Good noon (on the East), chatters! Down the stretch we come ... good to have you all here. Let's hit it and keep grinding...
Ron
12:05
Hi Brent, I am making up ground again, thanks to you and HQ.  Need two guys for Saves only: pick Holmes and Seranthony over Barnes, Schreiber, N. Martinez, Floro, B. Hughes and Nerris?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Yep; you're on the right track here. Definitely the two best pitchers. Just hope the roles continue.
Eddie
12:08
In a keeper league, is it worth holding onto Freddy Peralta, or is he injured too much? Do you believe Joe Ryan is a keeper?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Peralta - yes, b/c we've seen the upside when he's on the field.
Ryan - this one is really league-dependent for me. Best I can say is that I expect a #3 MLB future type guy; not the same ceiling, for instance, as Peralta. In some deeper leagues, where he's your #3 or #4 fantasy starter? Yep. But in like most 12-team leagues, would think there are better options and/or he's easily redrafted.

Good morning Brent-Two quick rapid fire questions both AL related around best keepers for next year. This is a 5x5 auction keeper league and I would like your opinion on keeping 2 of the following 3 players OF Bubba Thompson ($10 first year) OF Ramon Laureano ($16 First year) or P Hunter Brown ($10 first year) ? Second question-Can Matt Barnes be part of a closer committee in Boston next year? He is pitching very well recently after a horrible first half. 2.45 era and 15:6 K:BB and up to 5 saves? Thanks for all the help this year-
Brent Hershey
12:13
Keep the keeper Qs coming!
1) Assuming 260 cap, I'd lean towards the outfielders right now. BUT ... for Bubba/Brown specifically, these last three + weeks are important part of next year's equation. Have some doubts on BT's hit/on base tool, which directly affects his main asset (SB). And I know a lot of smart folks that still question Brown's ability to throw strikes -- though this was not a problem at all in start #1. So I'd be watching those things last 3 weeks to help inform your decision. And, at 16, don't feel like RL is a super value
2) Yes, he COULD be; he's under contract and is pitching better of late. Do you keep a possible committee member, though? That's the question. Would not surprise at all if BOS goes out and signs a CL off the FA market.

Was it wrong to drop Joe Musgrove for Nick Lodolo for the playoffs?
Brent Hershey
12:16
Sheesh. Bold? Yes. Wrong? I dunno. I've become a huge Lolodo fan, though don't have him rostered anywhere. I DO have a bunch of Musgrove, and so totally understand the 2H frustration with him; he seems to be falling apart recently for no apparent reason. I likely would NOT have done this ... (IE, had the guts to pull this) but can totally understand the move. I'd be really interested to hear how this turns out. Good luck in said playoffs!

good morning Brent, NL ONLY. please rank rest of season only.... call, toglia, marsh , sosa.  all categoreies important SB's a big plus.
Brent Hershey
12:19
Marsh, Toglia, Call, Sosa. Seen a lot of Marsh since the trade; work with hitting coach Kevin Long seems to be paying off; COL also seems to be giving Toglia some run (though he's not likely to get many bags). Don't think the other two play enough to matter.

Hi Brent!  My two week finals starting today.  Roll with TJ Friedl and all those games or Vinnie Pasquntino in a league with OBP?  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:20
Close; think I'd probably lean Friedl.

Hi Brent, thanks for continuing these chats to the bitter end. in 5x5 AL-only league. My question: Is there any hope for Merrifield for the ROS? Needing AB and playing time in the stretch run, but also needing SB, I'm guessing that he should be cut and replaced, right?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Only thing bitter is TOR's non-use of Whit. Would sure seem like Gurriel injury would open up more time for him, but ... he's averaged less than 10 AB/wk over the past four. I just don't understand it. The problem is, in an AL-only, are you finding anything better on the wire? If so, do it. Otherwise I think you just hold.

Hi Brent.  Playoff time!  Weekly points league head to head.  I need to pick two of these four to start.  Ryne Nelson (two starts but tough matchups), Brandon Woodruff, Brady Singer, or Miles Mikolas.  Your advice is appreciated.  Thank you for doing these!
Brent Hershey
12:28
Don't think I can trust Nelson in this case. Woodruff for sure, our numbers have MM>>>>Singer. Good luck!

Is Tanner Scott now droppable as it appears that Dylan Floro has reclaimed Marlins closer gig?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Yes, seems that way given Scott's usage patterns. Hope you got some Svs there during that mini-run!

H2H points league, R, RBI, and SB all valued the same and need to choose between McCarthy and Canha for my OF slot
Brent Hershey
12:32
The heater McCarthy has been on is bit unreal; but he tore up AAA, a bit of a pedigree, and that ARI offense is sneakily better now. NYM have a VG schedule this week, but I couldn't sit McCarthy for Canha at this point.

12:34
Thanks for all you guys do - these chats are unbelievably helpful. H2H points league and looking at matchups this week: C - Smith or Kirk, SS - Adames or Andrus
Brent Hershey
12:34
Of course; these are fun and I'm glad they're of use. Big Will Smith fan, but Kirk has 8 G and TOR has a great schedule. I'd lean Adames over Andrus, though Elvis' resurgence in Chicago has been a great story.

Hi Brent. Have a bye this week in 5X5 H2H league. Dropped a slumping Jon Bert (hip still sore?) for Drew Smyly, who looks to be lined up to face Miami and Pittsburgh next week. My best options were Smyly or Detmers, who seems to have to havetougher matchups next week (vs Texas, at Minnesota) and may be pushing up against an innings limit.
Sorry, hit send by mistake. Would you prefer Smyly (at MIA, at PIT) or Detmers (vs SEA, at MIN) for next week?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Seems like some debate on whether Smyly will get a two-step next week (RotoWire has him projected to pitch next Wed at MIA). Like Detmers' skills better, though hear ya on the shutdown possibility. From here, think I'd still prefer Detmers.

When the season began (NL, 5x5), I'd never heard of either Bailey Falter or Ryne Nelson.  Now I have the option to keep one for a mere pittance in 2023.  My ouija board is in the shop for repairs - what does yours say?
Brent Hershey
12:42
For 2023 ... hmmm. Falter is closer to a 2023 rotation job, given his improvements recently and likely the room at the back end of PHI rotation (Eflin, Gibson are FAs). Nelson probably has the higher long-term upside, though all we've got is one MLB game from him. Slight lean towards Nelson, though could make the argument for Falter. Good luck w/ your board.

Thank you for all your help. keep reading about bubba t cant do this cant do tas an ex college coach we say get me the athlete we will teach him the game. a 24 year old freakish athlete. im saying metrics maybe eye test give him time. your thoughts?hat.
Brent Hershey
12:46
No question on his athleticism; but do we expect MLB coaches to 'teach him the game' or should that have happened already? At 24, not necessarily young. That's what gives me some pause in terms of projecting his fantasy utility going forward. But yes, freakish athlete is what has me watching him closely during this final stretch -- both with my eyes and the numbers. Hope he makes it.
Eddie
12:48
Is Hunter Brown better than Hunter Greene?
Brent Hershey
12:48
Kinda broad; and not quite fair given MLB exposure. Was super pleasantly surprised w/ Brown's debut; totally looked the part. But right now, I'd still prefer Greene on my fantasy roster.

Seranthony, Fairbanks, Herget

H2H points redraft league - Jose Suarez or Lodolo for ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:51
Lododo ... though Suarez's changes has me rethinking his future value

12:54
Have to thin out my bench bats for some IL activations during bye week (H2H 5x5 OBP). Please rank these potential drops: Raleigh (starting Kirk), J. Rojas, Vinnie P., Adames, Walker.
Brent Hershey
12:54
In order of who I'd drop first: Raleigh / Adames / ...gap... / Vinny / Rojas / Walker. Tough drops.
Eddie
12:55
Sorry for being broad.  It was more about wordplay. Two hunters, two colors!
Brent Hershey

Ha! Me, taking things too seriously again... :-)
