Brandon thanks for taking the time to chat with us! What was your favorite memory in the bigs and why?
Brandon Beachy
10:01
Thats a tough one. There were so many incredible memories. The debut, Bobby's last home stand, Chipper's send off and HR's down the stretch to name a few

Hi BB!  You were born in Kokomo Indiana.  Are you sick and tired of that Beach Boys song?
Brandon Beachy
10:03
You know, not as many people make that connection as you'd think. Great song though
10:06
Chipper was pretty great. When i debuted in 2010 he had already had a season ending knee surgery. I started twice on road before coming back to ATL and meeting him. Upon introduction he asked me if i had a few minutes later to hear his notes from watching my first two starts. I was blown away. Of course i took him up on that and gave me an open invite to sit in on him talking hitting with other guys. I took him up on that many times over next few years and he was always so gracious to include me in those and even tailor some of the convos to what it should mean for me.

What kind of teammate was Chipper Jones?
Taylor Trojan
10:06
Brandon, Taylor U alum here. What’s your favorite memory about Marion, IN?! Loved following your career!
Brandon Beachy
10:07
Well my favorite memory is definitely not giving up 7 consecutive hits and not recordning an out to blow a save against Taylor in conference tournament!

How much did you enjoy pitching for the Braves in 2013? They looked like a legit contender for a title.
Brandon Beachy
10:09
That was a great team. I wish i would have been healthier and contributed more. Had a real chance to win it all that year with the offensive firepower.

When did you realize you could hang with the pros?
Brandon Beachy
10:11
That probably came in AA. They moved me to the rotation to get me more innings and something kind of clicked. Getting great results against guys that were top prospects made me feel like i had  real shot at someday reaching the bigs for the firstt time

How did you like pitching for the Braves? How were the fans to you?
Brandon Beachy
10:12
I truly loved it. The fans were always awesome to me. I will always only have the fondest memories of playing there.

Brandon, it is great to seeing you chatting here. I remember reading a Baseball America article about 7 or 8 years ago about pitchers and which side of the rubber they pitch from. I recall you being mentioned in that article. Seems like a hotly contested and debated in baseball but perhaps has died down some with modern analytics/pitch design. Could you walk us through your process when you changed sides on the side of the pitching rubber? Who's idea was it? What were the advantages and disadvantages of it? Do you think it ended up hurting your arm? Would you recommend pitchers going to the "non traditional side of the rubber" ( e.g. 1B side for a RHP) or not? Case by case basis? Curious for any and all of your thoughts on the topic!

This is a good question. Roger McDowell suggested the switch for me. It did help me get to the outside corner easier. I don't think this contributed to my injuries at all. in retrospect i think it was more of a bandaid to the real issue, being too quad dominant and having a hard time staying closed. I don't think the side of the rubber will matter, just preference if the mechanics are sound.

Hey Brandon, longtime Braves fan and huge fan of yours.  What made Bobby Cox so lovable with players.  Like, beyond any other manager it seems.
Brandon Beachy
10:18
I brought a cup of water to Bobby at instructs in 09 i think because another player was too nervous to after being prompted by a coach. He thanked me and called me by name. Blew me away. Then a year later when i got called up he had a way of making me feel at ease. How could i not be confident in myself if HE was confident in me?

Knowing you are a film fan, what are your top 3 movies of all time and favorite baseball movie?
Brandon Beachy
10:20
My movie watching has tanked since having kids. But Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been my favorite I've seen in a long time. Favorite baseball movie is tough. Sandlot as a kid and now I'd say eight men out

hi brandon, as an undraftee, did you have to work extra side hustles to make end's meet in the minors? When did you actually "make it" from a personal finance perspective?
Brandon Beachy
10:22
Of course. I worked during offseasons for sure. I didn't do anything during the seasons but lets just say i lived off of a lot of $5 footlongs in those days.
Hello Dean
10:22
My Dartmouth colleagues I are impressed with your consulting work! What's it been like since making the switch from baseball?
Brandon Beachy
10:26
It's been a huge adjustment. But getting into business and opening Koala Insulation of Nashville has been great. I really dove in and worked the whole business to learn it ground up. Had to do that so I could effectively build a team and train them. That part has been the most fun. Building a fun atmosphere for my employees is about as close to a locker room as it'll get these days.

How was pitching in the independent leagues with the Long Island Ducks?
Brandon Beachy
10:28
I enjoyed it. Very different than the big leagues obviously. They had the automated strike zone. I thought i would hate it, but i learned to pitch to it. Was good for me as a vertical pitcher. The competition was good at top but a big drop off by bottom of order.
Justin
10:29
I can't imagine a locker room with Huddy, Moylan, Medlen, Rossy, McCann, etc.  Do you have a funniest teammate ever? Having a group like that must have made going to work easier.
Brandon Beachy
10:30
Moylan, Medlen and McCann are spot on. THrow O'Flaherty in there too. It was a blast!

What was your favorite pre game meal during your time in the majors?
Brandon Beachy
10:31
I don't remember why or when but at some point I started having a pb&j with banana a couple hours before game on my start days

What went into your decision to sign after not being drafted? Was it tough knowing that the odds were definitely against you?
Brandon Beachy
10:32
We had a player drafted off my team in 14th round as a senior, my junior year. He signed for $1,000 and was way better than me. When an offer was presented to cover my last year of school and some cash...i had no choice but to take it.

Good morning! Thanks for doing the chat. Is that a Big Mac jersey in your pic ?
Brandon Beachy
10:33
It is! One of my 3 favorites growing up, along with Barry Larkin and Frank Thomas. Was really cool being with dodgers his last year there as hitting coach.
Orioles
10:34
Who is a young pitcher in the bigs now you are most impressed with?
Brandon Beachy
10:35
Dylan Cease. I knew Dylan from time he was drafted. Seeing his raw tools develop into and elite elite guy is awesome. Great kid
JC
10:35
Do you have any regrets of the path you took? Is there anything you would've done different?
Brandon Beachy
10:37
Of course. I wish i would have had different resources or done different things to change my mechanics, rehab, etc. But honestly at those points in time, really smart people believed i was doing the right things and it would have been really tough to do much differently in the moment.

God rest his soul.  Tommy Hanson was so damn good, I remember being happy when we didn't trade him for Peavy.  I remember chatting with him for a minute before a Mets game, and he seemed very quiet and reserved.  Literally the opposite of Meds.  Got any fun stories about Tommy or insight as to how he was off the field?  Thanks!
