OK we did it an hour later today because of Mike Tomlin news conference being today. So let us get started

Hi Paul...how do you think  Bud D’s injury will affect his free agent status?  Thanks.
Zeise
1:06
That’s a great question. The thing is that is generally a one year injury. So it isn’t likely he is gonna be ready for the start of next season. If I was him, I might think about trying to work out a one-year deal with the Steelers and maybe play the last six games and show I am healthy and then try in cash in before the 2022 season

To replace Bud, I hear some names such as Clay Matthews, Vic Beasley if we want to look for some outside veteran help. Do you stick with Highsmith/Ola or bring a veteran?
Zeise
1:07
I think if we have learned anything it is they have faith in their younger players and who they have in house so I don’t see that happening. It is going to be Highsmith’s job

With the Steelers having the division locked up, and KC having a much easier schedule down the stretch, do you use last 2 weeks to heal up and get ready for playoffs?
Zeise
1:07
No you keep trying to win until you are eliminated from the No. 1 seed or clinch it
1:08
Also the Steelers don’t have the division locked up. They eliminated the Ravens but the Browns only have three losses

Hi Paul.  There have been many great and crazy moments in the Steelers-Ravens rivalry.  But Vince laying on a guy to kill the clock near the end of the 1st half, and getting away with it, and watching Harbaugh cry again, was one of my favorites. What did you think?
Zeise
1:10
Harbaugh was right to be mad because the refs should have stopped the clock and called delay of game. However, Williams was right to do what he did. The heck with it, make the refs call that and if they don’t you make a huge play for your team.

With Bud out do you see Hightower having some success as teams will double up on TJ?
Zeise
1:12
Well I see Highsmith having some success because of the scheme, because Watt will now get the double teams and because he is an athletic player and has a good burst which is what that position requires. He will make a mistake or two but you have to live with it

Hey Paul.  Did you happen to notice that every time Griffin yelled “yes, yes, yes”, he ran the ball up the middle?  Apparently, the Steelers didn’t.
Zeise
1:13
I did not but I’ll take your word for ut

When you have a chance to meet Coach T, please tell him to take an easy 3 pts instead of going for on 4th down. I thought it was dumb to not kick a FG and that play resulted in an end zone INT. Who knows that INT may result in a TD and just swing the momentum to Baltimore?
Zeise
1:15
I agree, I always take points early in the game and take a lead. I think it is the smart play early like that. It worked out though because Griffin telegraphed a pass that Joe Haden picked off and scored on

OMG that was ugly.  But without the drops the Steelers would have won "handily". Do we really think that performance was a result of all the COVID changes? Hard to tell by post game comments if they were mad at that or simply their bad performance.
Zeise
1:16
That was a mess. I do think some of the stuff that happened was just because of being out of routine and lack of practices and all of that but the dropped passes were not. That was ridiculous performance by the receivers. I don’t think it will mean much more than one bad day but it was a really bad day

Paul, when does the Steelers’ luck finally  out?
Zeise
1:17
I think great teams create their own luck. I don’t think they have been totally lucky, they have made plays to win games. Now there is always an element of luck. They had two fumbles that bounced out of bounce as opposed to bouncing back into the field of play

Any thoughts about the chance of the Steelers looking into Suggs or Matthews as a depth piece for OLB?
Zeise
1:18
As I have said, that hasn’t been their style. They like their own players and believe in them

Thanks for the chats Paul.  I get 11-0 is 11-0 but is anyone concerned with the lack of playing any of the top teams?  The Browns are 8-3 because our division plays the dreadful NFC east.  I dont worry about a letdown game, I worry about playing horrible teams and barely beating them then we lose first round in playoffs!  Talk me off the ledge!
Zeise
1:20
They beat the Ravens the first time and they beat the Titans and looked good for a lot of both of those games. You beat who is in front of you, work on getting better and keep moving forward. Once the playoffs start it is about who is playing best not who has had the toughest schedule
TJ

Coaching and Game Plan was also Junior Varsity? Seemed like we coached to keep the Ravens in the game - short kickoffs, not kicking a FG early when you knew Ravens would struggle for points, and passing into Ravens strength. Sure mistakes didn't help but Game Plan was pretty Bad.
Zeise
1:21
Mike Tomlin made sure to include the coaching and decision making in his criticism. They didn’t have a good game at all
Mercury
1:21
Do you think Highsmith has the capability of getting many sacks? He seems more like a traditional outside linebacker than a pass rusher.
Zeise
1:22
In this scheme, with a guy like Watt commanding all the attention, yes, I do. Will he be Dupree? No not likely but he will be in position to have success
Doc
1:22
Good Afternoon Paul, do you you realistically think the Steelers can get past KC without Dupree and a poor running game ?
Zeise
1:23
Losing Dupree is a big blow because the way to get to KC and Mahomes is pressure and Dupree is a big part of the Steelers pass rush. But as they say - we won’t know until they play the game

So far this morning I have seen two PG writers describe Edmonds screwup as a whiff. A whiff is when you miss a tackle. That is not what I saw. I saw Edmonds make a stupid, selfish, rookie mistake and go for an int instead of the tackle (that was right in front of him until he jumped for the ball). He had a choice and made a really dumb one. How did you see it.
Zeise
1:25
I agree with you it was a bad play. I think Edmunds is one of those players that is hurt by expectations of a first round pick. He has been a solid, serviceable player but first round picks are supposed to be impact players and he hasn’t been. If he was a fourth round pick nobody would have an issue with what he does

If Pitt is afraid to schedule Duquesne because of the possibility of picking up a loss, that speaks volumes about what they think about this years team.  Very sad this game can't get scheduled.
Zeise
1:27
The theory is that this is a young team and young teams need confidence and that comes from winning. That’s why you avoid Duquesne and play St Francis because it enables you to pick up an easier win early in the season. Oh wait a minute......

Paul what is the hold that Ben has on the Roonys ? I ask cause if you honestly look at his career, he’s a glorified game manager not a HOF.
Zeise
1:28
I disagree. Early on in his career - and one might argue through both Super Bowl wins - he was. Those teams won with great defense and running games. But these last eight or nine years he has been an elite quarterback. He is gonna finish in the top five or six in NFL history in a bunch of categories

I was impressed with the play of Hassenauer, replacing Pouncey without much notice.  Is he viewed as a possible successor to Pouncey or will the Steelers look to draft a center such as Pitt’s Jimmy Morissey?  Thanks Paul.
Zeise
1:30
He did well. I don’t recall one bad snap to be honest. He did get blown past a few times but for the most part he was OK. He is a valuable backup right now. The future with Pouncey is probably tied to how long Roethlisberger plays

To be always remembered as Weird Wednesday. Heck, Mike Tomlin even won a challenge. He shoots get a big extension, not one of those short term
Zeise

It was absolutely a strange day from the 3:40 kick to the Ravens last touchdown
