Let’s groove tonight……
Ben

Paul.   Steelers have lack of talent because they haven’t drafted well.  Take a look at 2018 draft.    Edmunds Washington rudolph chuks marcus Allen and samuels.   Zero impact players.    How can any Steelers fan think this regime w Colbert and tomlin can fix this.  Their time has come. Clean out GM/coach and entire qb room thoughts
Zeise
12:05
I would agree. They like to draft a lot of guys who fit the profile - super athletic but not many great football players - Devin Bush
John
12:05
Paul… Steelers are a dumpster fire.   Ar2 came out the last three years and says we are going to fix running game.  They literally get worse.     Now they are the worst rushing defense in league.     Two staples of a once proud organization.    I just don’t see how they can stand by Tomlin at this point.    Nothing is changing just getting worse
Zeise
12:06
The thing they will say is “the offensive line was young and got better and yada yada ….” Do you see future dominating offensive linemen in the rookies and Chuks?
JR

Pitt misses national exposure and fan interested during rivalry week. Forget PSU cant anyone convince Pitt to end the season with WVU?
Zeise
12:08
Well if I’m not mistaken they are starting next season with WVU so there is that
Alan from Indy
12:08
Certainly not putting much of the  blame on Ben but, how would a 2010 version of BR perform with this O line?
Zeise
12:10
Thads just it - the year they beat the Cardinals in the Super Bowl the line was bad but he was mobile and could make plays on the run. Now he can’t move so he is a sitting duck
Tom in NC
12:10
Tom from NC.. the o-line and D-line are atrocious. What are your thoughts on not drafting a QB until they can get an O-line that can protect and a D-line that can stop the run?
Zeise
12:14
Well you have to figure Alualu will be back and that’s a big piece and who knows with Tuitt but the defensive line seems like it can be rebuilt quickly. The O line is a problem because they have convinced themselves their young guys are gonna be good enough
Mark
12:14
Paul, because I've been a Pitt fan forever, I can't sit back and enjoy a good season without expecting something bad to happen. Since we're coming up on bowl season, what do you think are the chances of Kenny Pickett sitting out the bowl game?
Zeise
12:18
He strikes me as a guy who would want to finish the season but the reality is he doesn’t owe Pitt anything more. If I were advising him I would tell him to skip the bowl and get ready for the draft

12:19
Should fans now hope for us to get destroyed the rest of the way to get Rooney to wake up (fire Tomlin) and maybe get a high draft pick or continue to pretend we have a shot at the playoffs?
Zeise
12:20
I would say yes. You need to have a wake up call in that office
Gene
12:20
Hi Paul is it true that this is Tomlin’s defense and he calls all the plays?
Zeise
12:21
According to him. Yes. It is amazing though he talks a lot more about it being his defense when they are playing well

What is the deal with Tuitt ? Is he even at the facility working out , or is this a depression thing and he’s at home ?
Zeise
12:21
It is one of life’s great mysteries
Skeptik
12:21
Looking at what the Mariners gave to the Padres for Adam Frazier, did the Buccos get enough for him?
Zeise
12:22
we won’t know until we see what the actual return is - I have no interest in prospects. At all. Let me know when they become major leaguers
Mercury
12:23
Do the Steelers feel they would somehow damage Buddy Johnson’s progress by putting him in the lineup? A clueless rookie couldn’t play any worse than Bush is playing.
Zeise
12:23
It is scary to me they think he is their best option
If the guys behind him aren’t better than him they have done a terrible job of acquiring players

Hi Paul! I wasn't convinced that the Steelers needed a rebuild until Sunday but now it is an easy decision. The Steelers don't have enough talent period. They have 4 stars in Watt Heyward Freiermuth and Harris. The other 18 starters would not sniff the field with most teams. The problem is where do you start? The QB issue is real but do you need to spend a first round pick on him( hopefully Pickett) when the need at OL and DL and ILB are more pressing?
Zeise
12:25
The scary thing is the absolute lack of depth they have. It is absolutely ridiculous how bad their back ups are
Dave
12:25
Paul, Why are the Steelers and other teams allowed to push bonuses (so called “voidable” money) out into future years that the players are not under contract for?  The Steelers have about $22.5 million in future cap money pushed out for the next four years.  About half of that money is for Ben.
Zeise
12:25
It is part of the system and it allows some flexibility in signing and acquiring players

I read your column that said a person wrote to you and said you acted like a jerk. I for one have never thought of you as a jerk. Terrible hot takes? Absolutely. Bad predictions? Sure. Awful opinions? Of course. But never a jerk :) On a serious note, is this the high water mark for Narduzzi or can we expect consistent 8+ wins from him?
Zeise
12:27
If they go consistently 8+ wins and have one of these kinds of years from time to time then that is probably what Pitt as a program is
Next Coach
12:27
Interesting that Mike Tomlin of all people seems to agree that if you keep doing the things that aren’t working, the situation isn’t going to improve. I would submit that the problem lies with the talent level on the Steelers, not on practice or schemes. After all, it’s the Jimmies and Joes, not the X’s and O’s as they say. The Steelers need better players at almost every position, and that is on the head coach and GM.
Zeise
12:27
They need better players and they need a better game plan and they need a better scheme and they need better assistant coaches ….

Well Jarry reverted back to the same ol Jarry last night as he looked bad. Smith has also been a terrible backup this year. Do the Pens look for a vet goalie for the stretch run later this year?
Zeise
12:29
I think the Penguins definitely need to make a move for a backup goalie. And preferably a veteran who has had some success as a starter so he can push Jarry
Mercury
12:29
Is Spillane on IR or the Covid list or both?
Zeise
12:29
He has all kinds of issues doesn’t he. He is on the COVID list

Do you know what Jacob Stallings was likely going to be paid? I thought this trade looked like another salary dump but I read that Perez is getting $5.5 million. Would Stallings have gotten much more?
Zeise
12:32
It wasn’t a salary dump. They wanted to add more prospects and they felt they could get Perez to play at a level defensively close to what Stallings could give them. I hate the trade and the philosophy but it is baseball
Sunner in Orlando
12:32
Did the Pirates make a bad decision when they traded Stallings for prospects? I don't know of the guys they received but to trade him and sign the former Cleveland catcher for 5 mil did not make sense to me especially when that catcher has major health issues. Our farm system looks a lot better but in reality, how many of these prospects will make a  difference in the long run?
Zeise
12:33
I don’t like it and like I said I don’t want to hear about prospects. I have no idea if they got a good return and won’t until we see what those guys become
