OK let’s get started

Paul… if you were running the Steelers how would you handle tuitt issue?   I get it is sensitive but he is taking up 15 mill on cap.    If his knee is ready .  It’s time to play.   Thoughts?
Zeise
12:08
I would put him on the IR for the rest of the year at this point. I keep hearing he is going to play this season but it seems like he isn’t close to coming back.

PZ, Cutch to the Bucs, what say you ?
Zeise
12:09
Someone needs to explain how this would make any sense at all for the Pirates and why he would want to come play for a team that has no chance of winning
Oscar
12:09
Brett Favre dad died suddenly and he went out and was unreal.  Countless other examples   Most athletes say they get their mind off of things on football field.  I have never seen an athlete do what tuitt is doing…..why is local media giving him such a pass
Zeise
12:10
Because he is injured - his knee isn’t right and he is trying to get healthy

Why don't you ever respond to comments on your "Zeise is Right" feature? You say right in the header that you "look forward to interacting with you all".
Zeise
12:12
I actually need to get back to doing that you are right. Here is the thing - I don’t get notifications for some reason when people comment. So unless I go looking for them I forget to check. The column is put up at 7 AM and so it is just something that I need to get better at responding too. I am gonna try and set up notifications straight to my email so I know when someone comments immediately

Hi Paul, ILB play and talent seems to be trending in the wrong direction.  Speed is Devin's Bush only asset, however he misses tackles and WR/TE's seem to out run him.  Seems Spillane needs more playing as he covers the run pretty well, but lacks good pass coverage skills.  Schobert seems like a good player, but not great! Ingram was no great loss.  Any options to play DB's at the ILB position to "improve" the defense?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:12
They were trying to do it with Marcus Allen but ideally they want a linebacker to play that role

12:13
Hey, Paul.  Looks like the Stillers will be (should be) 6-3 in a few weeks, and prime for a tight AFC North race.  But, taking a negative from a positive, might this just keep Roethlisberger under center for another year, further delaying needed change?
Zeise
12:14
Nah I can’t imagine that’s the case and frankly his reaction after the Browns game - far more spirited than I have ever seen him - tells me he probably knows that was his last game in Cleveland

12:14
Paul, wouldn't a better fake field goal play have Harvin, the holder, throw a pass instead of the frail looking good kicking Boz?
Zeise
12:14
I think given where they were on the field a better play would have been to just kick the damn ball
V. Fontaine

I blame you for the Pitt loss due your column that said they were the new sheriff in the ACC. The Zeise Jinx! Seriously, how do you think this team responds the rest of the way? They should win all four but I could easily see losses to UVA and UNC.
Zeise
12:17
The good news is Duke is horrific so Pitt should be able rebound nicely. The thing is there isn’t anyone on their schedule they can’t beat right now. But I think UNC, UVA or Syracuse will difficult games for thrm
Bernard
12:17
I'm far from a Franklin fan but I do think he out coached Ryan Day last weekend.  I know Clifford wasn't 100%, but how in the world did that team lose to Illini?
Zeise
12:19
He did not. They did a good job in the red zone but they didn’t stop Ohio State all night. Ohio State kicked field goals and they did so because they knew Penn State scored about as many points as they possibly could because their offense is limited
Paul
12:19
Love your game time chats it brings a whole new level of excitement watching games with you. Do you forsee Anthony Miller or Cody White getting some reps moving forward?
Zeise
12:21
I think both are going to get some run based on whoever is better at practice each week. The Steelers are still searching for a fourth receiver

Paul,                Is Roethlisberger’s arm so shot that he doesn’t have the confidence to throw the ball in the middle of the field?  How long until his ego doesn’t buy into Game Manager Ben and tries to be Pass Happy Ben?
Zeise
12:23
He is a game manager now. That’s what he is. He can’t make some of those throws down the field more than a few times a game. His best asset now is his brain and his experience and his knowledge of defenses and how to attack them

Hi Paul, the Armstrong Hockey situation was reminiscent of my experience playing HS football in the mid 80s.  Kittanning HS (now part of Armstrong) was in our conference. Our team was multi racial.  Upon arriving, our bus was pelted with rocks and other garbage, and we were subjected to nasty name calling of the worst kind targeted at our black players from the student body.  No adults intervened back then, either.  It's reasonable to assume that the students back then are now the adults you called out in your article. So the cycle continues...
Zeise
12:25
That is probably true. When I played college hoops at Point Park we played at a lot of outposts in the middle of nowhere and we were often the subject of some very ugly cheers and chants
Bernard
12:26
Will this Aaron Rodgers news have any long term impact on his attractiveness to other teams next season or his marketability (thinking State Farm)? I couldn't care less whether he's vaxed but I have a little more respect for Beasley and Kyrie today given their ability to take a stand and own it.
Zeise
12:27
No, hopefully by next year all the COVID protocols will be a thing of the past and nobody will be talking about them.

Paul - Thanks for the chats.  Could easily see three more losses by Penn State.  In about a month, Coach Franklin may have gone from from trendy pick to lucky to keep his current job?
Zeise
12:28
No Penn State wouldn’t fire him even if they lost out. I think they lost to one of the Michigan teams and won their other three games to finish 8-4 and then we will see what’s next
Bernard
12:28
What are your thoughts on Rams aggressively mortgaging the future to win now?  Works in NBA b/c a few players can make a massive difference but how will it work in NFL where the rosters are so much larger?  Is this a trend going forward?
Zeise
12:29
Have they really done that? And what we have seen in the NFL is this - the salary cap is very overrated and teams - like the Steelers - find ways to manipulate the cap annually
Paul from Sacramento
12:29
Hi Paul, Love your chats and insights. I realize that coaches think you have to play through officiating bad calls.. But, (maybe I'm just a homer) it seemed pretty one sided. Thoughts? Also, do you think they will ever allow challenges to personal fouls (like the Boswell non-call) to be reviewed?
Zeise
12:30
I’m wondering what game you mean was one sided? The Boswell non call was the only one I can think of that was egregious. That should have been called for sure

It is constantly said that football is a business.  If so, why do the Steelers not enforce player contracts?  Those like Ingram and Blount (who won a ring) can simply whine their way to new contender teams if unhappy.  Tuitt who is $10M+ against the cap is another example.  If he is fit and does not play per his contract, he should not be paid.  I know you will say it is the Rooney's way, but don't you agree this is bad precedent?
Zeise
12:31
The Players Association makes it very difficult to take a hard line stance. And it is a business but it is a team first and a bad apple you are forcing to stay around can ruin the chemistry of your team so I have no issue sending these guys packing
ev
12:31
Is Aaron Rogers as arrogant as his man-bun suggests?
Zeise
12:32
He certainly has a very high opinion of himself, yes
ev
12:32
Regarding McCutcheon, it would be nice to have him here to guide and set tone to a young Pirates team.  There's only one problem:  that future team's roster is still in the minor leagues...
Zeise
12:33
Exactly - what’s the point? You bring an older player who is gonna get paid but your team is still a long way from winning
Yankton Ern
12:33
Paul,       The offense has not been affected by the loss of JuJu, this solidifies my opinion that it was a mistake to re-sign this year and definitely let him walk after this season.  Your thoughts.
