, will I have the green light to give him whatever it takes to keep him here?
Cashman
7:56
what percentage would you put it at that the Yankees retain Gleyber and Soto?
Mark P
7:57
I'd consider the Yankees the firm favorites to sign Soto.  At this point, I'd be leaning towards being surprised if he did go elsewhere.

Torres is a much longer shot to say.  His good numbers in the last couple of months notwithstanding, I think the Yankees want to open up an infield spot
Mr. E. Person
7:58
Would J.D. Martinez or Mark Canha be a good fit in Baltimore if/when the O's don't bring back Jimenez?
Mark P
7:59
Canha maybe, since he can play in the field.  I don't think the O's would have much interest in a DH-only guy like Martinez

John Fisher has to spend some of his revenue sharing money on team payroll. They have five arbitration-eligible players (Brent Rooker, Seth Brown, Miguel Andujar, Austin Adams, and Dany Jimenez), but only Rooker is a lock not to be non-tendered. Free agents with any other comparable offers probably won't sign with the A's. So, do you see the A's taking on some salary dumps in trades (and getting some prospects for their trouble)?
Mark P
8:02
This might work, as wild as it would be to see the Athletics on the other side of a salary dump trade
In this scenario, the A's would likely target "bad contracts" that have just one year remaining, so they can theoretically look to flip those players at the deadline
Dustin
8:04
With the Rockies planning on cutting payroll do they have anyone that is untouchable on the team currently? Bryant is not tradeable.
Mark P
8:05
Tovar and Doyle, obviously.

Besides them and the younger guys, the Rockies should be open to trading basically anyone else, and blowing things up to rebuild from semi-scratch (since Tovar and Doyle look like keepers).
8:06
But, I could've written this same thing about the Rox three years ago, but the team refuses to really undergo the overhaul it so desperately needs
Ryan klesko
8:07
Despite all the analyst talk I don't think Adames is a good value for braves. But what about Kim on a one or two year deal?
Mark P
8:10
Coming off his shoulder surgery, Kim seems pretty likely to sign the Scott Boras special of a "multi-year" contract that is really one guaranteed year and then an option or two.  I can see the Braves or other teams insisting on those options being vesting options or something not entirely in Kim's control just due to the uncertainty over his health.

In regards to Atlanta specifically, the Braves quietly make a point of not signing Scott Boras clients.  It seems to be something Anthopoulos picked up from his old mentor Paul Beeston, who famously iced out Boras for years when Beeston was running the Blue Jays
Mama Mia
8:12
Do you think San Diego regrets the huge long Bogaerts deal? Boston secretly glad they didn’t top it? Thanks for the chats. Always fun.
Mark P
8:13
Bogaerts having a down year at the plate in the second year of that contract isn't a great sign.  Could just be a blip, but...
Big Red Machine
8:13
Would a contract swap of Candelaria to the Cards for Gray or to the Diamondbacks for Montgomery plus or minus prospects or cash work?
Mark P
8:14
The Cardinals want young players for their higher-priced veterans, not Jeimer.  For Arizona, they're presumably keeping Suarez at 3B, plus they have Lawlar in the wings
Armchair GM
8:14
If you were the Astros management, knowing the state of the team, both financially and how weak the farm is, would you trade both Tucker and Valdez this offseason?
Mark P
8:15
Nope, since that's less of a reload move than a rebuild, and the Astros want to win next year
