Let's open the floor to questions!
Mark G
1:39
Will Jordan Walker make the Opening Day roster?
Mark P
1:40
I lean towards no, since the Cardinals have a lot of other OF candidates and because jumping Walker from Double-A to the majors is pretty aggressive.  The Cards certainly don't want to do anything that would harm Walker's progression, so some time in Triple-A might be worthwhile for his defense if nothing else.

Now, if Walker hits .500 for the rest of the spring, it'll be a bigger question. At the very least, it seems like a question of how much (or little) Triple-A time Walker will need before he hits the bigs

Which Orioles prospects are untouchable in a trade this July?
Mark P
1:43
Considering how conservative the front office has been in "go for it" mode thus far....everyone in the top 10?

But, if Baltimore is in contention come the deadline, I could see the O's moving someone along the bottom of their top 10 to make a significant add.  Obviously guys like Henderson, Rodriguez, Holliday, Kjerstad, Westburg, Cowser aren't going anywhere unless there's a really intriguing offer on the table, or unless the Orioles' internal valuation of those guys changes
1:44
And of course, a lot can happen between now and July, since a prospect list is forever fluid.  Maybe more names emerge, making the O's more willing to move one of the bigger names in their system

Marlins over 80 wins?
Mark P
1:45
Seems a bit much, considering the tough NL East and the many questions within Miami's lineup

Why did Moustakis have to settle for a minor league deal? Since the Reds are paying the freight, I assumed he’d get a major league deal somewhere, especially in Colorado.
Mark P
1:46
Moustakas hasn't been very good the last two years, remember, so there might not have been much of a market for a 34-year-old coming off two negative-fWAR years.  If Moustakas doesn't break camp with the Rockies, the team might agree to release him and let him seek out another opportunity elsewhere

Do you think the Giants can get a meaningful MLB piece if they bundled Luciano with 2-3 other prospects not named Harrison or Schmitt?
Mark P
1:47
They'd get a meaningful piece for Luciano alone, but....why would the Giants do this?  Luciano is one of the keys of their future.

Can we get a poll on the Marlins question?
Mark P
1:49
Judging by some of the responses in the queue, a poll would be pretty one-sided in the "no" category
Mariner fan on the ledge
1:49
My theory on why the Mariners don't spend $$$ on free agency - hitters don't want to come to Seattle because T-Mobile is a tough park to hit in and the M's don't want to overpay to bring hitters here. Still, do you think they did enough to keep the Angels and the Rangers behind them in the standings, and are they gearing up for a run at Ohtani next offseason?
Mark P
1:51
Robbie Ray is evidence that the Mariners are willing to spend on free agents, but of course, he isn't a hitter.

If the money is right, free agents will tend to overlook ballpark concerns, and it's not like T-Mobile is drastically more pitcher-friendly than other stadiums that attract big-name FA talent.  It could simply be that Dipoto prefers trades as a tactic.
As for Ohtani, it'd be surprising if the Mariners weren't in the mix.

Why hasn't Austin Martin been able to jump up to mlb? Is he just not good. I thought he was the best player in the draft?
Mark P
1:54
Martin has had to deal with injuries, and the unexpected change of a trade to a new organization.  The early returns aren't great, but it's way too early in his career to write him off yet

If minnesota doesn't do something other be 90 win team,  do you think they would make changes to the front office and manager?
Mark P
1:55
I mean, 89 wins would be a pretty nice result, no?  I would imagine that gets Baldelli an extension, and maybe Falvey/Levine as well.

Chances Chisholm is the Daulton Varsho of 2023?
Mark P
1:56
Asking for Jazz to be a Gold Glove-caliber CF is a bit much, but if he's even a decent center fielder, that would be a great result for the Marlins.

Hi Mark, by the end of the year where do you see Kelenic? Above average outfielder, below average outfielder plantooning with Pollack, in the minors or with another team?
Mark P
1:59
Kelenic's performance in Spring Training has been very promising, so I'll be optimistic and say that he'll establish himself as at least an MLB regular in 2023

What do the White Sox do with Mike Clevinger now?
Mark P
2:00
There's not much they can do until MLB concludes its investigation, and I would assume the Sox are already making preparations to fill the rotation spot if Clevinger is suspended
J Profar

Am I the biggest number 1 prospect bust in sports history?
Mark P
2:02
Not even close.  There have been plenty of elite prospects who completely flopped at the MLB level, or didn't even make the majors whatsoever.

Profar has posted multiple seasons of at least average MLB-level play.  He's not a star by any means, but he's carved out a decent career for himself.

How good do you think the Phillies are this year?
Mark P
2:04
They'll be contenders again for a playoff spot, but a lot might be riding on how soon Harper is back healthy, and how close he is to prime Harper form when he does return

The Rangers OF is a huge mess. Adolis Garcia seems like a good CFer being asked to play a corner spot. For me, I would expect more from a corner OF spot than a low to mid .700 OPS. The rest seems like AAA guys or wash outs.  Would you agree that it seems to be a bit of a stretch to expect them contend with such weak options in OF and at DH?
Mark P
2:06
While I do think Texas could use another outfielder, I'm higher on their overall picture than you are.  Taveras is a strong defender, Grossman was a smart addition, and it makes sense why the Rangers would see what they can get from the Duran/Smith/Frazier combo
2:07
Now, would a Bryan Reynolds really make that team look a lot more like playoff contenders?  Sure, but the Rangers also have a lot of interesting youngsters they want to see on the field

I really need to ask a good question, because this name will for sure get your attention. Hmmmm. If Walker forces the Cardinals' hand, do they trade one of their OF'ers or enjoy having the depth. The Dodgers could really use one of their good young OFers
Mark P
2:09
Not out of the question, but the Cards would probably first try to make a lower-level Burleson or Yepez trade before exploring a bigger swap of any of the O'Neill/Lars/Carlson trio.

Is McCutchen working to be a trade candidate at the deadline? Or is his value in leadership more than anything the bucs could flip him for?
Mark P
2:12
I'd imagine the Pirates wouldn't move McCutchen unless he gave his okay for a trade, so it would depend on what Cutch's wishes are come deadline time.  From what he has said, it seems like he is happy being a leader and mentor to the young Bucs in the latter stage of his career
