No question is silly and what you ask might help other people who are attending, so don’t be shy! We’ve got 5 members of the Talent Spotting Team here today ready to answer all of your questions. Remember that any general questions not related to Summer School should be directed towards the RfE inbox at reachforexcellence@leeds.ac.uk

Hi @Sadia!

What experience will students gain from summer school?
Dee23

How many people may we be sharing a bathroom with?
AvatarShauni
4:02
@Dee23 Hello! At the very most you'll be sharing a bathroom with one other person
Dee23

How much free time will we have in the nights after the evening events to socialise?

@Mahezbeen Hello!
AvatarMolly
4:06
@Sadia There are so many different experiences that students will have the opportunity to get involved with as part of summer school, so there's no one answer! Just like the scheme itself they'll have the opportunity to attend academic workshops, personal development sessions, and a whole host of other fun activities. The aim of the summer school is to build our students' confidence and improve on a range of transferable skills, but there's so many other things we do too, and it's always a fantastic week for all involved.

Will my child be served halal food, also how much people are sharing one room
AvatarShauni

@Mahezbeen, yes - each meal will include vegetarian and Halal food options, as well as taking into account students with special dietary requirements.

@Dee23 Hi! each evening you will have 2 hours of free time before we ask for students to go to rooms. Your room is your own and is not shared with anyone so you would be free to chill out in that space also but I would recommend trying to get some sleep!
AvatarShauni

All students will have their own individual room which is just theirs - these are situated in flats of no more than 8 students
Sadia

Thank you, are students rewarded with UCAS points
Mahezbeen Mussa
4:08
Will my son have access to the gym? Thanks
AvatarMolly

@Sadia there aren't any UCAS points attached to the summer school no, but activities like these are always fantastic to be able to discuss on your personal statement and at interview.

How likely is it that we will be sharing a flat with a friend
Haaroon
4:10
@Mahezbeen, there is no access to a gym. But the days will be jam packed with lots of fun activities
AvatarMolly
4:10
@Dee23 Just like university halls, you won't know who you are sharing with until you arrive. Males and females are kept separate and will not be sharing accommodation. You'll get your own individual room which is just yours, and then you'll be free to socialise in the communal living space in the flat with other students. You can also spend time in the other flats in your block too if you have more friends there! We encourage you to get to know new people, but Shauni has also tried to make sure you’ll be placed with at least someone else you will know where possible. Please don't worry though - we don't spend that much time in flats as we are out and about for most of the time!

Will there be wifi available
AvatarMolly

@Guest We do have some log-ons for you to connect to Wi-Fi at certain venues and times on campus, and the accommodation also has good 4G connection.

When will we find out which of our choices we get to do?
Haaroon
4:17
@Guest, you’ll find out all of your activity choices during the week. Shauni has been busy allocating students to their preferred sessions, and although they’ve been allocated on a first come first served basis she has tried to make sure that everyone gets to attend their first choice

With the activities will we be separated into groups and if so how much people are there in a group
AvatarMolly
4:18
@Anonymous Yes, you'll be working with lots of different people on the summer school, which will hopefully give you the chance to make lots of new friends! The size of the groups will depend on what the activity requires.

We're really looking forward to welcoming you all to the Summer School! We appreciate it can be really nerve-wracking, but promise you'll have so much fun and most students find that they don't want to leave by the end of the week! We've paid over £800 per student to make sure you have the very best possible experience and get to access a varied and jam packed programme of activities during the week :)

How much free time will we have during the day. Will we be able to visit our friends?
AvatarShauni
4:29
The programme really is jam packed with activity, but we make sure you have bits of free time each day to get ready/freshen up/chill out before the evening activity and you'll have a couple of hours free time before bed. You'll be welcome to go visit friends in other flats on the summer school, but once you are signed in, you'll be unable to go off site/away from the main summer school group if the friends you mention are not also participants!

Hi. What is the situation with buses as it said on the leaflet send out that we need to have pre booked?
AvatarShauni
4:36
Hi @Guest - Everyone has indicated how they'll be travelling to summer school when they returned their transport forms. If you let us know that you'd be travelling on one of the buses, we've booked you a place. If you're not sure of you'd like to change your transport choice, just send us an email to the RfE inbox at reachforexcellence@leeds.ac.uk

What time do we have to wake up?
AvatarMolly
4:51
@Nimrah breakfast is at 8.30 every day, so we need everyone to be in our Refectory by then. You'll be able to agree a wake up time with your flat and your student host will make sure you're awake on time too!
