Let’s get it started!!

Hi Paul, from what you have seen this season, which players do you see comprising the Pirates bench next year?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:05
I hope it is better than this but looking at contracts Perez, Difo and Tucker? You would hope they sign Yoshi but I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of change

Paul - Coach Franklin has to take a good look at the USC job?  Bigger payday, no Big 10 meat grinder, no looking up at Ohio State every year.....if successful, an easier path to the CFP and an extremely fertile recruiting ground.  Thanks.
Zeise
12:07
He would be a fool to take that job. He has a job now, close to his home, with about as much job security as anyone. He is one of the highest paid coaches in the country and I can’t imagine if you look at cost of living and tax differences that USC could pay him enough to make it a significant raise

Do you have any idea why TV announcers don't go to away games but the radio announcers do?That doesn't make sense!
Zeise
12:07
I would think there are a lot of long winded reasons but it most has to do I’m sure with cutting costs

Hi Paul.  It seems to me that Cole Tucker may be playing his last few games as a Pirate.  Should the Pirates give Newman another year to prove himself at the plate or should  he be traded or come into games in late innings for his defense?  Who would you like to see at shortstop and second base next year?  Thanks Paul.
Zeise
12:09
I think they should keep Newman and look to find their next shortstop. Is it O’Neil Cruz? Will he be ready? It is hard to know but Newman seems like he could have some value as a bench guy middle infielder

Paul, what are your thoughts about Paul Azinger’s Ryder Cup comments to Koepka?
Zeise
12:18
I think that Azinger is right - if Koepka doesn’t want to play, don’t play. I also think Koepka is right / I hate the Ryder Cup and if I was a PGA pro I would never play in it. It is a contrived, nonsensical event that makes a chump like Ian Poulter relevant
Tom

I think PFF is right about Ben. He made a couple decent throws  but he still is throwing the ball too quickly and I thi

People lose their minds about PFF but they are missing the point - they have an analytics formula to grade players. So they aren’t necessarily saying that “Joe was the best player at his position they are saying he earned the highest grade. A huge difference. Ben was just OK last week but he was good when they needed him to be

I have no understanding of why anyone cares about QB ratings, stat lines, predictions, etc.   Why is everyone so preoccupied with that silly stuff.  Look up the records of the best QB's in almost any program, and you will see great field generals and great leaders, not statistical anomalies or the greatest athlete.
Zeise
12:20
It is the weirdest thing - the Steelers win a huge game and instead of being excited about it, half the fan base is bitching that they aren’t getting respect. Just enjoy the win
Tom
12:20
Sorry I think PFF is right about Ben. His deep ball was non-existent and he got rid of the ball way too quickly again like last year. Not impressed aside from a couple of jump balls he threw tbh. Thoughts?
Zeise
12:21
Again, Ben was not great. But he was good when they absolutely needed him to be. That game was about Josh Allen. If he was good, the Bills would have won but he missed way too many throws

We've seen enough of Cole Tucker, right?
Zeise
12:22
Yeah you hate to give up on a first round pick
Rico
12:22
Rico 12 Zeise 0. Hey Paul since I embarrassed you on the Sports Call 2 weeks ago I thought you would tamper down on the right wing twitter nonsense. I guess you don't learn huh? I know you too scared to show this but what the hell happened to you bro?
Zeise
12:22
Rico has some thoughts. “Mom the meatloaf!!”

Due to Crosby and Malkin missing the early portion of the NHL season, will the Penguins see their playoff streak end?
Zeise
12:24
No. I don’t. The season is way too long. Those two will find a way back into health and when they do the team will take off. And Mike Sullivan is a really good coach so he will keep the Penguins afloat until he gets his big guns back
Jeff
12:24
I'm really liking Yoshi Tsutsugo. Reminds me of Jung Ho Kang before he got hurt. You think the Pirates bring him back next year?
Zeise
12:25
If he was a better fielder I would say yes. But I don’t know that they will give him a contract based on a small sample of some power hitting
Colin
12:25
If I remember correctly Paul weren't the Steelers actually trying to bring back Villanueva in the offseason? That seemed to be the reporting but ultimately he left thank heavens. Why would the Steelers even want him back when it's obvious to everyone he can't play anymore?
Zeise
12:26
No it was pretty clear he was done by the end of the season.DeCastro was the one they were trying to bring back
Aunt Bessie

The Steelers D line has been working great with a rotation to give a blow for the out coming player, exchange info and also developing the inexperienced man. Why don’t they do that at QB?
Zeise
12:26
Ha. I needed a good laugh, thanks
Amanda
12:27
You are a disgrace! You and Walls set back sports viewing decades. To joke about drinking and promoting that on a sports show is appalling! Why haven't they fired you yet?
Zeise
12:28
Oh boy, Amanda is off her meds and hitting the bottle apparently again! And it is Rich WALSH!! And wow in honor of both Rico and Amanda climbing out from under their rocks we could call this chat Looney Tunes!

do the Pirates begin to bring up the prospects/suspects who are "Major League" ready next year or do we have to continue to deal with this "Years of control" Stuff?Your thoughts.
Zeise
12:29
I hope it is absolutely they start the year with the best 25 coming north. But we have seen nothing from this ownership group that suggests they will begin doing business differently any time soon
Ken
12:30
Who in the heck is this "Killer"brew guy who comes out of no where to block a punt?  Never heard of him.
Zeise
12:31
Miles Killebrew. He was actually a fourth round pick with the Lions and played for them for four years. He signed with the Steelers this year and has already proved his value!
He played at Southern Utah proving you don’t have to be from a big school to have a good career

Wouldn't it be a shame to finally have a legit Super Bowl defense but won't come even close to the Super Bowl because our OLine is such garbage?
Zeise
12:35
If you remember - that was the formula when they beat the Cardinals in the Super Bowl. That O-line was bad but the defense was the best in the league. Two major differences though - that team had Willie Parker and averaged 105 yards rushing per game and this team can’t run the ball and that team had a young Ben Roethlisberger who could scramble around and make plays out of nothing and this team has an old and not very mobile Roethlisberger

Please tell me why in year 4 of Jeff Capel I should be optimistic at all when Champagnie left and the recruiting has left a lot to be desired? This isn't what this fan signed up for when they brought in Capel.
Zeise
12:38
That is a tough but fair question. I would say this - you hope that the development he has done with the young players and the added transfers makes for a deeper roster and that will translate to more wins. I think an NCAA bid may be asking too much but if this isnt at least an NIT year I’m not sure what we are looking at going forward
