Let's talk Steelers.
Ken

Maybe they should consider making Muth a WR since the other WRs are doing very well?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:56
We like to put labels on players. Freiermuth is a tight end, but he's one of the Steelers' top receiving targets. In the end, it really doesn't matter where he aligns. He catches more balls for more yards than anyone else on the team.

Merry Christmas Ray! The Steelers can't really be considering retaining Canada next year, like Ziese suggested, can they?! Say it aint so!
Ray Fittipaldo
1:57
Zeise didn't say the Steelers are considering it. He gave his opinion on what he would do.

Likelihood that Steelers draft a starting LT & let DMoore compete for LG for next year?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:58
Depends on how the draft falls. The top left tackle prospects tend to go in the top 10-15 picks. And there has to be one that you really like. Also, Dan Moore has been a tackle in his two years in the NFL, and he was a tackle at Texas A&M. I'm not saying he can't do it, but he's a trained tackle.

Does Leal have the capability of playing Edge starting next year instead of DL?
Ray Fittipaldo
1:59
He's a tweener for sure, but I think they view him as a DL and not an edge although they used him there some when Watt was out. I think he's versatile enough to play edge in a pinch, but they view him as a better fit as a DE.

The Steelers have a need for an OL in the draft, but if Georgia' s Carter is there, would you take him?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:00
Carter is likely a top-5 pick. Unless the Steelers lose their final five they're not picking in the top 5.

Do think Pittsburgh ought to give up their first rounder this year for a proven, young OT or other offensive line position.  I thought MP was a genius move and has worked out very well.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:01
Sure, but he's trading away a young franchise left tackle?
MTScott
2:01
If FA market for Edmunds was minimal last year, I think Steelers could & should sign him to a longer term deal after the season?  Think the same might happen with DBush?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:01
Maybe, but it depends on what kind of interest he receives on the open market.

Good afternoon Ray, with multiple teams needing QBs due to recent 1QB injuries,  have teams contacted the Steelers to discuss a trade?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:02
The trade deadline was a month ago.

I called the offensive line a "bunch of tomato cans" in the preseason.  Its clear I was wrong and they are playing fairly well, esp in the run game.  How many new starters will we actually need/have on the line in 2023?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:02
1 or 2.
Irwin M. "Fletch" Fletcher

Why even attempt an RPO with Pickett? He has mobility but he's not a runner. I thought that was a terrible play call in that situation.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:04
I don't recall the exact down and distance but remember the play. I think in that situation you're looking for a defender to be out of position, to catch them off guard so to speak. If that happens, Pickett is more than capable of running to daylight. Give the defender credit. He wasn't fooled.

Is it a given that Boswell returns this week?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:04
I don't think so. He is eligible to return, but Tomlin said today he wants to watch him in practice before he is activated back onto the 53-man roster.

I get George Pickens being upset that he is not getting the ball--he is arguably the Steeler best offensive weapon--particularly after Diontae had another case of the dropsies; however, I wasn't focusing on him most of the game until his sideline outburst was caught on camera - is he getting open and just not being targeted?  Not open, but thinks he is?  What is it?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:05
Receivers always think they
2:06
are open. It's hard for me to tell because I'm not concentrating solely on Pickens, but I do think there are certain situations where you have to try to get your best weapon the ball. Those one-on-one situations that are presented on occasion throughout the game.

Ray, thanks for your good work. Your colleague Paul is calling for the Steelers to keep Canada. I think it’s a bit early for this kind of statement but I agree with Paul that the offense has been less offensive. Your thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:07
I agree with you. The offense has been better, and it's a bit premature to make that call based off a couple of wins against some other below-average teams.

Is Pat Meyer a keeper?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:07
I think so. The line has improved every week. He's done a good job.

Why do so many reporters, including at the PG, continue to say DJ is paid $18M per year? The total contract is $39.8M over three years. That’s $13.3M per year.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:09
Thank you. I try to point this out, and no one wants to hear it. It was a new, three-year $39 million contract. But whether it's framed as $18 or $13 million a year Diontae Johnson isn't making enough plays to justify the contract. And I write that knowing full well lots of things are out of his control.

DJ's non-fumble and Maulet's non-PI were sure helpful to get out of that stadium with a W. Maybe I should just ignore the next call that clearly goes against the Steelers?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:10
I didn't have a problem with the non-call on Maulet. As for the Johnson play, I continue to be mystified what the NFL considers a catch or an incomplete pass. It's the most convoluted rule, and it's been that way for years.

Given what we are seeing from the Bengals, I think the 1st pick in the draft needs to be a top end CB to cover their WRs. This is based on the philosophy that you need to build the team to win the division. Do you think the new front office has a similar view?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:11
The new front office knows they have to upgrade the position. But they also need OL and DL just as bad.

Hey Ray, other than your own of course, do you give credence to any additional mock drafts?  Thanks.
Ray Fittipaldo

Only mine matters.

Good afternoon Ray.  Any health updates on Boswell or Austin?  Thank you.
Ray Fittipaldo

Austin is out for the remainder of the season. Boswell is eligible to return from IR this week, but Tomlin said he wanted to watch him in practice first before he is activated.
