Ok let’s get right into it
AA
12:13
What makes anyone think that Haskins will be anything but another Ohio State NFL QB bust?
Zeise
12:14
He shows some potential and I’m not sure what other Ohio State quarterbacks have to do with him. I don’t know if he will be good or not but so far he has looked pretty good so I’m interested to see more
AK
12:14
Do you think Samuels will be cut?
Zeise
12:15
I kind of have a weird feeling it will be Benny Snell that gets sent packing Samuels is somewhat functional as a utility back. My guess is they will use Harris in short yardage
AK
12:17
Do you think the Steelers will use their cap space to extend Watt only?
Zeise
12:18
No they have to use some for their practice squad and don’t be shocked if they also go get a corner off the waiver wire
Geeman
12:18
Hey Paul, what is your opinion on Tuitts situation.  Is he ready to play?
Zeise
12:19
Great question. I will defer to Mike Tomlin who said today he isn’t worried about Tuitt that he will be ready when the season starts

Who wins a football games between Pitt and Penn St. all time greats? A lot of amazing players on both sides of the ball for both teams, but I gotta go with the Panthers, mainly because of Marino.
Zeise
12:19
There is no question Pitt would win given the offensive line and Marino
12:20
I actually think Pitt is maybe the best all-time team in college football. Miami, USC and Notre Dame would also be difficult to deal with

Is Brubaker wearing out or he is just not an MLB quality pitcher?  The arrow seems to be pointing down there.
Zeise
12:22
I think you know the answer. He is a fourth or fifth starter at absolute best case scenario and frankly he probably isn’t even that good. I love these guys who come up to the Pirates and have a little success and everyone goes way overboard predicting great things for them. He is what he is

A few days ago I went to YouTube and watched all of Game Seven of the 1960 World Series. I was in school when it happened and only got to see Maz's homer. One thing that struck me after watching the replay was how much better it was to watch compared to today's game, outcome aside. At most there were 5-6 strikeouts COMBINED. And there was just one broadcaster. Bob Prince and Mel Allen were both in the booth and each did half the game but neither spoke when the other was broadcasting. To me there is so much useless chatter often from color men. Not sure what my point is but you often call yourself an old fart so maybe I'll use your response to see where you fit onto the Old Fart Scale.

The best part of that game besides the Pirates won - it was 10-9 and played in like 2 hours 35 minutes or something. A game like that nowadays would take six hours to play with all the pitching changes and the nonsense in between at bats and pitches. Baseball is very slow and hard to watch right now

12:24
Has Ben ever commented publicly about his friend Randy Fichtner being axed?
Zeise
12:25
No that I can recall. He may have early on but I don’t think so

12:25
With it being reported earlier James Washington said his trade request was a "private matter" what do you think the Steelers could realistically get for him? And do you think that was a factor in not reading him? Hard to believe they'd back the 2nd rounder they spent on him
Zeise
12:26
They would be lucky to get a fifth rounder for him to be honest. Maybe a team that is desperate gives up a fourth rounder but I doubt it
AK
12:26
Haskins doesn’t really have a chance to the #2 QB this year, does he?
Zeise
12:28
I think he does but there are two other factors - trust and Mason Rudolph. Haskins has to prove to coaches his immaturity is behind him and he is all in on football for them to trust him with that job and that takes time. And Rudolph is the incumbent and has played well and done nothing that suggests he should lose his job

If you were a betting man would you say it's lock they keep Harvin over Berry?
Zeise
12:32
Yes. When you can get cheaper at that position you definitely do it. I assume
they will punt Berry some Saturday to showcase him in hopes some teams in need of a punter want to trade for him

If Trevor Bauer is not convicted of anything do you think he'll ever pitch in MLB again? I think having him on a roster would be a PR nightmare for a team. But he'd be innocent and presumably an ace pitcher.
Zeise
12:34
I would think he is fine got this year regardless. But if he is exonerated some team in need of pitcher will sign him next year. I find it interesting the difference in the way the national media has covered Bauer vs DeShaun Watson but that’s a different story for a different day
Ryan
12:34
Do you think we see Haskins or Rudolph after Ben is done Saturday?
Zeise
12:35
The guys that cover the team say based on what they have seen at practice it will go Roethlisberger, Rudolph, Haskins then Dobbs (maybe)

12:38
Would a team like the Pirates really be better with a $100M salary floor or would it just give more money to the Trevor Cahills and Ka'ai Toms of the world and still be bottom feeders?
Zeise
12:39
Yep. Here is why that plan is silly - the players association would counter with scrapping all the pre arbitration years and what not so everyone’s wages would go way up. The Pirates still wouldn’t be able to afford stars

Good Afternoon, Paul!  Is Snell the odd man out at RB?
Zeise
12:39
Yes, I think so. As I said Samuels is a little more versatile and Snell is a one-trick pony
Bernard
12:40
More likely recent draft pick to play consistently at a pro bowl level over the course of his career:  Kendrick Green or Dev Bush?
Zeise
12:40
Kendrick Green. I think Bush will be a good player but not much more
Bernard
12:40
Lots of hand wringing over Kendrick Green suddenly.  Wasn't it short-sighted to expect a college guard to come in and take over starting C at NFL level without any hiccups?  I wasn't a huge fan of the pick (Josh Myers will be a better pro) but seems sentiment has swung too negative now.
Zeise
12:41
I think the hand wringing is coming from media types mostly. It is clear the Steelers are going full speed ahead with him as their starter: I guess time will tell if he is ready

Doesn't it seem that those who say Haskins' immaturity issues that marred his time in D.C. define who he is and the Steelers are wasting their time with him forget that the Steelers once had a very immature QB who wrecked his motorcycle while riding helmetless and got himself into two different sexual assault situations, the second of which involved a college coed at a campus bar?  He eventually grew up and matured - apparently.
Zeise
12:42
That’s exactly what the Steelers are banking on - that he grows up and gets focused on football
Daniel
12:42
It seems like TJ Watt wants to reset the edge rusher market and might be asking the Steelers too much. He is doing this while he is under contract for this season. As the season approaches, it seems like the Steelers are under pressure to do something and might have to give in. What is your assessment of this situation and what do you think will happen? Is there a possibility the Steelers will risk losing him after this season by halting the negotiation for now?
