Happy final two weeks of the season! Seems crazy that we're here already. Hopefully you still have reason to check the boxscores and live standings. Hope I can give a bit of direction here for those in tight races and/or playoffs ... but also remember that stats, starts, etc are extremely volatile in this portion of the season. Remember to have fun with it ... Let's jump into the questions ...

Brent, do you think Judge has anything left rest of the year? Not doing well since activated. Thank you.
Brent Hershey
12:04
Yeah, case #1 of the above. He's gotta be rusty; but if you've held him all year, I think you just have to put him in there and hope he's getting right for the MLB playoffs, and that it will click soon. Gotta go track record on this one.

Hi Brent- thanks again for another great season of chats! H2H points playoffs are here.  DeLauter or Canzone?  CLE has the better rating.  Slightly worried about injury risk.  Even though Canz has 3 games in COL, would you stick with DeLauter?  Also, 2 start Kade Anderson or 1 start Sheehan?
Brent Hershey
12:07
I would give Coors the edge in this one, play the opponent and setting.

And I'd stick with Sheehan; just further along in his process than Anderson. Good luck!

Picked up Bobby Miller thinking he might be worth a stash for next year. A little disappointed he has only made one appearance for the Dodgers so far. Keep holding or look for other options?
Brent Hershey
12:08
Look for other options. There's no reason at this point that you're gaining much by keeping. He should be cheap next spring if you still want to take that flyer.

Brent - I just want to thank you for these chats. You have been a great help and I really appreciate you.

Last question for the year - I guess!: NL 10 team 5x5 - I can finish in 2nd-6th! Pitching is tough and these guys are on the FAAB wire for some reason: Manaea, ZThornton, C Mize, Ashby and D Petersen. Any of these fine fellows look likely to get some wins and Ks?

On the hitting side, we have A Ortiz, L Campusano and the new SF hitter - Bandura -- I could use BA

And all of these guys might be able to be bought at keeper prices for next year.
Brent Hershey
12:13
I appreciate that, Beano. This is always a fun hour.

I might give Peterson a shot; you also never know with Ashby; esp if MIL is aiming to get SPs lined up for playoffs. Maybe AA sneaks in as a follower and grabs a win.

Would def prioritize Campusano if you need BA. The other two are more risky for me. And he would have a chance to be a 2027 keeper, I'd think - either on SD or somewhere else.

Final week and playing for the title.  Final roster spot:  Please rank DePaulo (Dodgers), Moniak (6 RHP, all games at Coors) and Dom Canzone (3 Coors games).  Thanks for all the help this season!
Brent Hershey
12:16
I'd rank them Moniak, Canzone, De Paula. What a great swing by De Paula yesterday, but the other two are better percentage plays (h/t to Walker Jenkins, reminding us of what can be w/ even mega prospects)

Hi Brent.  H2H 10 team points league.  Would you start Taj Bradley vs LAA or Brian Woo @ COL this week? Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:17
I'm starting Woo, but it's closer than I immediately realized.

Hello Brent,

Contrary to other analysts, Ray has little confidence in Melton's two-step this week.  I want to believe.  Do I replace him with Clay Holmes and his single start this week?

H2H points, wins not a factor, IP are.  Your advice is part of the reason I'm in the second round of the playoffs.  Please help.
Brent Hershey
12:19
Especially if IP is part of what you're chasing, I think you need to prioritize a two-starter over a single.

Hi Brent. Starting H2H semifinals (5x5 with OBP) and eyeing some hot hand httters. For this week only and disregarding position, would you prefer either Bazzana or Arenado over any of Mayo, Josh Baez, Edman, Rumfield, or Roman Anthony?
Brent Hershey
12:21
I'd replace Edman with Bazzana, yes. Would keep the rest

Curious if you are aware if teams that clinch playoffs slow their running game down in final games to reduce injury risk. Sort of like reducing pitch count for pitchers. I differentiate teams that can still win division or top wildcard (home field). Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:25
Interesting theory; would love to see multi-year research on it. But yes, in general separating teams by their state (in playoff races; playing out the string, etc etc) and adding that as a factor of some sort in selecting players for late-September fantasy rosters can be a worthy exercise.

Hi /Brent- nl only- can you rank your best four for last 2 weeks and best four for next year. edwards is in last year--H rodriguez, ortiz, h.hernandez,happ,bleday,edwards,karros,veen,moniac.
Brent Hershey

Last 2: Edwards, H Hernandez, Moniak, Karros
Next yr: Hernandez, Moniak, Rodriguez, Karros

Brent, what are thoughts on Braxton Ashcroft’s potential and role for the Pirates for next year? He seems to fly under his hype train and seems pretty valuable. Thanks Bill
Brent Hershey
12:34
Def has flown under the radar some. Assuming this vague "arm discomfort" is minor and he's ready to go by spring, I think he's a legit member of that rotation. Skills absolutely back up his performance; though went from 118 IP to 165 this year which is worth watching. But our xERA for him — 3.28 —says his surface numbers could have been better. An SP anchor for PIT if healthy.

Optimizing rotation for this week (head to head 5x5 with QS). Have Tong, Soriano, Mathews today, and concerned about shutdown risk for Joe Ryan going later in the week. Javier and Kirby are on the wire. Would you drop Ryan outright to add either? Or, wait to see how the first start goes for Mathews / Tong today and possibly drop one of them tomorrow?
Brent Hershey
12:37
I'd hold for now. More interested in Javier than Kirby at this point, but pref Ryan over both. Tong might well be your cut tomorrow, yes, as he gets Philly later in the week.

A riddle for you.  How do you blow a 21 point lead at the end of August down to 4 points today?
Answer:  With a pitching staff that only nets 7 wins, 14 losses and 10 no decisions.

My condolences, Guest. Hold tight; we're here for you!

Need stolen bases AL-only.  Best bet, R.Martin (TOR), Rave, Siri, J. Lowe, Malgeri or some other unrostered speed I'm overlooking?
Brent Hershey
12:43
Josh Lowe. Best combo of playing time (against most RHP; 5 this week) and current shown speed. Onlys are rough out there.

hi Brent, I am looking at next year, which 4 players would put on your protection among : j ramirez, busch, perdomo, murakami, w abreu, langford, baker and latz. Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:45
Baker, Latz and J-Ram (3B is ugly) for sure. 4th probably comes down to Abreu v Langford. Right now, I'd go Abreu, as Langford's injury history is troublesome. 1B is deep, so don't think Busch or Murakami gives you an advantage.

hi Brent, is Amador the real deal? If yes, has he arrived? Thank you
Brent Hershey

I'm pretty intrigued. This stretch (3 of the final 4 series at home) is a great time to find out. Still young, but pop and BA ability from MIF. And Coors, of course ... hope they give him a legit shot here last 2 weeks.

Have a dilemma in my H2H Finals matchup this week.  5x5 7-day game.  Just got Judge back from IL and looks like Caglianone is back.  Would you insert either into your lineup for the Finals?  Current looking at this lineup:
C LHicks vATH vBOS
1B BRice @MIN @ARI
2B FTatis @COL vMIA
3B JCaminero vATH vBOX
SS BBichette vBAL vPHI
OF AJudge @MIN @ARI
OF KClemens vNYY @LAA
OF MHarris @CHC @HOU
UT JBell vNYY @LAA
bench: JCaglianone @HOU @PIT, MMachado @COL vMIA, BStott @WAS @NYM

I think I'd want MannyM in there for JBell. At least a bit of life over L31 days, and a Coors series. Otherwise, looks right. Good luck!
