Goof morning, Will! I am applying two programs, if I submit the first one and then start the second one, but the recommenders for the first application has not submitted the letter, can I still send him the reminder and check the status after I submit the first one? Thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:02
Anny, yes, you will be able to do that.

Hi Will, do we need to tick the box in the application where it asks us if Penn had to sponsor our visa?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:03
Kushan, you would need to check that if Penn would be sponsoring your visa. If you would be a full-time student, you'd want to check that unless you'd have visa sponsorship from another area.

When is comes to letters of recommendation for graduate programs, is it required for the candidate to electronically upload a Reference letters that they have?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:04
No, the letter writer should be submitting the letter. A candidate is not allowed to upload a letter of recommendation, as that would make the letter questionable, to say the least.

Hello, Mr. Fenton. This is Wenhao and I am planning to apply for MSE Data Science program. I am wondering for the resume part of application process, are we required to submit only one page resume? Is it ok to submit two pages cv instead of one page resume?
Also, I am wondering for the standard test score, how important is the analytic writing score of GRE in the overall application?
Thanks a lot for your explanations.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:05
Wenhao, there is no specific requirement for the CV/Resume. It is up to you and which style you believe best represents you and your information. And the analytic writing score is important, but I can't say it is 10% or 25% important, as we look at all of the parts of the application.

I was filling out the online application today and I had a few things I needed to get clarified. First, I am currently employed, so in the "employment" section, what should I put in as my "end date"? Should I just leave it empty?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:06
Yes, you can leave it empty.

Good morning Will. My name is Ka-Wai (i go by Ed), and I am interested in the CGGT program. I saw that there is no early deadline for this program, and the application is not due until Feb. I wonder will the school admit students on a rolling-basis, or will the staff begins to review applications after the strict deadline? Many thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:06
Ka-Wai, thank you for your question. Reviews will not begin until after the deadline.

Good morning Will! I have exchanged to foreign country as a exchange student for one semester. Is it required to submit the transcript from that school? Thank you.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:08
Anna, if the courses you are taking are for credit, then yes, you would need a transcript for that school, unless  the course names and credit for that school will show up on your main school unofficial transcript. If they do, then you don't need a separate transcript.

I'm still a bit confused about the visa thing, Will. Sorry about that! What other methods are there to get one's visa sponsored? Does Penn usually sponsor every full time student's visa?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:10
Kushan, if you are an international student, and admitted, then Penn would usually sponsor your visa. I recommend reading this about the two different types of visas: https://global.upenn.edu/isss/f1vsj1

Hi Will, What was the average GRE and TOEFL score for fall 2019 to get admit in CIS program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:10
Gaurav, you can find some GRE info here: https://www.cis.upenn.edu/graduate/how-to-apply/admissions-statistics/. We don't release the avg TOEFL score, but we recommend at least 100.

so the PhD application is invalid if there is no GRE score?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Guest, if you don't have a GRE score, your application will not be considered and it will ultimately be rejected as being incomplete. However, you do have until Dec 15, the PhD Deadline, to submit scores, so you still have some time.
