How have the hornets looked too u so far?
Dana Gauruder
12:02
Improved. More talent up front with Bridges and Miller up front and having the luxury of bringing Washington off the bench. But they need Ball to make a run at a play-in spot. That's the big question -- how much time will he miss?
Bojan Bogdanović
12:02
If you are Portland, would you hold off trading Malcolm Brogdon until the trade deadline in order to get the best possible offer and risk him getting injured or do you take a more cautious approach and take a deal that you find acceptable? Or do you hold on to him with his $22.5 million contract for 2024/2025 and revisit the situation in the offseason or the 2025 trade deadline?
Dana Gauruder
12:05
I figure they're better off waiting, simply because there isn't a whole lot of activity until we get closer to the deadline. The play-in tournament has created more buyers and Brogdon could be a valuable piece for a team that's thin in the backcourt. Injury risk is there for every player -- also realize that his contract could have as much, or more value in offseason since he'll then be on an expiring deal.

Do you believe Memphis will enter the 2024/2025 season above the luxury tax threshold?
Dana Gauruder
12:07
No. I think they'll do everything in their power to shave salary. You'll only be a tax team if you have a real shot at contending. They'd have to go on quite a run when Morant comes back just to get into the playoff picture.

Do you have any recommendations and/or suggestions for Quin Snyder?  Do you believe the Hawk's roster construction is basically a .500 team?  And if that is the case, do you have any recommendations and/or suggestions for Landry Fields?
Dana Gauruder
12:10
I don't necessarily think they're a .500 team or below it. But I don't think they're a serious contender as presently constructed. Other than trading Murray or Young, I don't see how they could make an impactful deal. They owe more picks than they have coming in.

Ho ho ho. Do the (three) Kings need another impact player to make them a contender, or is time (or thyme, or frankincense, etc.) and continuing to gel the solution for this group? The talent is there, but there are no rooms left at the inn during big games, it seems.
Dana Gauruder
12:14
I could see them swinging for the fences and making a play for another impact player. They have enough salaries to cobble up for a star level talent. But I think we have to wait and see who will be sellers toward the deadline to determine who might be available.

As a Wizards fan I look at the situation in Detroit and think there would be some sense for both sides around a trade centered around Kuzma for Weisman and Ivey. Obviously there would be more players and picks required. Washington needs high upside players and Detroit perhaps has too many of those and not enough veteran leadership. I also think the early play of Sasser and Thompson makes Ivey more tradeable.  Any possibility?
Dana Gauruder
12:17
I'm sure the Pistons would have no problem shedding Wiseman. Duren is their starting center and they're not going pay Wiseman to stick around as his backup. I don't think the Pistons are ready to give up on Ivey that quickly. They were touting Ivey and Cade as their starting backcourt longterm prior to the season. Perhaps with Bojan back Monty will give that a longer look. I do think that would be a nice deal for the Wizards.

Any chance Jonathan Isaac is still on the Orlando Magic on 01/10/2024?
Dana Gauruder
12:20
A chance, yes. He has been in the rotation. But I understand the question -- that 16 mill contract becomes fully guaranteed at that point.

its good to see the small market teams doing so good. OKC Indy Orlando Minnesota. It’s also good for the NBA
Dana Gauruder
12:23
It's good for the NBA when a vast majority of the teams feel like they have a shot to make the playoffs and/or make a deep run. It's also good that many teams feel like they have a legit shot at the title. The teams you mentioned have made moves and good draft picks to get better.

Any possibility that both Banchero & Frans Wagner make the All Star tean this year or Mo Wagner wins 6th man of the year?
Dana Gauruder
12:25
Sure, if the Magic keep winning like they have, Banchero and F. Wagner will warrant serious consideration for All-Star selection. I think Mo would be a longshot candidate at sixth man award at this stage.
12:26
I started a topic for all of you to ponder and then address it toward the end. I'll make it a simple one -- which teams do you think will win tonight in the last 2 quarterfinals? Knicks-Bucks and Lakers-Suns.

12:27
Who’s more likely to win Coach of the Year? Chris Finch or Ime Udoka?
Dana Gauruder
12:28
Well, you don't win Coach of the Year after 20 games. I'd say Mosley and Udoka would be stronger candidates if their teams hang around in the play-in race, simply because those teams have been rebuilding.

Is Bruce Brown’s uptick real and enduring?
Dana Gauruder
12:31
He was terrific in the playoffs last year and he was the Pacers' top target in free agency. Brown has really improved offensively since he was drafted by the Pistons -- steady progression -- and he's playing on the highest scoring team in the league. But his contributions go far beyond whatever points he puts up.
Trade season kickoff
12:31
Do you think we see any moves shortly after Dec 15, or does pretty much everything get pushed close to deadline these days? Are there teams with say positional imbalances who could make a move without committing to it being their main move / direction, or will teams with tweakable issues mostly just tough it out for another month as they test rotations, wait out injuries, etc?
Dana Gauruder
12:32
Beyond December. If I am not mistaken, I don't think there have been any December trades in the last couple of years. More players become trade eligible but usually teams aren't motivated to make moves until they get closer to the trade deadline.

is the Haliburton/Sabonis trade one of the best win win trades in NBA history or still too early?
Dana Gauruder
12:35
I don't either side can complain, right? If you ask which team will benefit more in the long run, definitely Haliburton. He's become the face of that franchise. Sabonis isn't going to win any Defensive Player of the Year award -- some of the comments SVG made about Sabonis' "defense" last night were quite amusing -- but the guy is an offensive force, a potential triple-double every night. He was a huge upgrade to their frontcourt and was a key reason that the Kings ended their postseason drought.

last month I had predicted the Magic would win at least 45 games this year and finish in the top 6 in the East but you said that was too optomistic and it was possible they could make the paly in tournament. Do you still think 45 wins and a top 6 finish is too optomistic as the Magic asre 14-6 and doing this with 2 starters out for the last 3-4 weeks.
Dana Gauruder
12:38
They're certainly doing better than I and many others expected. Competition for those 6 spots will be fierce, though. Can't see Celtics or Bucks not getting 2 of those spots. Sixers, too, as long as Embiid and Maxey stay healthy. Then you've got the Pacers, Knicks, Cavs, Heat, etc. It would be quite an accomplishment for the Magic to beat out some of those teams and finish in top six.

Any chance of the heat pulling the trigger with DeRozan or LaVine sometime this season
Dana Gauruder
12:41
I could see it. It was telling that Woj said there's no market for LaVine right now. That huge contract, and the fact that he hasn't made the Bulls a big winner, has devalued him dramatically. Not to mention his knee issues. DeRozan would be a more reasonable alternative -- a rental who wouldn't cost as many pieces -- and you could determine whether you'd want to re-sign him.

Are the Clips really ready to move on from Westbrook?
Dana Gauruder
12:43
I didn't see anything regarding that. He's adjusting to the sixth man role, we'll see how that works out. But I don't see where Westbrook would go if he wanted out. And they're not going to waive him unless he becomes a locker room menace.

Ignoring Bulls whose assets have low/no value. Who do you expect to be the next AS or higher level guy to request a trade? I have a feeling if drama is still surrounding Ja he might ask for a “change of scenery” to try and rebuild his reputation, or with Zion’s recent comments and rumours they quietly testing the waters in the off, he might ask out.
Dana Gauruder
12:45
We'll have to see how things play out when Ja returns. Giving up on him would be a huge step for the Grizzliles to take. As for Zion, don't see that happening. The Pelicans look like a force if that core group can finally stay on the court. They looked pretty darn good last night.

OG is the perfect compliment to Maxey and Embiid right? Elite defensive wing who doesn't need the ball in his hands. Do the Sixers have enough assets to outbid the field / Raptors asking price?
Dana Gauruder
12:49
They have some draft assets, for sure. Are you adding him to the mix with Tobias or does Tobias and his expiring contract have to be part of the deal? That would be the big question that would have to be resolved. I do think Anunoby would be the type of player who could make them more dangerous in the postseason.

Should a trade involving Lavine to the Lakers involve Reeves as the center piece of a trade? They dont have much else to offer
Dana Gauruder
12:50
As I addressed earlier, LaVine's contract and lack of winning resume gives suitors pause. He's a prolific scorer but honestly, I'd rather keep Reeves.
Riley

At this point with no major targets, I am keeping Herro out of the rumor mill, right?
