Happy Labor Day to all, as well as Happy September! Hope you're all in the hunt, and if not, still plugged in and/or prepping for next season. Thanks again for joining me; let's get to the Qs ...
Rick
12:06
Hey Brent, Gunnar is off to a nice start, Abrams has looked overmatched, and Oswald Peraza just got called up. How would you value them in Dynasty? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:06
For dynasty, not really looking at 2022 stats yet at all. With that in mind, I'd still want Abrams first, as still believe SB going to be a huge part of his game overall, and has the hit/power to be a 5-category guy. Gunnar not far behind; more power here than CJ and not a nothing in speed, but not quite the future fantasy impact. Like Peraza, too, but an easy third in the long-term. Would not be surprised if he gets moved in a deal at some point; consensus is that Volpe is the future NYY SS. That murkiness for Peraza (position wise) enough to ding him a bit. Good pop and speed, though, once he matures.

Should we assume most of Kirilloff's struggles were a result of his wrist problems or were there other worrisome signs? If his wrist issue has finally been fixed, do you still have high hopes for him?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Really wait and see for me. I thought the first surgery  (last offseason) should have fixed it; but became worried during the year when he indicated it was still bothering him. At that point, this year's shutdown/surgery was not a surprise. Shame, b/c I thought he was a bit underrated BA+Pwr guy coming to 2022. Now, will need to prove it to me next spring. Hopes are not quite as high.
Ron
12:11
Thanks for the all of your hard work, Brent.  Your Labor Day reward is our first place finishes.  Need to pick 2 for saves this week, is this order correct: Holmes, N. Martinez, Schreiber, and Neris?
Brent Hershey
12:11
Martinez/Schreiber a coin flip for me as CL2, but the bookends are correct. Might slightly lean towards Schreiber b/c BOS has no Hader lurking. Good luck in that first-place quest!
Rick
12:12
What happened to Winker? Struggles mostly a result of going to a new league or was he overrated as a hitter? Is he better than a replacement type player next year?
Brent Hershey
12:12
Better than replacement type player in 2023. Think it was combo of new league as well as park factors. Profile was so solid pre-22; I'll probably be snatching him up some in 2023. But will look forward to digging into the numbers/metrics on him come this offseason.
Waiting for Robert
12:15
Hi Brent: My weekly points league values HR (6 pts), RBI (3) and SB (3). Need to start 3 OF and 1 DH from Soto, Tucker, Nootbar, L. Robert, J. McCarthy, T. Taylor, and G. Sheets.

Which 4 would you start? Both Robert and Taylor worry me with playing time.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Soto, Tucker, McCarthy, Nootbar. Agree that tough to trust Robert right now. STL + HOU gave great hitting schedules this week. MIL also does, but TT been a production disappointment.

Happy Labor Day!
  1. cubs pen: wick or Hughes or stay away?
  2. ROS: waive Madrigal or even McMahon to FAAB Ozuna, Steer, Toglia or Bouchard?
Brent Hershey
12:17
  1. Slightly Hughes over stay away (assuming ROS)
  2. I want no part of Ozuna; prefer both Steer and Togila over Madrigal; likely keep McMahon due to 6 home games this week.

Hoping to turn in a Scoresheet NL only playoff lineup today (their server has been down since yesterday afternoon).  I've had Betts at the top of the batting order all year...wondering if I should do something different for the playoffs.  I have (in no particular order) Betts, Harper, Goldie, Machado, Lindor, Winker,Profar, Muncy, Carson Kelly/Nola/Caratini.  Should I keep Betts there or do you see a better option (and then where would Betts go?)
Brent Hershey
12:22
Filed my own SS playoff lineups just before starting this! Guess you could flip Bryce and Betts; try to squeeze some more runs out of that ~50 points of OBP. But probably picking nits. That top 5 should bang some runs in whatever order you put em.

12:25
What has happened to Bryan Reynolds? Going through a typical cold spell or has he packed it in for the season. Time to drop for someone like G Sheets or hold for the playoffs?
Brent Hershey
12:25
Disappointing year for sure; thought he'd be much more consistent. I don't buy the 'packed it in' argument; would still prefer him over Sheets. I think I'd hold.

12:29
bubba.. mlb regular? Duran or munoz to close in 2023?  and is bello figuring it out as he goes? thank you
Brent Hershey
12:29
A) From this vantage point, not convinced on BubbaT just yet. Doing what he has to right now, but Tex long out of it. I'll be interested to see how TEX approaches the offseason -- what/who they would bring in to compete with him for an OF spot. Still have questions about whether he's able to make enough and quality contact.
B) Probably prefer Muñoz, though both orgs handling of bullpens are not fantasy-friendly
C) Yes, it seems that way. ROS a key here; to see if he can sustain.

Thank you Brent for the chat on Labor Day. Your thoughts on Ke'Bryan Hayes as a keeper 3B, 10 tm, roto keeper. Once again thank you for all your hard work!
Brent Hershey
12:30
Don't think he's 10-tm keeper material just yet. Still believe in him long-term ... but in a league that shallow, I'd want more assurances than I'm ready to give Hayes right now. Plus, I think his draft value will be depressed in 2023 due to the 'meh' stats here in 2022.

12:32
this is more a technical question. watching holmes pitch his sinker seems to be going east to west vs north to south. is this a fixable problem?
Brent Hershey
12:32
Not sure it is a problem; 2-seamers (sinkers) that move horizontally are also incredibly effective (missing the barrel and/or missing bats entirely). Not going to question that Holmes has some stuff to work on after the mid-season slump; just not sure that sinker shape is it.

12:36
CJ Abrams and Torkelson:  Given their 2022 performances, how concerned are you for 2023 and beyond?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Abrams: not at all, as I mentioned in the first question today. Crazy young w/o much minors experience; fantasy wise (wheels, esp) I think the future remains bright, and unlike someone like BubbaT, there's more proven hit tool/power here. Trade to WAS a good thing, where they can just start him at SS in a less pressurized situation.
Tork: not zero concern, but still like him long-term. Would have wished he'd crushed it at AAA after demotion, but the solid approach; hit + power pedigree was too well-rounded for us to give up on that now. An improved September would not surprise me at all.

12:39
Thanks for doing this on a holiday! I'm 2nd in a 12 team 5x5. Runs, rbi, & hr are my opportunities. Currently have T. Pham in OF, and a recently worthless L. Robert on the bench. I am looking at the surges by M. Taylor, L. Thomas, G. Sheets, TJ Freidl, & B. Nimmo. Any moves to make here? Thanks and enjoy your Labor Day!
Brent Hershey
12:39
I'd stay the course with Pham/Robert in this case. Just not sure I believe those surgers will continue. I you HAVE to pick one, would lean Freidl or M. Taylor.

12:44
Happy Labor Day Brent. What's the story with Merrifield? Why  has Toronto decided to put him in a 3 way timeshare for playing time.
Brent Hershey
12:44
Yeah, super disappointing and unexpected turn. Has not even received a 15-AB week since the trade. Not sure I have the answer for you; I like him tons better than Espinal for sure. Think you probably have to still stick with him; any sort of injury and he'd get more time somewhere. But tough to swallow fantasy wise at this point in the season.

12:45
In first place but a 3-team race is headed to the wire, deep NL only league. Lost Rainey, Bednar, and Showalter keeps pitching Diaz in the 8th. One save may make a big difference. Hunter Harvey is a FA. Good lord, help me. Does he have a shot at it?
Brent Hershey
12:45
I've long been a Hunter apologist, so .... Nah, can't do it. Gotta be other, better long shots.
Bob
12:47
Do you think Franco, Buxton and/or Pasquantino will be productive yet this year?
Brent Hershey
12:47
Each has explosive skill set that could ignite even in small samples. I don't consider any of them out for the year, so yes, I think any three (or two) of them could still be fantasy relevant. Good question to ask, though, this time of year. And keep asking as the weeks of the season dwindle.

H2H points league and we start 1 RP, saves drive the points - this week and ROS who do you like, Bard or Doval
Brent Hershey
12:47
This week: Doval, b/c COL at home. ROS: probably Bard, though it's close.
Ron
12:50
I need advice on starting Drury in a weekly league, Brent. I am worried about the lingering head issues. My other choices at 2B are (Grissom (only 5 games), Kemp, Harrison, Fletcher,  B. Donovan, or Steer.  Looking to gain ground in a points league, so good AB are key.
Brent Hershey
12:50
I'd only consider Grissom or Steer. Obv both have huge downsides, too (Grissom=games; Steer=inexperience). Though Steer has a rep for good AB, and why I've added him in a couple places this week.
Dalton
12:51
H2H points league, R, RBI and SB are valued the same and need to choose from this pool of 3 for 2 slots this week: McCutchen, Kwan, McMahon
