Hey everyone, hope you're all having a good evening!
5:59
ICYMI this morning, we've got three-time All-Star Dan Haren coming on for a chat 90 minutes from now
6:00
A bunch of people submitted questions here that were obviously meant for Haren -- I in fact did not have 11 straight seasons with 30+ MLB starts -- so keep an eye out for that once we publish the link a little over an hour from now
Before that, let's discuss Spring Training!

Any chance of the Reds doing anything with Senzel and Dunn out a while as well as some bullpen arms?  They gave a few dollars to spend.
Anthony Franco
6:02
I don't think they're doing anything  in response to injuries beyond maybe a minor league depth signing. There's no one left in free agency who moves the needle for them and they're not in a position to trade to backfill the roster

AL Central standings at year end:  Guardians, Twins, ChiSox, Tigers, Royals with only the first-place finisher making the playoffs.  Any significant disagreements?
Anthony Franco
6:03
I lean Minnesota but this all seems reasonable. Think I like Kansas City more than Detroit for fourth

Does Andre lipcius have a chance to made the team? He has hit well in camp, with the usual disclaimer about spring results?
Anthony Franco
6:04
Yeah I think there's a reasonable argument for him breaking camp. Don't really care about the Spring Training performance but he was a 2019 draftee from the SEC who's already on the 40, has hit well in the upper minors and is soon to turn 25. Makes sense to give him a look sooner than later, particularly given the uncertainty at third base

Hi Anthony!  Today's chat with Dsn Haren does NOT have a link to ask questions ahead of time.  Most player chats do but a couple, zero.  Is this by choice of the player?  With my ADHD and autism it is very difficult to ask questions in real time.  I certainly do not blame those players if that's outside their comfort zone.  Thanks!

We generally send early access to the player chats as a perk for our Front Office subscribers

Who will have the better career, Lodolo or Greene?
Anthony Franco
6:08
I like Nick Lodolo a little more than Hunter Greene, particularly in that ballpark, because Greene's so fly-ball oriented
I'm a fan of both obviously -- think they're each going to be above-average MLB starters for a long time -- but slight edge to Lodolo
B Snit’s Bongos
6:08
Who will make the most starts in 2023? I. Anderson, Elder, or Soroka?
Anthony Franco
6:09
I'd order it Elder, Anderson, Soroka

6:10
Which player has the best chance for a 40 / 40 season in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:11
Hmm, I don't actually expect anyone to do this but Acuna and Kyle Tucker are the guys who jump out to me as likeliest
6:12
Maybe Bobby Witt Jr. as a long shot but it's almost impossible to hit 40 in that ballpark
Dodger Blue
6:12
What are your thoughts on the Dodgers acquiring Paul DeJong? Would that make sense?
Anthony Franco
6:13
Not unless the Cardinals were paying him down to a couple million for virtually no return, which I don't think they'd do. I'd rather have Rojas as my starting shortstop than DeJong, and while I still buy him as a viable backup infielder, he's not someone I'd want to pay particularly close to $9MM

I know that not a lot of stock is put into spring training records, but Boston’s undefeated record so far has to say something, rihgh
Anthony Franco
6:14
I don't think it means anything, no

Is a Soto extension happening this offseason plausible? Do you think he stays in SD long term or would they rather pursue Ohtani?
Anthony Franco
6:17
Hard for me to see them getting Soto done pre-free agency. I know he's said he's open to extension talks, and I'm sure that's technically true in the sense that his camp has a price that SD offer they feel they like couldn't turn down. But he's clearly not feeling any pressure to take a deal he considers below market and seems pretty eager to get to free agency

With MLB possibly taking over some regional sports network broadcasts, will this affect local blackouts? Example - I’m a Dodgers fan in Tennessee and with my MLB package I can’t watch games where the Dodgers play the Braves or the Reds due to local blackouts
Anthony Franco
6:18
That seems to be the hopeful end goal, although I'm skeptical it happens in the very near future. Manfred has already talked about wanting to get to a point where customers can cherry-pick games they want (both in and out of market) on MLB TV

Why does MLBTR never give any love to Braves pitcher Kyle Wright, He only won 21 games last year, Did Verlander do that, did DeGrom do that, Did Alcantara do that? no, no and no. He had a 3.19 ERA and mad every start but yall act like he is the 4th or 5th best pitcher on that team. If that is true the Braves must have one of the best rotations in MLB history. I have asked this 5-6 times but no one will ever answer it.
Anthony Franco
6:20
I don't care about pitcher wins but I admit Kyle Wright is good
6:21
I think he's the third-best pitcher on the Braves behind Fried and Strider and yes, the top end of Atlanta's rotation is awesome
Spring Training
6:21
What is your favorite position battle happening in spring training for roster spots that are up for grabs?
Anthony Franco
6:22
Interested to see how the Cubs divvy up playing time at third base. Braves' fifth starter, Angels' catcher
6:23
Not sure it's a Spring Training battle per se but I'm curious to watch how playing time in the Guardians outfield around Kwan unfolds over the season. Is Oscar Gonzalez good enough to hit consistently despite swinging at everything? Does Will Brennan take AB's from Myles Straw eventually?

Say come mid season and the rotation is healthy, pitching as expected, is there an argument to be made about trading Flaherty? I don’t see him resigning, why not get a little something in return right?
Anthony Franco
6:25
So much depends on where they're at in the standings right? If they're out of it, then trading Flaherty is a pretty obvious call. I don't expect them to to be so unless they feel like he's getting squeezed out of the playoff rotation (kind of as the Yankees did with Jordan Montgomery last summer), it's probably worth riding it out even if he walks at season's end

6:25
Do the Brewers have enough offensive firepower to make some noise this year? I trust the pitching to do well enough, but with few upgrades offensively outside of Contreras, I'm rather skeptical...
Anthony Franco
6:26
It should be better than it was. I like the Brian Anderson bounceback play, Jesse Winker should help. Sal Frelick probably gets to the majors at some point
6:27
Feels like a slightly above-average lineup to me. I'd still have them a bit behind St. Louis but certainly not out of the question they push for the division

Are the Rockies over or under 60 wins?
