Greetings all! Apologies for not getting the link out for advance questions this morning. Oversight on my part

If there were any update on Bautista’s injury that were good we would’ve heard it right now, correct?
Steve Adams

I think any kind of UCL injury in itself is beyond the scope of good news. I suppose you could hope for it being minor enough that they'll try to avoid rehab, or it being placed on the ligament such that they could do a primary repair/internal brace rather than a full Tommy John procedure, but it's pretty ominous. I don't take the few days of silence to be bad in and of itself, however. They're going to get multiple opinions one way or another, formulate a plan, etc. And that takes time.

The cards have expressed the need to get 3 SPs. Which 3 FAs do you see as a logical fit?
Steve Adams
1:03
I don't think all three will come from free agency, first and foremost. They have so many young position players on the 40-man, and it's impossible for them to get playing time for everyone. Trading Dylan Carlson, Ivan Herrera, Alec Burleson etc. could absolutely net them a starting pitcher.

I don't think the Cards will necessarily shop at the very top end of the SP market, but there are still some notable names (e.g. Sonny Gray, Michael Lorenzen) who we'll have in the second or third tier of earning power on our free-agent rankings but make sense in St. Louis.

Does David Ross lose his job if the Cubs miss the playoffs?
Steve Adams
1:03
Strongly doubt it

How did Mejia pass through waivers unclaimed? Seems like the catching carousel had been moving a lot.
Steve Adams
1:06
He's a poorly regarded defender with one season of decent offense (2021) who's earning $2.2MM and can't be optioned to Triple-A. I'm not all that surprised too see that no team wanted to take on the remainder of his salary. It's been a long time since he was a top prospect.

Does Verdugo get a similar deal to Benintendi’s next year? Maybe something in the 6/85 range?
Steve Adams
1:10
The Benintendi comp is a pretty decent one. I was writing that Verdugo has a bit more pop, but upon looking at it, they have identical ISOs (Benny from 2020-22, Verdugo from 2021-23). I still think Verdugo has been a bit more consistent in his modest power and could thus have a bit more earning power, but something in the vicinity of Benintendi's 5/75 isn't outlandish, assuming good health and relatively consistent production heading into Verdugo's free agency post-2024.

Odds Sonny stays a Twin in 24
Steve Adams
1:10
I expect him to reject a qualifying offer, and the Twins rarely play in his neck of the woods with regard to free agent pitchers.

What does a Pete Alonso extension look like? Would 7/$192.5M (just beating Freeman's $27M/AAV), get it done?
Steve Adams
1:13
I don't think so. I'd imagine it's north of $200MM by a decent ways. Freeman's deal started in his age-32 season. Alonso would be a free agent heading into his age-30 season. Freeman's the better player -- no disrespect to Polar Bear... Freddie is just awesome -- but age matters a lot in estimating these things.

Who would you rather keep, Jordan Carlson or Alec Burleson?
Steve Adams
1:13
I assume this is Jordan Walker, Dylan Carlson or Alec Burleson? Walker.

who do you think Steve, will win the world series
Steve Adams
1:14
I picked the Mariners prior to the season, so can't back away now that they're in first with about a month to play.
Estevan Florial
1:14
When do I get a real chance?  I'm raking in AAA.
Steve Adams
1:17
Probably when he signs with another team after becoming a minor league free agent. The Yankees have gone with Jake Bauers, Willie Calhoun, Billy McKinney, Greg Allen and just about everyone under the sun rather than give Florial a chance. It's clear they don't see him as a viable help.

And while Florial is hitting well in AAA, he's also striking out at a 30% clip in his third season there with his 26th birthday not far off. I'm not saying I'd have trotted Willie Calhoun out there over him for as long as they did, but I can see why the Yankees would think the production won't carry over.

Edwin Diaz. Does the Reward justify the Risk if he returns this year?
Steve Adams
1:20
I think they'll put him back on the mound whenever their doctors (and likely a third-party expert) agree that he's 100% ready to go. They won't put him out there this year even at 90%. If he's got the full clearance from multiple doctors, go ahead and do it this year and let him have a normal offseason, knowing he showed late in the year that he's capable and the injury is behind him

Cleveland's Trade Deadline "haul" is down to 2 minor leaguers, one being Manzardo, an injured LH 1B just like me. But I am making $3.5M with ARB3, ARB4 ahead...Am I now going to be traded this offseason ?
Steve Adams
1:22
Two years of control and due a raise on a $3.35MM salary, I don't think Naylor will be moved this winter. Maybe next deadline if Cleveland's out of it again, and maybe next offseason if not then. But he's not going to break the bank yet. This year's breakout has been impressive. And the Guardians' lineup generally needs more help, not to subtract affordable/controllable guys

Who do you think commands the top dollar amount for SP not named Ohtani this winter?

We just ran our Free Agent Power Rankings, which are based on earning power, a few days ago:

More directly: Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

1:25
Would it make sense for the Cards to take a chance on Syndergaard?
Steve Adams
1:25
I don't have much faith in a Syndergaard rebound at this point. Someone will do it, but he's just not the guy he was pre-surgery.

Have the Mariners suddenly become one of the scariest teams to face leading up to, and in, the playoffs?
Steve Adams
1:26
I always thought they were. I didn't pick them to win the division but picked them as a Wild Card team who I thought would be a short-series nightmare with Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert on the staff and a deep bullpen. Trading Sewald thinned out the 'pen a bit, but I think Andres Munoz is one of the best relievers on the planet, and the bullpen as a whole is still strong.
1:27
Add Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo to the playoff bullpen along with Brash (wildly underrated), Topa (underrated) and some of their  other arms and it's a tough opponent.
Pereira
1:28
They called me up with around a 30% strikeout rate.
