Why are people criticising Portland for holding out on dame. They’re in rebuild and don’t need him or anyone else to replace this season really, isn’t it a good call to wait as long as possible to get a deal worth the player and not a poor offer because dame is trying to force their hand to Miami?
Dana Gauruder
1:03
Absolutely. There is no rush to trade him. They don't have to trade him. It could end like KD's situation last offseason. Nets didn't get a suitable offer for him and KD came back. Then they got a strong package for him at the trade deadline with a team looking to go all the way (Suns). That being said, I still think Portland will make a deal before the season starts, rather than having this thing linger into training camp.

With Lillard and possibly Mitchell on the trade market, will the NYK make a run at any of them?
Dana Gauruder
1:05
I am skeptical the Cavs will give up Mitchell that quickly, but stranger things have happened in NBA. I don't see Lillard as a great fit in NY with Brunson there. More likely, they'd go after a wing or big man (LaVine, Towns). But I doubt the Knicks will make a big move now. I think their long-range hope is that things eventually fall apart in Philly and they trade for Embiid.

What do you think are the top 10 teams in the East when it comes to W/L records this coming season?
Dana Gauruder
1:07
I think it would be easier to answer by saying which 5 won't make at least the play-in. Wizards, Pistons, Hornets, Bulls, Raptors.

Nikola Jovic or Jaime Jacquez, w/c player is most likely part of the package for a Lillard trade to Miami
Dana Gauruder
1:09
Tough to say. More of a product of which player the Blazers value more. I'd say Jovic but that's a close call.

Do you see bull or Toronto to blow it up and lean into rebuilds? Bulls are crying out for a tear down and start again. They have plenty of assets to go pick/young player chasing. And Raptors have Barnes, so could tear all down and make him the key building block, while getting a ransom of assets for Pascal and OG. If not both which do you think would be the most likely?
Dana Gauruder
1:13
Neither one seems inclined to do it at the moment. Chicago re-signed Vuc, signaling they're not leaning toward a rebuild. Toronto hasn't dealt either of those forwards yet and don't seem close to doing so. The Raptors also re-signed Poeltl and signed Schroder as a stopgap when FVV got crazy money from Rockets. Both franchises are prime candidates to rebuild if things don't go well first half of next season. I'd be inclined to say the Bulls are more likely but it's a close call.

If the Raptors decided to blow it up at the trade deadline, would a Siakam for CP3, Moody, Kuminga & picks makes sense?
Dana Gauruder
1:17
If they were inclined to move Siakam -- he's on an expiring contract -- they'd probably want as many picks as possible. The above-mentioned one would probably be one they'd consider (Paul's contract for 2024/25 is non-guaranteed), depending on what picks they'd get back. Golden State would have to feel that Siakam could be the missing piece for a title to do that and I don't know how he'd fit alongside DG.

Do you believe that Evan Fournier believes that he would receive substantially more playing time with another team if he is traded?  What is the lowest amount that you believe that he could possibly request for a buyout of his $18.857 million that the Knicks would be willing to accept in order for him to pursue other options, including overseas?
Dana Gauruder
1:20
Fournier would probably be bought out whether he stays or gets traded. He doesn't have a lot of incentive to give back more than the equivalent of a veteran's minimum, so he'd be looking to keep at least $16 mill and hope he gets picked up when he clears waivers.

What is the best & worst case scenarios for the Hornets this season?
Dana Gauruder
1:23
If the Hornets made the play-in tournament, that would be an accomplishment. It's not entirely out of the question but Ball would have to play a minimum of 60 games, Bridges would have to play like he did two seasons ago and Miller would need to have a stellar rookie season. They'll be in a better position to upgrade once Hayward's contract comes off the books.

What is the team's incentive for the in-season tournament?  I know that players receive extra cash.  Why should a team/coach treat these games any different from another regular season game?  How about guaranteed home court advantage throughout the playoff (except for the finals) for the tournament winner?
Dana Gauruder
1:27
I answered a similar question in the past week or two. I am skeptical the in-season tournament will produce the desired results the league is seeking. The NFL will be in the homestretch of their season and these guys make so much money, I doubt the monetary incentives will make that much of a difference. I think the tournament will be around for awhile and they'll make tweaks in the fture to encourage competition. The home court advantage in the playoffs would be a nice perk.

Spencer Dinwiddie and Ben Simmons only played together in 4 total games last season, with Dinwiddie starting all 4 games, while Simmons came off the bench for all 4 games.  In your opinion, what position and/or role do you believe Ben Simmons should play in order to contribute most effectively?
Dana Gauruder
1:33
Probably power forward, at least from a defensive standpoint, if they're on the court together. They could share ballhandling duties offensively. Given Simmons' injury history the last couple of years, he'd probably be better off in a second unit role playing 20-25 minutes a game.
Coach O-K
1:33
Which team(s) in the NBA would most likely to let go of their head coach regardless of any circumstances this season? Steve Clifford? Joe Mazzulla? Thibs? Billups? Jason Kidd?
Dana Gauruder
1:36
If the Mavs don't get off to a good start, Kidd would be on thin ice. The Celtics would have to get off to a really slow start for Mazzulla to get fired. Thibodeau should be safe after the Knicks' improvement last season. Clifford should be OK, as the Hornets don't have high expectations. Chauncey will likely be overseeing a rebuilding project if Lillard is dealt.

Who do you think will be the starting five for the Lakers this season? I'm hearing some rumbles that they want to have Anthony Davis go back to the the four position
Dana Gauruder
1:38
Doubt it. I think Hachimura or Vanderbilt will start alongside James and Davis in the frontcourt. Reaves and Russell in the backcourt but Vincent will get plenty of PT.
KJ
1:39
In your opinion who's going to make a trade before training camp Orlando or Detroit? I think Detroit has a front Court Log Jam and conversely Orlando has a guard log Jam
Dana Gauruder
1:43
Detroit. The Pistons committed to Stewart financially and they also have Bagley/Livers at PF. Duren/Wiseman at center. Plus several candidates at SF -- Bogie, Harris, Thompson. Didn't understand Magic's draft strategy, so I'm not quite sure what to make of their guard logjam.
KJ
1:43
So is Victor a shoe in for rookie or the year or could there be some other contenders? I'm thinking if game is moved and scoop starts right away he's going to have some pretty impressive numbers and conversely I think Chet could have a pretty good rookie year as well
Dana Gauruder
1:44
Unless VW misses a chunk of time due to an injury, he's the runaway favorite to take that prize. Another rookie would have to put up really big numbers to challenge.

1:45
Once Morant gets back from suspension what do you think Memphis will do for the three spot? Are they going to move Bain to the three and start Marcus Smart does Zaire William get some consideration what do you think they'll do
Dana Gauruder
1:48
Smart has started regularly in recent seasons, so moving Bane to SF would likely be the approach they'll take. Now, if Williams or another player excels at the wing during Morant's absence, then maybe you'd consider Smart as your sixth man. Regardless, I think those 3 guys will be on court during crunch time.
Please answer
1:49
Who do you think OKC actually keeps on the roster for the last few spots?
Dana Gauruder
1:53
I'll answer that in reverse. I don't see where Victor Oladipo, Davis Bertans and Usman Garuba fit in. They were picked up on salary dumps. Of the holdovers, i think Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is vulnerable. But as you know, Presti could always have another deal or two brewing.

What is the Heats back up plan?  This Dame situation is getting ridiculous.  I mean, is it Dame or bust?  The season is not too far away.
Dana Gauruder
1:55
I think the backup plan is just to go with what they've got. Maybe they'd pick up another PG for insurance, given Lowry's injury history. But I think the Lillard trade will eventually come to fruition.
Clint Capela
1:56
How likely is it that Atlanta trades Clint Capela and installs Okongwu at Center?   Feels like a deal that needs to be made to help stretch the floor some so Young and Murray can go to the hole and then dish it out to an open shooter
Dana Gauruder
1:57
The Mavs were reportedly interested in Capela, so if he's dealt, that's probably where he'd wind up. Camps don't open for another 2 months, so plenty of time for something to happen on that front.

When will the harden deal get done?
Dana Gauruder
1:59
The Sixers are not inclined to give him an extension, so I doubt Harden will change his mind. We saw what happened when he wanted to get traded away from the Rockets. Came to camp out of shape and eventually got dealt. As pointed out above, camps don't open for another 2 months. Plenty of time for that deal to go down.

Is Christian Wood holding out for more money or a sign and trade deal?
Dana Gauruder
2:00
Given there hasn't been any buzz about a team clamoring for his services, I think he'd be happy if he could get a mid-level contract somewhere.
