Good morning from Las Vegas. Russell Wilson was just out on the field doing some pregame throwing. Justin Fields will start again, but Wilson will be the backup for the first time this season.

I watched some all 22 footage. Pickens took a couple plays off last week and so did Broderick Jones. Hoping for a better effort from both today. Also, Zach Frazier gets a lot of love here and he might actually be better than advertised. He had 3 blocks on some plays.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:02
Frazier has been terrific. Everyone I talk to says the same thing.

Isn’t it time to open up the offense for Justin Fields?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:03
They did last week. Took shots on first down. He failed to connect.

When does Minkah have his next big play?  Minkah is kinda looking washed.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:05
I would not say washed, but the Steelers do need to get some big plays out of him. Other teams can control that with their play-calling. He's an All-Pro. I think they will come.
2:07
Justin Fields is on the field warming up now. Does he need his best game yet to keep the job?
Hillbilly
2:08
How long is Fields’ leash today, Ray?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:08
If they're behind at the half and they only have 3 points again then I'd say Tomlin would strongly consider going to Wilson. It will be a feel thing for sure, but I think it's short.

Speaking of Wilsons, Roman is among the first Steelers warming up. All signs pointing to him being active and making his NFL debut. Don't necessarily expect him to play a bunch of snaps right away, but it's a step.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:18
We'll have the inactives soon.
Hillbilly
2:21
Good news. Thanks, Brian. I’m sure they have a few plays that will target him.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:21
The Steelers sure could use something out of their WR corps in this game. But I'm looking to see if Arthur Smith gets Pickens involved early.
Brian Batko
2:22
TJ Watt just got a huge cheer from Steelers fans as he ran out of the tunnel. Probably gonna be more of them than Raiders fans here but we'll see.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:23
They're playing "The Autumn Wind is a Raider." One of my favorite NFL Films pieces.
Hillbilly
2:24
Nice. Almost gives me goosebumps
Brian Batko

We already know most of the inactives because they've been ruled out. QB3 Kyle Allen, RB Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee), OLB Alex Highsmith (groin), OLB Nick Herbig (hamstring). S Damontae Kazee (ankle). And then probably one of the O-linemen, likely Max Scharping.
Hillbilly

One thing I remember about Wilson from Michigan is that he is a very willing blocker
Ray Fittipaldo
2:26
The Steelers could use that.
2:28
Remember, a new QB for the Raiders today,. Aidan O'Connell in for Gardner Minshew. O'Connell played some games as a rookie last season.
2:29
First one to 50 in the Saints-Bucs game? They have it on the Jumbtron here. Crazy how many points are being scored in that game.
2:31
Tight ends are doing some pass sets on the field now. I think we'll see them stay in to help protect against Maxx Crosby today.
Hillbilly
2:37
I could see that Ray. Blocking Crosby with one man is almost as dumb as blocking TJ Watt with one man.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:39
No. 4 QB Kyle Allen (3rd QB)
No. 23 S Damontae Kazee
No. 51 LB Nick Herbig
No. 56 LB Alex Highsmith
No. 64 OG Max Scharping
No. 81 TE MyCole Pruitt
No. 84 RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson
2:40
The inactives are above
Hillbilly
2:41
Do you expect them to ease Jaylen Warren back into the game?  I like the way he hits the hole.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:42
No, he's healthy so he should have his typical role.
Hillbilly
2:43
That’s good news. He’s really good in past protection as well.

I would hope Pickens benched first quarter today for behavior and eye black. And if poor first half for Fields, bring in Wilson. I never thought Fields was the answer.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:52
Chris Boswell just nailed a 63-yarder in warmups on his final kick.

Raiders inactives include RB Zamir White and WR Jakobi Meyers, who was doubtful. And we knew they weren't gonna have Davante Adams. Their WR position is in even worse shape than the Steelers OLB unit. I'd say I follow the NFL and the draft closer than the vast majority of the population, but can't say I've ever heard of the likes of Alex Bachman and Kristian Wilkerson, both of whom will be among Aidan O'Connell's options in the pass game today.
Ray Fittipaldo
3:01
It's early but I see a lot of yellow in the stands among the fans who are seated early.
Hillbilly
3:03
I agree on both, Guest. Fields is effective in the red zone but the issue is that he’s not good on 3rd down so he doesn’t get to the red zone often enough.
Ray Fittipaldo
3:03
Yep. He has to be better and they need to get the run game going to help out a little early.
Hillbilly
3:07
Feed Warren
Ray Fittipaldo
3:08
He's their best home run hitter, best pass protector and best receiver out of the backfield so yes I agree.
KJ
3:09
For a team whose offensive identity is to be a running team, wouldn't you think the Steelers should be able to average more than 4 yards per carry? What is the likelihood the Steelers can better their yards per carry average today against the Raiders?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:10
They need to be. I think they need a few more big runs. Najee never seems to break a long gain. Warren can do that so we'll see how much Arthur Smith puts on his plate today.
KJ
3:12
The Steelers defense MUST step up today and carry the day.  This being said, how do you believe they will handle Aiden O'Connell and the Raiders passing attack?
