OK let’s get started

Tuitt's retirement statement included wording about him finishing his education at Notre Dame. Is that what he was doing last year?  Finishing his education?
Zeise
12:10
That was a part of what he was doing. He was also taking care of his family situation

Paul, let's hypothetically assume for the moment that Watson is guilty of the accusations against him.  In that case, the victims have elected to choose direct financial compensation as their preferred path for restitution.  At what point should the NFL consider the possibility that it could be in the best interest of the victims to allow Watson to play so as to maximize the potential restitution available to the victims?

Hi Paul. When do you think the Steelers knew that Tuitt wasn't coming back? If it was before the draft, then it is inexcusable that they did not address the DL better than signing a third-round tweener.
Zeise
12:13
There is an old saying “a DA can get a ham sandwich indicted” The fact that he wasn’t indicted tells me he probably isn’t guilty of any crimes. Now the question the NFL has to figure out is this - he clearly at the very least used bad judgement and wasn’t righteous in every one of these situations. How do you quantify that in terms of a suspension? With Ben Roethlisberger it was six games and then reduced to four games
12:14
I’m having a hard time believing they had no clue this was coming. They probably should have been more aggressive anyway even just to have a plan b

Now that it is prime golf season, have you set any goals for this year? Gonna break into the 60s someplace?
Zeise
12:18
Break into the 60s? I want to try and avoid getting into the 60s on the front 9!!!

Three cheers for the Steelers for the humane way they treated Stephon Tuitt...Given that they have a bit more cap space as a result of his recent retirement, do you see them investing in a quality down defensive lineman? At this stage, who would be available? Thanks!!!
Zeise
12:20
They have to go find a defensive lineman. It won’t be easy at this point but that’s what they have to try and do. Go find some defensive linemen

Is it ok to get just a little bit excited about the quality of baseball these really young Bucs have been playing this past week?
Zeise
12:21
Yes. But just be measured about it. The Pirates go through stretches of relevant baseball every year. And when they hit a little winning streak everyone goes way overboard about it

12:21
Probable Stanley Cup Finals matchup? My bet is Tampa Bay-Colorado.
Zeise
12:22
I agree. They are the best two teams left. I know the Rangers won last night but Tampa had been off for ten days or whatever

Is there a good strategy for taking care of Diontae Johnson? I don't see how you pay him market value (maybe low '20s) when he hasn't proved to be a No. 1 game breaker like Brown was. Do you sign him anyway and then arrange a trade next season if he doesn't produce, or is that too big a gamble?
Zeise
12:25
It is going to be difficult for both sides to get exactly what they want. The Steelers need to offer him a fair deal, maybe even a little more than they want. And he needs to take a little less to make it work. I just don’t see either of those things happening
Mercury
12:25
Did the Steelers let their hopes that Tuitt would return cloud their judgement when not addressing the defensive line more in free agency and the draft?
Zeise
12:26
Well correct me if I’m wrong but they did draft a defensive linemen in the third round

Hi Paul.  I think that the Steelers made a very bad decision when they decided to NOT draft a DE or DT in the first two rounds, because they either thought that Tuitt was coming back, or they were told that by someone else that he was.  What arre your thoughts on this.  Thanks.
Zeise
12:27
They saw quarterback as a higher priority that’s all. I think they should have signed a defensive lineman but when Pickett was available they needed to go get him

Looking at the Steelers depth at outside LB, maybe giving Jack Ham a chance to prove Doug Whaley wrong isn't a bad idea. As strong as this defense is supposed to be, it sure looks paper thin at each level. There are a lot of bodies in the secondary, but how good are they?
Zeise
12:30
I would absolutely agree there isn’t a lot of depth on defense. They are one or two injuries away from being in big trouble on defense

Hi Paul, I wish Stephon Tuitt well in his future personal and professional endeavors.  Do you think he waited until June 1st to notify the Steelers of his decision?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:31
No. I think they probably tried to talk him into playing one more year for a week or two and when it was clear his mind was made up they waited to announce it on June 1st for the cap relief

Hi Paul, I see various Pitt Football predictions in light of Addison's departure are less bullish on Pitt. I see it this way:
Pitt w/l - WVU (win), Tenn (win), WMU (win), RI (win), Va. Tech (win), Duke (win), UNC (loss), UVA (win), Ga. Tech (win), Miami (loss), Louisville (win), Syracuse (win) for 10-2. What do you think?
Zeise
12:32
I like 10-2 for them. They think we will be really good. I don’t think losing Addison changes much about them

12:33
Hey Paul. I think the NBA Championship Finals will be one of the best at least in recent years.  Who are you picking and why?
Zeise
12:33
The Warriors have Curry and that’s why I like them to win. I always go with the team that has star power

Hey Paul.  The Steelers have brought in several receivers with maturity/character issues recently (AB, Martavis, JuJu, Claypool).  That being said, Pickens seems to have huge red flags.  When are we going to learn from our mistakes?  Is there some level of arrogance in thinking that we can "fix" them (which hasn't happened yet)?
Zeise
12:34
I don’t know. Pickens “off field” stuff seems very mild and almost overrated. I think he will be fine

Paul, you have a very common sense attitude toward a lot of things that go on in this world. How have you managed to survive so long in the ultra liberal world of Journalism? The two don't seem to be a good fit. LOL!
Zeise
12:37
Well the thing is I have to be true to what I value and believe. And I always take a common sense approach to every issue. I’m not really extreme on any issue because extremism and tribalism are really dumb ways to see the world. I like practical, common sense solutions and don’t like to overreact to thints

If the  Steelers had known that Tuitt would retire, do you think they would have drafted his potential replacement in the 1st or 2nd round?  Under Khan and Wiedl, is a trade an option?  Thanks Paul.
Zeise
12:39
I don’t think so, I think Pickett was available and that’s who they were going to get. I don’t think that would have changed had they knew Tuitt was retiring

Paul who do you like in the NBA Finals? I think it's a great matchup.
Zeise
12:40
Again, I think the Warriors are better and have the most star power. I watch the Celtics and usually come alway underwhelmed. They almost lost to an undermanned Heat team

You haven't retired, so I guess you didn't bet the house on the Pirates the last three nights?
