Well it is about that time!

Hey Paul, would you trade 2 or 3 first rd picks to move up and take Pickett?   Is he THAT good, or does he just look that good in this weak QB class?
Zeise
12:05
No. No way. He is very good. He is likely to be a good NFL quarterback. He isn’t THAT good though. And this team needs so much giving up any pick is a bad move

Hi Paul. Like you I did not think Ben returning this season was a good idea and now it looks like the Steelers will suffer the worst of all worlds: No playoffs, plus a mediocre draft pick. But, the scene Monday night at Heinz Field kind of made me change my mind. It was truly memorable, and Ben had the sendoff that he deserved.
Zeise
12:07
They could have had that scene last year and been one year further ahead in their rebuild

What is your best memory of Ben Roethlisberger from your perspective as a member of the media?
Zeise
12:09
Just his maturity. He used to be real prickly and standoffish with the media and acted like it was a chore to talk to us. Now he really is genuinely thoughtful and engaged and gives real answers

I feel bad for the Patti kid after he went out so early in the Peach Bowl with the shoulder injury. It looked like he was going to have a pretty solid game. How damaging was that for his future at QB at Pitt?
Zeise
12:11
He was facing long odds to be the starter before that. But that was his chance to really make a statement and he got it taken away

12:11
Hey Paul is it just me or is Gentry perhaps our best all around TE going into 2022?
Zeise
12:12
It is just you. He is the best blocker perhaps but Freiermuth is their best tight end
Gene
12:12
top draft pick next year OL DL CB or QB?
Zeise
12:12
Offensive line

Do you think that in 1969, if John Madden had accepted Chuck Noll's invitation to be the DC of the Steelers before eventually landing the Head Coaching Job of the Raiders that the Steelers would've won more than 4 Super Bowls in the 70's?
Or do you think it played out well that The Steelers still won 4, had a good rivalry with the Raiders and John Madden started his legacy?
Zeise
12:13
I have no idea how it would have all played out.. those are fun hypotheticals

Hey, Paul.  Is Stepanski an idiot, or does he have an agenda in handling Mayfield & that offense?  Leaving Mayfield in to get killed by Watt last week.  Not using Chubb as a battering ram, especially the last few games is coaching malpractice.
Zeise
12:15
I thought Stefanski was a great fit for Cleveland and had done a great job with that team. But he was horrific this year at handling that offense and his play calling often made no sense. Mayfield was bad this year but Stefanski was worse

Paul -- Happy New Year! Hope you made it through the challenging time of the holidays ok.

What's one underrated sports event/time of year that you always look forward to?

Thanks.

I tell you what I love - championship Sunday. I love the championship Sunday more than the Super Bowl. Two games back to back with the best four teams playing. I sit in front of the TV all day with a few cigars and adult beverages and don’t move

Consensus opinion is that the Steelers must improve their OL in the off-season, and I agree. However, I am now of the opinion that WR is almost as big of a hole, especially if they lose JuJu to FA. That would would leave Johnson and Claypool as the only WRs under contract in 22. Johnson has improved but is mistake-prone, while Claypool has seriously underperformed in year two. Do you think drafting a WR in round one or two is on the table?
Zeise
12:17
Absolutely. They need to upgrade that position and in a hurry
12:19
I’m listening to my colleague Joe Starkey on the air right now talk about how he would take Baker Mayfield for the Steelers next year over Mason Rudolph. I love Joe but he is out of his mind

Is Kendrick Green the problem with the running game? The new guy looks so much better and others don't have to cover for Kendrick. Since he played guard in college , maybe he should be moved there?
Zeise
12:22
I think there are many problems and he is one of them. He is just not ready and was in over his head. And it also concerns me that linemen are saying this was the first week they included tight ends and running backs in the meetings about the run game. That tells me everything I needed to know about how unqualified Adrian Klemm was

Hello, Mr. Z.  Will my beloved NFL get a black eye if a top QB is on the covid list during the playoffs?
Zeise
12:23
I think the NFL has done everything in its power to make sure the teams in the playoffs are as close to full strength as possible. It won’t shock me if they go to even different protocols to make sure that doesn’t happen
Jackson
12:23
If the offensive line has a good run game this week and Green doesn’t play center is he the problem?  I’m thinking that Green should have been benched along time ago.
Zeise
12:23
As i said, he is a big part of the problem

The vast majority of Pitt fans think it's a forgone conclusion that Jeff Capel will be fired. They're 5-9 but if you look at their games since the UMBC loss, they are very close to being 9-5 or 10-4. Last night was one of their best games of the season and getting Horton back helped. Am I crazy to think that Capel will be back next season, especially if they keep playing the way they're playing?
Zeise
12:25
I think there is less than 5-10 percent chance Capel is fired. He is going to get one more year. I suppose if they don’t win again and start getting blown out there would be discussions but right now there is nobody over at Pitt thinking a change is needed at this point
12:26
Heather hired Jeff. She didn’t hire Kevin Stallings. Her investment in Capel’s success is great. She isn’t firing him unless it becomes a complete disaster
Michael
12:26
What is your SB prediction? I say Bills v. Bucs.
Zeise
12:29
I think the Packers are playing so well right now they will be tough to beat in Green Bay. And someone has to beat Patrick Mahomes and I just don’t see that happening. So I like Green Bay and Kansas City

Who would you start at the two ILB spots if all options were available? Also, with as bad as this WR group has looked, I think I rather see one-armed Juju out there Sunday than whoever is planned to play.
Zeise
12:30
Especially now that Diontae Johnson is on the COVID list! As for ILb I would say Schobert and Bush probably are your best options

Fond or otherwise, give us your most memorable moment covering the sports scene in South Jersey.

It has to be covering that huge Vineland-Millville football rivalry game!

What’s your favorite memory of Ben?
Zeise
12:34
It has to be the Santonio Holmes Super Bowl touchdown pass

Have we seen anything to indicate that Mr. Haskins can provide a real training camp challenge to Mr. Rudolph this summer?
