Welcome to this Tuesday's Steelers chat. Let's get started.

Coach Tomlin has gone 13 straight years without a losing season.  He is tied for 2nd place with Don Shula and if he has another non losing season next year will tie for 1st with Marty Shottenheimer.  Not too bad company to be with?
Steelers insider

Yeah that's certainly good company. I'm kind of on the fence with that stat. The whole non-losing season thing is kind of cumbersome. Obviously, it would be more impressive if it was consecutive winning seasons, but for him not to have a losing season as a head coach is phenomenal. The Steelers are in playoff contention year after year when almost every other team in the league cannot say that.

Does Belichick have any credibility when it comes to him saying that he doesn’t know anything about the filming? Is he trying to say he wouldn’t use that in his preparation? Then why film the opposition??

Not sure what to think of this latest story. It could be the top of the iceberg to a huge story or an innocent error. The latest I read was that the video was eight minutes of direct sideline movements. In other words, they were taping everything that was going on on the sidelines, the signals coaches use, everything. That sounds an awful lot like Spygate. It's also very odd that the Patriots would send an in-house media crew to Cleveland for a segment on an advanced scout when the Bengals just so happen to be the next opponent. It all seems kind of fishy to me. But knowing Belichick he'll use it as a rallying point. He convince his team the NFL is out to get him. They'll probably run the table and some stiff who isn't even on the team now will catch the winning TD pass in overtime of the Super Bowl.

When they pass the ball, it looks like there's just a few areas of the field that get consideration. Rarely are they throwing to a receiver on a seam route or on a medium crossing pattern. Is this b/c Hodges doesn't know the some of the playbook or b/c receivers are still not getting separation? Thanks...

2:06
It's still a conservative game plan. They're not asking Hodges to do a whole heck of a lot. He is growing from week to week. I'm sure they're getting more comfortable with him as he proves he is more than capable. But he's just not going to have the run of the playbook the way Ben Roethlisberger did. Hodges himself would probably tell you in a private moment that he doesn't have a firm grasp of the entire playbook. No rookie would whether he's a No. 1 overall pick or an undrafted rookie free agent.

If you had/have a code for a coach of the year and Tomlin gets this team into the playoffs would/will you cast your vote for him or someone else?
Steelers insider

Mike Tomlin would be in my top 3. John Harbaugh has done a great job in Baltimore and Kyle Shanahan has done similar things in San Francisco. There are others to consider too, including Sean McDermott of Buffalo. He's facing his old college teammate this week -- Mike Tomlin.

If the Titans finish with the same record as the Steelers, do we own the tie breaker?
Steelers insider
2:09
The first tiebreaker is conference record. Right now the Steelers are ahead of the Titans with a better conference record. However that could change over the final three weeks because the Titans still play an NFC team while the Steelers finish with three AFC teams. If they are tied in conference record it goes to strength of victory and then to strength of schedule. And no, I haven't yet researched how to determine strength of victory.

Snow forecasted Sunday. Wouldn't it be great national TV to have a game in the snow. Which team would it help/hurt?
Steelers insider
2:10
Yes that would be great. It's already going to be a defensive game in my opinion. Cold and snow would play right into that. First one to 10 wins!

Looking back at this year and the loss of Ben during the second game, do you believe the Steelers make the trade for Minkah if ben had been healthy?
Steelers insider
2:12
That's a good question. I know they wouldn't have made the trade if Sean Davis was healthy. Mike Tomlin pretty much came out and said that right after the trade was made. I don't have a definite answer for you. What would the Steelers' record be with a top 10 offense under Ben and another mediocre defense? I have no idea, but it's kind of worked out great for the Steelers. Both this season and moving forward.

Is there something wrong with Pouncey?  He seems to be having a lot of low snaps this year.
Steelers insider
2:13
I've noticed that too. On the Hodges to Johnson TD pass, Hodges did a nice job of fielding a low snap and maintaining his timing to make that throw. And how about that throw? Not sure how many No. 1 picks can make that throw. Not bad for an undrafted rookie out of Samford.

Seems like only good things happen when the new guys (Cain and Whyte) touch the ball!  Hoping they will continue to be involved once everyone is healthy.    Any chance coaches will expand their involvement?
Steelers insider
2:14
I think that will happen, but Tomlin talked today about not giving rookies and other young players too much exposure. They've handled their young guys really well so far I think.

We don’t seem to be able to get our TE’s involved in the passing game.  Is that lack of talent, needing to stay in and block or just by design?

All of the above.

So Pittsburgh sports are now represented by a Penguin, a parrot and a Duck. We will leave the turkey for Cleveland.

Myles Garrett or Joe "Turkey" Jones. Ha ha.

Do you feel like Mason will eventually make a comeback? maybe mature a little on the sidelines watching others play? and are football players like pro golfers, do they have psychologists that they work with to assist with the mental aspect of the game?
Steelers insider
2:16
Tomlin was asked today about how Mason has been handling the demotion. He raved about him and his approach. I'm sure it's difficult for him, but all athletes go through this at some point in their careers. If he approaches it the right way it will make him better.

I live in NC and have heard rumors that David Tepper is trying to get Colbert and Kahn away from Pittsburgh.  Have you heard anything about that?
Steelers insider
2:18
Yes we had a story about that Sunday. Tepper is interested, but that doesn't mean Colbert has mutual interest. THere has been a lot of speculation about this going back to the summer because of Tepper's ties to the Steelers. It resurfaced last week because Tepper fired Ron Rivera.

Why do the Patriots insist on cheating? It's simply unbelievable.
Steelers insider
2:20
If these latest allegations turn out to be true, Roger Goodell has no other recourse but to hand down the stiffest penalty in the game's history. He already fined them and docked them draft picks for other violations. If they doubled down and did it again they should face much harsher consequences. But let's see how this plays out. The fact that someone from the Bengals viewed the tape is good. The league will see it too. It's not like Spygate when it was destroyed and there was a lot of guesswork about the extent of the cheating.

With the potential that Whyte, Cain and Tevin Jones, would you say that   Steelers do not have to draft a WR or RB in April. Focus on OL and DE.
Steelers insider
2:21
Too early to say. Right now I'd say focus on the offensive line and get a good left guard. But they might need a TE too. Don't forget about that.

Any chance Tuitt could play if we make playoffs?
Steelers insider

Tuitt was placed on season-ending IR.

Hi....If Ben Roethlisberger comes back, Hodges looks to be a reliable back up QB. Do you think the Steelers could get a mid to late round draft pick for Mason Rudolph?
Steelers insider
2:23
Not so sure about that. They got a fifth-round pick for Dobbs, but Dobbs didn't have as much negativity on his tape as Rudolph does. Maybe a late-round pick, but I'm not even sure they'd want to trade him. They value having three QBs they can trust. Look at what happened this year.

Have the Steelers ever had more than one player talked about as Defensive Player of the Year (Watt, Fitzpatrick, Dupree--a stretch, but he is having one heck of a season)?
Steelers insider
2:25
It's been a heck of a season for the defense. Watt seems to have more momentum for DPOY than Fitzpatrick. They're both playing at an elite level. Dupree is a stretch, but he's playing great in his own right. Watching their growth this year has been remarkable.

Thank you for the chat.   If Burns and Davis are not resigned and become free agents and then sign with other teams - will this put the Steelers in line for compensatory draft picks in the 2020 draft.

Great win, but.....Offense only put up 16 points on one of the leagues worst defense. Must get running game stronger to compete with better teams. Having Connor back should help but how reliable is he? I really think we need more of
