Which Free Agents will sign in Minnesota and which Trade Rumor is the closest to happen (McGroarty, Laine, Gustavsson, Rossi, Middleton)?

Minnesota enters the day with about $6.25MM in space, but Declan Chisholm still needs a new deal. Assuming they can get him cheap, let's guesstimate $5.25MM.

Biggest need is a top-six winger, but they have a few other spots that need filling (two/three depth Fs, I'd imagine).

I'd expect them to land a LW to bump Marcus Johansson down the depth chart, likely in the $3.5MM AAV range. One name that jumps out to me is Viktor Arvidsson. I wonder if he could be had for cheap after an injury-plagued season.

McGroarty feels closest to me. I'm honestly shocked it didn't happen already.

They've been connected to him for too long not to sign him today. Nothing's done until it's done, but if he heads elsewhere, that would really surprise me.

Bingo. Stephenson is their likeliest #2 option. Duchene is very close to a new deal in Dallas.

Would expect them to make a push for Marchessault... our Gabe Foley is starting our writing coverage this AM and should have a piece up soon on reports last night that he didn't reach an agreement with Vegas.

Teräväinen's gone, and I think DeBrusk is narrowed down to a few suitors that aren't CAR. Tyler Toffoli would be a name to watch there too.

But he's more comfortable on the right. In terms of a direct Guentzel replacement, Marchessault's the closest you'll find.

I'm not surprised he re-upped in Detroit, but I am surprised it's only a one-year deal. Figured he'd really want two after the season he had.

But that's a nice deal for him, even if I don't think he's someone you have on a "winning" team at this stage (just look at those ghoulish defensive impacts!). He's got the experience and, quite frankly, no matter how much you suck in your own end, producing nearly a point per game is worth a one-year, $4MM bargain.

That can increase to $6.5MM with performance bonuses, but you'll have to forgive me... not sure what those stipulations are. Haven't had the time to nail those down after a crazy night.

Man, letting Pinto walk for an offer sheet would be good for the cap situation, but that's putting way too much pressure on Norris' bum shoulder(s?).

I would expect them to at least call on names like Matt Roy, Sean Walker, Nikita Zadorov, etc.

Not sure if they can fit them, but that's a much higher priority than any F signings. You can take some swings on league min guys and try giving larger roles to guys like Crookshank (I'm confident in him being a decent full-timer next year) and Ostapchuk (notably less confident in him working out next year)

It would be understandable, but I haven't heard Carolina's name among the 6-7 teams that remain in serious discussions with Stamkos' camp.

Ottawa's had a really up and down past few days. Loved the Ullmark trade, but their draft showing was tough and letting Brännström walk was one of yesterday's more puzzling decisions. They've consistently undervalued him since picking him up in that Stone trade, really not a great look.

But I do think if you can land a Matt Roy-type guy while staying under a $5.5MM cap hit, that's some tidy work.
