Hey everyone, hope you're enjoying your evening!

With E Duran's production since Seagers injury and the weak class of FA S/S's this year, what are the chances the Rangers dangle him in trade talks?
Anthony Franco
6:02
I don't think Durán's getting traded. He'd draw interest but Texas can rotate him through left field and DH while bouncing around the infield in a depth capacity
6:03
And there are enough concerns about his plate discipline (still) that while he'd be an interesting trade chip, I don't think he's headlining a return for an elite player with multiple seasons of club control
Cuban Missile Crisis
6:03
Why do the Royals continue with the Scott Barlow-at-closer experiment? Chapman's been their most efficient reliever, so why not give him the closer role again?
Anthony Franco
6:05
Barlow's been great in the ninth inning over the past couple seasons. Chapman's having a ton of success in the setup role right now. I see the argument for swapping them but don't think it's all that meaningful
Only so much to be done with divvying up relief innings on a 10-27 anyways. I think both Barlow and Chapman are getting traded two months from now regardless (Chapman for sure)
Arraez of Sunshine
6:06
Was the start of my season to be expected? Or am I going above and beyond? Do I come down to earth at all (hopefully not!)?
Anthony Franco
6:06
We haven't had a .400 hitter since Ted Williams. Arraez isn't doing that
6:07
Like .350 with an OBP over .400 feels doable though. He's the best pure contact hitter in the sport in my view

Any idea what is happening with Michael Brantley? At first they thought he would be ready by the beginning of the season. Then he left Spring Training for “personal” reasons for a few weeks. He goes to rehab and plays a bit, is supposed to join the big club - and now Dusty says he is not swinging his bat but may be back soon. Huh?
Anthony Franco
6:09
The Astros are frustratingly cagy with every injury. Not sure what they feel like they're gaining by treating injuries the way they do in the NHL -- every other MLB team is more forthcoming -- but it's impossible to get a read on pretty much any of their health situations

In the likely event Mash Mervis gets hot and Hosmer gets the boot from Chicago, is Houston a viable landing spot given Abreu's recent struggles? Any other viable landing spots?
Anthony Franco
6:10
Hosmer shouldn't be a team's primary first baseman at this point. Don't think the Astros are better off giving any of Abreu's reps to Hosmer even if the Cubs cut him loose
Giants fan
6:10
Who do you think will become the Giant's face of the franchise? Doesn't have to be next years free agency.
Anthony Franco
6:12
Closest player on the current roster is Logan Webb but I'm not sure he's quite at that level. "Face of the franchise" also tends to be a position player for me, although I guess it doesn't have to be
I do think whoever it'll be is coming via free agency in the next year or two though
Whit's End
6:13
Assuming that the Blue Jays choose to buy out the mutual option (18 million!!! in 2024) for 500k, and assuming Merrifield and or his agent don't hold this against Toronto, what are the chance Whit comes back to the Great White North next year and what would a contract look like?  Would 1 year 6 million, 2  years 10 million seem reasonable at this stage of the game?
Anthony Franco
6:14
I'd go a little above that. Jean Segura and Aledmys Díaz both got two years in the $14-18MM range, Jace Peterson a little below that. I like Whit around $7MM annually for two years if he keeps his current pace all season

with the Contreras situation in St. Louis, will Juan Yepez ever get a shot at regular playing time? Does he hold much value as a trade piece?
Anthony Franco
6:15
Yepez feels like a guy who gets moved in a minor trade this summer. Not much value but they could probably get a lottery ticket prospect back
6:16
He's a decent hitter but the complete lack of defensive value makes him a tough roster fit for an acquiring team too
Nationals Fan
6:16
I watch a lot of different teams but tend to avoid the Astros because ever since the cheating stuff came out, seeing the Astros have any modicum of on-field success makes me want to vomit and scream into a pillow all at the same time. So as someone who hasn't been watching the Astros, can you explain to me why in the world they're only a .500 team so far? On paper they still seemed like a pretty easy World Series pick going into the season.
Anthony Franco
6:17
José Abreu has been horrible and they're down 3/5 of the rotation plus Altuve to injury right now
6:18
The lineup should be fine once Altuve gets back, even if Abreu's still not hitting at peak level. Rotation depth is concerning, though, since Luis Garcia is having Tommy John surgery and not coming back
Weird Trades
6:18
Would STL consider one of AZ young arms (Jameson, Nelson, Henry) and Walker for Goldschmidt and a mid tier pitching prospect? Assuming they stay as horrendous as they are? Be a weird reverse trade, but get Goldy back in a race where he matters. Can he veto a trade back to AZ? He left on sour terms right?
Anthony Franco
6:18
Cardinals aren't trading Goldy
Washingtonian
6:19
Out of the Nationals' various depth pitchers (Jake Irvin, Chad Kuhl, Paolo Espino, Cory Abbott, Joan Adon, Jackson Rutledge, and anyone else you want to throw in there), who do you think will have pitched the most MLB innings by the end of the season? And is that the same as which of them will be the most effective?
Anthony Franco
6:20
José Urena probably gets a look at some point too. I think Irvin and Urena will wind up getting the bulk of the work this year
6:21
Not especially bullish on any of the group but I'm kind of kind of intrigued by Jackson Rutledge, who's pitching pretty well in Double-A so far
Farhandrew Zaidman
6:22
True or false: Dodgers are actually better off with Stone or Miller in the rotation over Thor while he's dealing with the finger thing.
Anthony Franco
6:22
I think Gavin Stone would be better than Syndergaard right now, yeah
Around the Diamond
6:22
If you were a GM and you needed a SS going into this coming offseason, who would be your first target? The list of free agents you guys just published on that position is absolutely dreadful.
Anthony Franco
6:24
If I'm mandated to sign one of those guys, Amed Rosario's the guy by default. If we're including trade possibilities, Tim Anderson's the obvious one. Maybe the Marlins would listen on Jon Berti as a stopgap type?
Buffy
6:24
If Baltimore was willing to give up some of their higher end talent, who are some SP1-SP3 types who would be available to them?
Anthony Franco
6:26
Have to let the next couple months play out still. Shane Bieber could be available if the Guardians are floundering. Not out of the question we get to a point where the Phillies or Cardinals listen to offers on Aaron Nola/Jordan Montgomery, since they're both impending free agents. Lucas Giolito could get traded
6:27
None of those teams are pulling the plug yet, but there'll be talent out there depending on how the standings look on July 30
the Last A's fan
6:27
Esteury-noda-Rooker-Bleday looking good, No?  Alas, they cannot Score enough to compensate for the Triple-A level pitching serving up Batting practice every game ..........
Anthony Franco
6:28
Still really early on Bleday. Ruiz looks about what I'd expected -- elite baserunner with next to no power and barely any walks. Jury's still kind of out on him defensively but he's interesting
6:29
I buy Rooker and Noda as above-average hitters who do enough offensively to be decent role players despite the lack of defensive value. They're good finds for the acquisition cost, Noda especially as a Rule 5 pick
