Good morning everyone. A full slate of baseball awaits this afternoon! Looking forward to chatting shortly. Will give this a few minutes to fill up and then we'll get started.
10:00
Also - looking forward to hosting the re-launched MLBTR podcast. We're hoping that'll go live soon, but feel free to ask any questions about that in the meantime.

Simon! Are you going to do chats more often?
Simon Hampton
10:05
Aiming to do these every Saturday morning around this time
Paul

With Corbin Burnes’ recent comments, do you think the Brewers will trade him before the deadline? What would a package look like from a team like the Dodgers? Would 2 top 100 prospects get it done or would the Brewers want more than that?
Simon Hampton
10:07
I don't think his comments affect Milwaukee's deadline plans too much. They're looking to compete this year and if they're in the mix at the deadline they won't be trading him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him shifted next winter though.

rather than trading for Reynolds now, i think the Yanks need to keep their powder dry for a SP add at the deadline given how suddenly shallow their depth is there (w a ton of SP prospects shipped out at last 2 deadlines)
Simon Hampton
10:13
I'm firmly in the camp that the Yankees don't need to make any left field moves for a while. They may as well see if Hicks can bounce back over the first few months, and their lineup is good enough to absorb him if he doesn't. They can always make a move at the deadline.

I agree that starting pitching is all of a sudden a big concern for them. Severino hasn't pitched more than the 102 innings he threw last year since 2018 as well, so he's no sure thing injury wise. I wonder if they add a depth piece via a minor league deal over the next few weeks.
10:16
Think there were a couple of technical issues preventing a few people from joining - should be addressed now. Sorry!

10:16
Thanks for the Saturday chat, which team do you think will be the most surprising this season either overachieving or underachieving?
Simon Hampton
10:18
I think Texas is still going to finish behind the Astros and Mariners this year, so I guess that'd be underachieving given their spend
I think the Marlins will pick up a few more wins than expected, although that's a tough division for them
Profar
10:18
who is gonna let me in the door
Simon Hampton
10:19
Could be anyone at this stage. Now that games have started, all it takes is one injury for a team to suddenly act a bit more urgently
Matthew
10:20
By 2026, which team is still in first place? Astros, Dodgers, or Yankees.
Simon Hampton
10:21
I can see a path to all three being competitive still, but it's really hard to look past the Dodgers' player development
BhamBrave
10:22
Right now, only Competitive Balance picks can be traded. Do you foresee all draft picks being tradable in a future CBA?
Simon Hampton
10:23
I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be, and am not sure what exactly would prevent either side agreeing to this. Maybe they've just had bigger issues to deal with
White Sox
10:25
Do we sign Pineda, Bundy, or Archer to Minors deal?
Simon Hampton
10:26
I do think they'd make sense for this type of move
Sup McD
10:27
who has a higher ceiling, Steven Kwan or Riley Greene?
Simon Hampton
10:27
As far as pure ceiling goes, I'd go with Greene. But Kwan has obviously achieved more in his short time in the bigs
Bat Boy
10:28
Simon, what is going on with all these TV deals for major league baseball teams. 1st it was Balley sports, now Warner Bros discovery?
Simon Hampton
10:32
Getting a lot of questions on the TV deals. I'll admit, I'm not particularly well versed on all of this and come from a very small country that does not have regional sports networks, but I think at some point RSNs were always going to need an overhaul. I'm interested to see where this goes next, but would love for all games to be centralized somehow through MLB.tv (without blackouts)

10:33
This pitch clock makes even me, a fan, nervous.  I think it will prove to be more distracting than helpful.
Simon Hampton
10:34
I think it'll be very obvious for the first few weeks of the season, and by mid-summer we'll all be used to it
Tim
10:34
Thoughts on players in WBC? Great opportunity but isn’t a little disrespectful to put your team on the back burner? And so many risks too.
Simon Hampton
10:35
I get the injury concerns, but I loved the WBC last time out and would love for it to be successful. Fantastic for the game if it can grow
Rocco rox
10:35
Is this the year the Rockies lose 100 games?
Simon Hampton
10:37
100 losses is a lot to predict, but I think there's a fairly good chance here. Division looks strong and that rotation is just ... not good
Jo Adell
10:38
When do I get traded?
Simon Hampton
10:38
The prospect shine has worn off so I doubt he'd bring back anything great, and he still has a minor league option so think the Angels will keep him and try and help him figure things out
Ray
10:39
Any chance the Cubs are buyers at the deadline?
Simon Hampton
10:39
I don't love the Cubs roster as pre-season favorites, but the NL Central is open enough that I could certainly see things falling their way and the Cubs looking to add at the deadline
This Just-in
10:40
Who will be the biggest name with more than one year left on their contract (a la Soto) to be traded at this year's deadline?
Simon Hampton
10:42
Bryan Reynolds is pretty much Soto according to the Pirates. Maybe him, maybe Burnes or Woodruff if the Brewers are out of it. Shane Bieber would be my really big name though if the Guardians are out of it at the deadline, but still think that's pretty unlikely

You are doing the podcast right? When is it starting?
Simon Hampton
10:43
I am. We are hoping to get it off the ground in the next few weeks. Just finalizing structure and technical stuff at the moment. Looking forward to launching it!

10:43
Do I extend any Starters like Miles or Jordan?
Simon Hampton
10:45
Think the Cardinals have to extend at least one of them to avoid being faced with a complete rotation overhaul. Quite like Montgomery as a projectable mid-rotation anchor that might be able to be extended for Taillon/Walker money?
