Sorry for the delay. We'll get started in one minute.

Hi Ray,
Do you know the relationship between Omar K, and B. Hunt? Omar failed to mention him in his press conference, and when giving the opportunity to speak on Brandon, he didnt thank him, just said, moves are being made. I found that extremely odd, since they where KC's one two punch. Thoughts?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:09
Well, it would appear Omar wanted to bring in his own people in Andy Weidl and Sheldon White. I can't speak to their relationship, but Brandon landed on his feet in Philly, where I'm sure he'll do well. The Steelers and Eagles basically traded player personnel guys with the deal.

Ray, we've been over, under and around the qb topic, but I'm going to give it one more try.  What's the downside of a genuine 3-way competition for the starting job?  If Mason clearly outplays the competition (unlikely as that might seem in May), why shouldn't he win the job?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:09
Of course. I just think it's hard to stage a three-way competition. There are only so many meaningful reps with the first-team offense in camp.

What are your expectations for Tuitt arriving at the obligatory OTA's?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:10
None. I expect he'll be there for minicamp next week.

Hi Ray. I noticed the Steelers haven't issued Joe Haden's #23. While he was an excellent player for the Steelers, I wouldn't add him to the list of "Retired" numbers. Any chance they're leaving the lights on for a return?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:10
I doubt it, but if there's an injury in camp then maybe.

2:10
Ray, what is your take on Alex Highsmith? Is he 'just a guy' or is he  a high-level talent still being developed?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:10
Big year for Highsmith. If he wants a second contract with the Steelers ne needs to put up a little more sack production.

Id imagine Brandon Hunt is not a happy camper. Do you see him leaving for another team??
Ray Fittipaldo
2:11
The Eagles hired him last week.

2:11
Lets say for the sake of argument Tuitt does return. Since signing his big 60 million dollar extension he has practically missed more than half the games. At what point do we learn he will return? Guess training camp in late july or early august. Puts the Steelers in a bind
Ray Fittipaldo
2:12
Just because Tuitt hasn't done an interview with reporters doesn't mean he hasn't communicated with the Steelers front office. I would imagine they a little more than they've been telling us.

Packers aka cheesefaces offer G.M Ray-Ray Fitti a 2nd & 4th for that man butterfingers Diontae Swang Johnson. Does G.M Ray Ray take it or balk??
Ray Fittipaldo
2:13
Nope. Johnson can help the Steelers this season. He's their No. 1 WR. And with the Packers, you'd probably talking about a late 2 and late 4. So no thanks.

Ray, reports are that Tuitt sold his house (?).  I'm not convinced he is coming back.  Are Loudermilk, Wormley, and Leal capable of picking up the slack?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:14
He did sell his house. He lives in Indianapolis with his family. He's in the final year of his deal. All we're talking about is him renting a house for six months and then retiring or becoming a free agent and signing somewhere else.

One running theory was that a combination of Kahn and Hunt would take over as a replacement for Colbert, but by bringing in Weidl, the Steelers surely should have known that Hunt would leave.  Is Khan/Weidl better than Khan/Hunt?  Why?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:15
It could just be Omar wanted to work with Weidl more. I don't think it's odd for a team to allow a GM to bring in some people he would like to work with. Stinks for Hunt and his family, but the Steelers chose Omar.

Hello. Thank you as always for the chat.  Before the GM announcement, Kevin Colbert expressed the possibility that he might stay with the organization in some advisory role, as long as he is not an obstruction.  Do you know that if Khan is keeping Kevin in some advisory role in the future set up ? Thank you very much.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:16
It sounds like that is being worked out. Omar said during his news conference on Friday that Colbert is always only a phone call away.

Hi Ray. I’m getting sick and tired of these diva WR’s being unhappy with their contracts. I think they are way overpaid for what they do and when they get paid they then complain about it. Do they not know how much money they are making? Who’s to blame for this entitlement? At the end of the day it just gets passed down to the fans aka the consumers right? It’s getting out of control. Let them walk!
Ray Fittipaldo
2:17
Who's to blame? NFL teams for signing these WRs to these contracts. Not that I blame WRs for any of it. The market is the market. Good for them.

Any COVID related changes expected for training camp you have heard about or can we expect the normal interactions.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:18
I was told camp would get back to normal. I'm sure the county and state might have a say if the numbers spike in the coming weeks, but the Steelers are expecting fans back at Saint Vincent in July and August.

I've not been this excited about the offense since Bell, Brown and Ben were in their primes. Having a mobile quarterback who extends drives with his legs. One of the top backs in the NFL. Good TE combo. With the addition of the two tough and speedy rookie receivers, I think they'll have a top third receiving corps. Too optimistic?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:18
A tad.

Is Friday Night Lights back at Latrobe this year?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:20
The Steelers should be releasing their camp schedule any day now. That's always a big event and assume it will be a go.

Early indications show Trubisky being handed the QB1 spot.  What’s the harm in letting your first round QB run with the 1’s.  What has Trubisky really earned yet anyway?  He was a backup last year.  Make him earn the #1 spot.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:21
What about making Pickett earn it over a five-year vet. Me thinks you don't know how NFL locker rooms work.
Bill
2:21
In hindsight, was it one of Kevin Colbert's most bone-headed moves to rely on an undersized rookie guard to play center in 2021 in Ben's last year? Why couldn't he find one in free agency or even a practice squad?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
They had them on the practice squad all year and chose to play Green instead... until later in the season when JC Hassenauer played over a healthy Green. Colbert, by the way, says that's one of his biggest regrets from last season.

Who will lead the WR in touchdowns?
Ray Fittipaldo
2:22
I'd put my $ on Johnson in a contract year.
Jim
2:23
Do you think we should sign Johnson now if he will take a home town discount to sign early? I know he probably won't, but can't hurt to ask. Be nice to have all our young receivers under contract for awhile.
Ray Fittipaldo
2:23
Why would he take a hometown discount? It's a business.

Ray, first time caller...love the show.  I know it's only football in shorts right now, but what's your best guess on which receivers make the team?
