One of these weeks, when I have the time
I'll try to answer these questions in rhyme

....but not this week.  We'll take a minute for the questions to file in, and then launch.
C. Young
8:19
Texas struggling near deadline, who do I need to sell off?
Mark P
8:21
Gray, Mahle, and the other impending free agents are the most logical names to go.  Chris Martin perhaps as well, if he agrees to get dealt away from home in his farewell season.
Martin doesn't have no-trade protection, to be clear, but the Rangers probably check with him first just out of respect
Phineas Gage
8:23
Marky Mark, why in the world are the Dodgers not starting Kim EVERY SINGLE DAY??? The guy is a hitting MACHINE! I have been around the game many years and it does not make a shred of sense..
Mark P
8:23
It's a tough lineup to break into, especially since LA hasn't given up on Conforto turning things around

8:23
Do you have any trade deadline ideas for Cleveland to bolster the roster ?
Mark P
8:23
For what seems like the umpteenth year in a row, the outfield is a big target area.
Luis Robert
8:24
Would the Reds consider pairing Luis with Elly to make a run at the playoffs?  What would it cost them?
Mark P
8:26
Robert's trade value is hard to evaluate since he's hitting so poorly.  If you're the Reds, do you even consider Robert an upgrade at this point, notwithstanding Cincy's own outfield issues?  There's no such thing as buying low here, since the White Sox aren't yet ready to lower their asking price on what they hoped (or thought was) a chief trade chip
Rick
8:26
What does Addison Barger’s line look like at the end of the season?
Mark P
8:28
Barger suddenly turning into Mike Schmidt has been a delightful development for the Jays.  He's certainly hitting well enough to keep a spot in the lineup, even when the team gets everyone healthy.

Do I think he'll keep this up the entire year?  Probably some regression is inevitable, but his secondary metrics don't indicate any unusual amount of luck.
Adrian Houser
8:29
If “Doogie” continues pitching like this for the White Sox would he be worth anything this summer?
Mark P
8:30
For sure, pitching always attracts attention.  He can bring a lottery-ticket type of prospect back to the White Sox, which is still a decent return for a guy signed on a flier
Lemon Drop

Little Giants vs The Sandlot..Who ya got?
Mark P
8:31
With all due respect to the great Rick Moranis and Ed O'Neill, this is a baseball chat.  Sandlot all day every day.
Mullins
8:31
Mullins would make sense in Cleveland, right?
Mark P
8:32
Most definitely.
Corbin C.
8:32
How devastating would it be for the Diamondbacks to lose Corbin Burnes to a significant injury? Where would they go from here?
Mark P
8:34
Lovullo and Burnes didn't sound too worried (just moderately worried) in the postgame comments, so this might just be some minor inflammation or something.

If Burnes did suddenly need Tommy John surgery or something, that might be enough to get the D'Backs turning towards selling at the deadline and reloading for 2026.  It's not like Hazen would immediately start moving guys next week or anything, but given the unlikelihood that a Burnes-less D'Backs would be able to dig their way out of the hole they're already in, Arizona could certainly move some people come July 31
O’Neil Cruz
8:34
I know the Pirates are saying no now, but should they entertain offers on Cruz if they can get four prospects?
Mark P
8:35
If a team makes an absurd offer, the Pirates will obviously listen on anything.  But in general, they're not moving Cruz for anything less than a king's ransom.
Mariners
8:37
What is the biggest area of need for the Mariners to make the playoffs?  Thanks.
Mark P
8:38
A healthy pitching staff and more hitting
Though at the moment, riddle me this, Seattle fans....are you more confident in the M's lineup or in the current rotation?
TheDrifter
8:38
What do you think of Noah Cameron's ROY chances?
Mark P
8:39
Jacob Wilson's probably got this one locked up already, but what an amazing start for Cameron.  He's been huge in helping KC overcome these rotation injuries, and putting himself in position for a future rotation role (at least in 2026, if not sooner)
Dodgers
8:41
Are we good enough to make another run to the World Series or should we upgrade this summer?  What players would be available that we could get to bolster our chances?
Mark P
8:42
Overcoming a mountain of pitching injuries is nothing new for the Dodgers, yet obviously it's hard to thread that needle time and time again, no matter how great the offense

The Dodgers in their present form can certainly still be top contenders, but they need pitching.  Some of the injured guys will (should?!) be back, but LA will still be obtaining another starter at the deadline
Guards
8:43
If the Angels fall out of it, would ward be available? What would he cost?
Mark P
8:45
IF the Angels fall out of it??

Ward has another year of arb control remaining, and teams might look more at his BABIP than his bottom-line numbers and conclude that a change of scenery would turn his luck around.

On paper, he's a natural trade candidate, though the Angels have traditionally been hesitant to move guys like this.  If Arte Moreno okays the deal and isn't focused on the Angels trying to win in 2026, Ward will get a lot of attention.  Or, a lot more attention, as he has popped up in trade rumors for a while now
Reds
8:46
True or false...we get a big bat and we are a force to be reckoned with.
Mark P
8:47
I'd say a couple of big bats are needed.  But the bright side for the Reds fans is that the rotation has kept the team in the hunt, so Cincy is still within striking distance if the slumping bats wake up, or if they obtain someone new
JeffyM
8:49
How is it that the best version of the Blue Jays involves both Santander and Gimenez NOT being in the lineup?
Mark P
8:52
Turns out that removing two sub-replacement level bats can help turn an offense around.

I'm still confident that Santander can get back to form, and his IL stint might be a reset for him to get healthy and get his season on track.  Gimenez is a trickier issue --- this is going on three seasons now of subpar hitting.
8:53
Not that guys like Clement or Barger are proven commodities by any means, but both seem to have more upside right now than Gimenez, which is an issue given the size of Gimenez's contract
Rockies
8:53
Do you see hope of winning more than 40 games for this bunch?   What does it say about the ownership?
Mark P
8:54
It's been another week, and amazingly, the "Rockies have won fewer games than the 2024 Broncos" factoid remains true.

I don't see things getting better, so Chicago's record may only be lasting one season.  In theory, this epic disaster of a year will get ownership to entirely shake things up, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Tampa Rays
8:56
Do we have some money to splash around since we are a winning team?  Could we get a Ryan McMahon or Luis Robert if the price is right?
Mark P
8:56
As noted earlier, Robert is slumping so badly that he's cratering his trade value.  And McMahon is both too expensive for the Rays, and why would they get McMahon to take at-bats away from Junior at 3B?
Matthew
8:57
The Phillies look lost without Harper.   Should Dombrowski go out and acquire an impact bat or is bullpen a bigger priority?
