The Weekend Chat is underway!  Let's take a minute for the questions to roll in, and then launch...
Luc
8:16
Can Ramos keep this up forever?
Mark P
8:17
The .373 BABIP and subpar walk/strikeout rates suggest no, but Ramos' underlying metrics are still quite good across the board.  His wOBA is higher than his xwOBA, but his xwOBA is still in the 90th percentile of all players, so even a lessened version of Ramos looks like at least a solid everyday player
Seth

Do you think Robert will get traded? Or will they wait for the off-season?
Mark P
8:18
My guess is the offseason, so Robert can get some more healthy months under his belt and restore his value a bit
Natitude
8:18
Any chances at an early extension for CJ Abrams? Looks like a budding superstar in DC.
Mark P
8:20
There were reports a couple of months ago that Abrams and the Nats were talking about a long-term deal, but it isn't known if negotiations have continued into the season.  I'd argue that the ship has perhaps sailed on the Nats getting a discount-ish kind of extension given how CJA has broken out, but locking him up still seems like a very sound idea

All indications point to the Pirates being sellers rather than buyers as both the GM and Owner mentioned previously. Do you get the same sense? And if so, will they ever "go for it"?
Mark P
8:23
Selling seems a lot more likely, since it seems like the Pirates just can't get any real momentum going.  If they suddenly reel off an eight-game win streak or something, obviously plans change, but this doesn't feel like it'll be much of an aggressive deadline in either direction for the Bucs
Dan
8:24
I know the Phillies are probably looking at outfielders and pitching now but at some point does second base have to be addressed? Stott is a decent player but he doesn't hit the ball hard and the Phillies don't seem eager to extend him.
Mark P
8:24
Sosa is there as a backup plan, but I don't think 2B is much of a priority for the team.
Braves fan
8:25
The Braves 7-9 hitters arw awful. Shouldn't they take a shot at Tim Anderson
Mark P
8:25
Anderson has fallen off so much over the last two seasons that he can't be viewed as any kind of upgrade.  As noted in that post that just went up on Orlando Arcia, the Braves seem happy enough with his defense that they don't mind his lackluster bat
Big Tex
8:26
Accidentally hit send early. Question is, are there any moves the Rangers could conceivably have made in the off-season that would have them materially better now than they are? Other than signing Ohtani
Mark P
8:27
Hindsight is 20-20, and adding more pitching seems like an obvious call.  In terms of position players, the Rangers seemed about as set as any team in the league, with basically their entire core back except Garver (but with Langford stepping in to fill that gap)
Bama
8:30
When will the Cubs begin to blow up the roster?
Gary
8:30
Can the cubs just throw in the towel already?  I love them, but stick a fork in them.
Matt
8:30
What do you thin CHC plan is for deadline/offseason? They seem to need something more than just some tinkering on the margins.
Marky Mark
8:30
If I'm the Cubs I'm a seller no matter what they do this month. I'd be willing to move anyone whose name is not Steele. Agree with me?
Mark P
8:32
Lots of Cubs fans expressing their displeasure in the question queue, and these were some of the entries that weren't rated R.  You'd have to think Chicago will be sellers to some extent, though as noted in my last chat, it's kind of a difficult proposition since they don't have a lot of obvious trade candidates or rentals on the roster
8:33
Which of course lends itself to a larger examination of the roster this winter.  The kind of full-scale reload that Marky Marky is suggesting isn't feasible given how much the Cubs have invested in the roster, yet it's tricky for Jed Hoyer and company to determine what will have to be done to fix a roster that looks pretty solid on paper.
Jerry Dipoto
8:33
Will the Mariners be buyers or sellers at the deadline?
Mark P
8:34
Buyers for sure.  The M's definitely want to get back to the playoffs, and Dipoto won't pass up a chance to add some offense.
Big Bob
8:34
Come on, tell us your guess on the biggest name the Dodgers will get at the deadline and who do they give up?
Mark P
8:36
Speculative guess on my part, but I think they land Crochet.
The innings "limit" is a question mark for Crochet, but the Dodgers have so many other pitchers who (in theory) will be healthy in the second half that they can get creative with managing innings, having piggyback starts, or moving people into the bullpen if necessary

8:38
I know he’s having a down year, but with both the Braves and Dodgers needing SS reinforcements does Bo Bichette still bring back a decent haul?
Mark P
8:39
Bichette hasn't really been the same since his quad strain last season, so it's technically been more than just a down "year."  He'd still net the Jays a good return based on past reputation alone, but you wonder if Toronto would want to risk selling low on a player who would be one of their most valuable trade chips if they did decide to somewhat blow it up
Bman
8:41
How does Miranda get credit for 12 consecutive hits when he got hit by pitch doesn’t that automatically end the streak.
Mark P
8:41
The HBP doesn't count as an at-bat
A plate appearance yes, an at-bat no
Cash Considerations
8:43
Jose Ramirez, HOF?
Mark P
8:44
My guess is probably yes, and he'll get extra benefit for staying with one franchise his entire career (assuming, of course, that he's a Guard for life)

8:44
If you're Scott Harris, what's the one thing you have to do or not do at the trade deadline?
Mark P
8:45
Moving Flaherty seems obvious, and while the Tigers have a clearer need for hitting than pitching, they're probably still in the mode of just getting as much talent as possible in any given transaction.  If Team A is offering a better pitching prospect than Team B's offer of a good hitting prospect, the Tigers should go with Team A

Am I going all in on buying or do I got the Bassit, Eovaldi , etc.... rental route or do I sell though  my team is overachievers?overachiever?
Mark P
8:48
Boston should absolutely be looking to buy right now, and adding a veteran arm to the rotation seems like a logical call.  Not that the luxury tax should be any obstacle for ownership, but the Sox are around $19MM under the tax line, so they have flexibility to spend and add salary in the right situation.

Bassitt, btw, is not a rental.  He's signed through 2025

Bryce Miller to the O's for Mayo & Kjerstad.  Solves so problems for both.  Who says no?
Mark P
8:49
The Orioles say no.  Miller for a prospect package including one of Mayo/Kjerstad seems feasible....not both
Friar Faithful

Seems like the biggest need for San Diego is bullpen help. Aside from Suarez/Estrada, everyone else is coughing up runs left and right. Is there anyone out there the Padres could "afford" at the deadline?
