Good evening, feel free to submit your questions and I'll get going shortly

With the Giants stacked with starting pitchers and the Yankees in need of some starting arms, would Oswald Peraza be available for say, Alex Wood?
Simon Hampton
6:06
The Giants are not getting Oswald Peraza for Alex WOod

Is Juan Soto overrated?  I hope you say no!

6:06
What's happening with Soto?
Simon Hampton
6:08
It's early days, but a 4-29 start is hardly ideal, nor were his numbers for the Padres after being traded.

At the end of the day, it's still far too early in the season to be legitimately concerned by him and his long term outlook remains fantastic (he's only 24!). I do wonder what a full season of the numbers he put up in San Diego last year (~.775 OPS) would do to contract negotiations

Are the pirates for real?
Simon Hampton
6:10
They're not winning that division, but I think they're a much more capable ball club than they have been in recent years. I still have questions about the rotation and bullpen, but they're solid enough and have a few prospects on the way this season. I think they'll finish in the 70-75 win range
Bill
6:11
What game do you have on in the background?
Simon Hampton
6:12
I had the Mets on and just put the Yankees on, I live in New York so tend to watch more of those two teams
Bill
6:12
Most likely to miss the playoffs? Yankees/Astros/Blue Jays
Simon Hampton
6:12
I'll go with the Yankees here
162-0
6:13
How many wins do the Rays end up win?
Simon Hampton
6:14
90ish? Great start but plenty of teams go on eight game winning streaks throughout the season. It stands out when it's the first eight games though. I've got them third in the AL East behind the Yankees and Blue Jays, but I could see them getting past the Yankees in particular

What is one rule you would like to be tweaked? Personally, I’d like the pitch clock to be gone during the 8th or 9th inning and eliminate the ghost runner. What about you?
Simon Hampton
6:15
The ghost runner. Seems uncessary with these faster games.

Disagree with you on the 8th or 9th inning. What about a 7-2 game? I could maybe get behind giving teams a couple of timeouts in the last few innings or something. But I like the quick pace

Chances with Ohtani signing with Halos?
Simon Hampton
6:17
I think there's a chance. There's other teams out there I like a bit more (looking at the Dodgers in particular), but I don't think it's a certainty that he's leaving the Angels

Who has the better shot at AL MVP, Devers or Duvall?
Simon Hampton
6:17
Just give it to Duvall already
Gwynnyrd Skynyrd
6:21
Besides Shohei and Urias... who are the top FAs this coming offseason?
Simon Hampton
6:21
Chapman, Bader, Happ. A handful of very good players, rather than stars coming up. Scherzer could opt out as well. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023-24-mlb-free-agents
Soto
6:22
I don’t see how he could be worth whatever contract he’s asking for. Even if he’s an elite hitter, which he hasn’t really shown since 2021, he’s a below average fielder with horrendous speed as a 24 year old. Top players need to have a well rounded game like Betts, Machado, Lindor, Harper, etc. If you sign him to a 10+ year deal, are you going to be okay paying a DH that type of money in year 4 of that deal?
Simon Hampton
6:25
He was stung by a low BABIP but was still excellent for the Nats first half of last year. It's an interesting debate, and if you're giving out a $400MM+ contract you want to be pretty certain of what you're getting, so I do understand some concern creeping in. One of the big advantages for him justifying such a huge contract is of course the fact that he'll be entering his age-26 season when he's a free agent
Cardinals
6:27
this pitching staff is starting to look like a roller coaster of emotions, what can they do right now to bring some stability? Or is this just opening week kinks?
Simon Hampton
6:29
Sure are a lot of questions about the Cardinals pitching which, if you look through their rotation numbers, is justified. End of the day, they're 1.5 times through their rotation, so it is far too early to write them off. I certainly expect Montgomery and Mikolas to settle into their dependable selves, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals are aggressive if they're struggling in a a month or so
Brewers
6:30
Corbin Burnes is my favorite player. I hate to say this but if we can get rid of Yelich by trading Burnes, we should make the trade
Simon Hampton
6:30
I think the haul of prospects Burnes would bring back is a better path to extending the Brewers' window than using him to shed $26MM annually off the books. If the Brewers are willing to trade Burnes, they should maximize their return and keep Yelich out of it
Philly guy
6:31
The Phillies are in need of a real 1st basemen now. Kody Clemens isn't the answer.  Will they go get one?
Simon Hampton
6:32
At some stage, for sure. They weren't really left with a lot of time to sort that out though with the unfortunate timing of Hoskins' injury. Would expect them to make a move at some point though
James
6:32
I think the O’s are a dark horse candidate for a Corbin Burnes trade. I think they’ll need to be in it come July and the Brewers will need to be underperforming.
Simon Hampton
6:33
I don't think the O's will be in it enough to give up the haul that Burnes would require
Matt B
6:33
What is the likelihood Bryan Reynolds get traded even if the Pirates are close to .500 at the deadline?
Simon Hampton
6:33
I think they'll get the extension done
6:34
If they don't it's almost certain he'll be traded at the deadline
MostlyToasty1
6:35
The Orioles have such a depth of talent coming up soon on the fielding side. Do they move someone like Stowers and other pieces for an arm at some point?
Simon Hampton
6:35
Baltimore will surely look to beef up the rotation a bit more than they did this past winter. I'm unconvinced it'll be at the deadline, but expect, and hope, they'll be a bit more aggressive in the winter
Ang T
6:36
The Rays have to win the AL East at this pace, right?
Simon Hampton
6:37
At this pace they will finish 162-0, which I suspect would be good enough to win the AL East
John
6:37
Scherzer struggles concerning considering his age? Haven’t watched, but the results have obviously been bad
