I think this might be up and running. I guess we shall see!
Well, I can see that anyway. Going to take that as a sign that I have indeed conquered technology. Now need to figure out if this thing's actually open for questions!
2:08
Heyyyyy here they come. Woohoo! Let's go.

Thoughts on Latos to WSox?
Steve Adams
2:09
Pretty stunned that the deal is $3MM without any sort of incentives. There are tons of reports of Latos' clubhouse persona being a negative, and I've heard from a couple execs who were very averse to the thought of adding him to their clubhouse, but I still expected a bigger guarantee. Love it for the Sox.

I am! I really did it! Hooray!

Do you know if Yulieski Gourriel played more 2B or 3B in Cuba ? Thanks
Steve Adams
2:11
Quite a bit more at third base, which is where he seems to profile best in the eyes of Ben Badler (who, to this point, has put out the most in the way of scouting reports on the Brothers Gurriel). Also worth noting that they do seem to have changed the spelling of their last name from Gourriel to Gurriel, for whatever reason.

Any moves left for Rangers?
Steve Adams
2:12
Ahhh gotta check usernames more before publishing, ha. Oh well. At least it was childish and not totally obscene! I don't think they're doing anything beyond minor league signings from here on out.

Any chance Brian Dozier increases his batting average above .250 this year?
Steve Adams
2:14
He's a career .240 hitter, so no reason he can't. Batting average is such a volatile stat that any swing in 20-30 points in a given year is reasonable. Anyone can have a random BABIP spike for a year and boost the average. He needs to learn to hit the ball to the opposite field more consistently if he wants to genuinely increase the skills driving his batting average though. He's a dead-pull hitter and struggles with pitches on the outer third from everything I've seen while watching him regularly as a Minnesota native.

Were you a fan of Donaldson signing for 2 years at 28 mil? Seems like he could have gotten more through arb, no?
Steve Adams
2:16
Midpoint between his filed number and the team's submission was about $11.6MM. At 2/29, he basically took 11.6 this year and 17.4 next year. That's not too bad. Maybe he could've gotten a million or two more with another huge year, but he also protected himself against a serious injury or something. I thought the deal was fine, and he gets to avoid the stress of arb next year as well. That peace of mind has value.

Will O's buckle and give up #14 to sign Gallardo?
Steve Adams
2:18
I think if they were going to do it, they'd have done it by now. As I wrote earlier in today's Mailbag, I'd rather see them add Fowler or Jackson anyway. Either is a bigger upgrade over their current RF options than Gallardo is over their SP options. I would've liked to see Baltimore give Latos this 1/3 then sign Fowler as opposed to going after Yovani.

Does he ultimately even get signed before the draft pick compensation drops off? Uggghhh. He deserves better. Great teammate/great clubhouse guy/ picked a poor time for such a crappy season.
Steve Adams
2:19
Yeah I think he'll sign before the season starts. We're nearing Spring Training, and there's always an injury or two that creates a hole for a yet-unsigned free agent.

Angels making any moves?
Steve Adams
2:21
At this point there's no reason the expect they will. They've very, very clearly not going to exceed the luxury tax. Maybe if they can get Austin Jackson to agree to something crazy cheap like $4MM on a one-year deal or something, they'd do that, but that's almost certainly not happening. This is the team they're going to go with, it seems.

Would you give Yuliesky a three year deal? seems like some are worried his skills are goning to go down with age
Steve Adams
2:23
Without having any sort of advance knowledge of what, specifically, his market will look like, I'd take the over on a three-year deal. He's the best player in Cuba, and even if he'll probably be 32 by the time he signs, it's not that difficult to see some team signing him through his age-35 or age-36 season. Maybe he'd take three with a one-year opt-out as a means of possibly increasing his earning power after a good one-year showing in the Majors, but that's all obscenely hypothetical. He hasn't even been declared a free agent by MLB yet.

If white sox sign Fowler who leads off- Eaton or Fowler? Does other guy bat 2nd then?
Steve Adams
2:24
Not going to lie, I think that decision would be largely inconsequential. They're both good hitters with a little power, some speed and plenty of OBP skills.

Where does Uribe End UP????
Steve Adams
2:25
Good thing that's not how I spell my first name, or we could be having a seriously life-altering moment for me. I think he goes to Cleveland, though that's just a guess at this point.

Are the Rockies officially out on Gallardo?
Steve Adams
2:26
I don't think they were ever really "in" on him in the first place. Jeff Bridich all but said that Gallardo's agents continually called him, he finally chatted with them a bit, and then reports were suddenly saying "Rockies in on Gallardo!"
Your username reminds me! I need to feed my own cat. (No, his name is not Pete.) One second.

Aaaand we're back.

Pirates, sadly done? Banking on Glasnow and Tailon with that sad back end of the rotation?
Steve Adams
2:30
Yeah I don't love the thought of Jeff Locke and Ryan Vogelsong making 40 percent of their starts, either. I think they'd be a good fit for one of the upside guys -- Lincecum, perhaps. Billingsley. Hell even Kyle Lohse. I'd be a little surprised if they didn't at least grab a veteran with somewhat of a track record on a Minor League deal.

I inherited him when I moved in with the girlfriend! Not my fault! But also worth it. She's pretty swell.

So with Clippard off the board, now what do we do?
Steve Adams
2:32
Honestly? Be happy your division rival gave $12.25MM to a guy that is a horrible fit in their park. I don't like that deal at all for Arizona. They traded for one of the game's most extreme fly-ball relievers two years ago in Addison Reed, and when he bombed, dumped him on the Mets. Now, they sign one of the few even MORE extreme fly-ball pitchers to pitch in their homer-happy home stadium. Clippard's velocity, walk rate, and strikeout rate all went the wrong way last season, too. I wouldn't have touched him at 2/12, personally.
2:34
As for the Dodgers -- there are already tons of options in camp there, some of whom I like. I know they got into some trouble with the bullpen last year, but there are some quality arms in there that have the upside to form a nice group. Garcia, Hatcher, Blanton, Howell

More like if our landlord let us.
