Hey everyone, hope you're doing well!
3:55
Feels like there's some stuff to discuss this week
Oldmanbythesea
3:55
Any particular front office that surprised you this offseason, either because of their aggressiveness in the free agent market or their passivity?
Anthony Franco
3:56
Aggressiveness: Mets
Passivity: Red Sox/Dodgers (at least at the top of the market)
Armchair GM
3:57
Has Aroldis Chapman's stock fallen so low that he is going to have to take a 1 year deal, with a lower base + incentives?  And what team (s) do you see signing him?
Anthony Franco
3:57
Yeah I think he's a one-year deal guy. It's basically impossible to pick a team on a reliever, particularly one who some clubs might cross off entirely because they don't think he's a good clubhouse fit
3:58
Astros/Cubs kind of make sense, I guess. Diamondbacks maybe
Trog
3:58
The Rangers have been connected to Conforto for LF, but also have a hole at 1B/DH, depending on whether you want Nathaniel Lowe playing defensively at first. With Bubba Thompson, Eli White, Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith all profiling as above average defenders in LF, why not invest in Cruz/Gurriel/Belt/Mancini instead of Conforto, who is a red flag health risk?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Just feels like Conforto's the biggest upside play left from an offensive perspective. Maybe he's riskier than the rest of the players you mentioned, but if any of that group is going to post a wRC+ above 125 next year, I'd pick Conforto

Who will be playing second base for us this season?
Anthony Franco
4:00
They make sense for Segura if they're willing to stretch the budget a little bit further
4:01
If not, Hanser Alberto? It's really thin at this point
Disappointed
4:01
What is Scott Harris thinking? I'm beginning to think Detroit has an ownership not wanting to spend problem and not an inept front office problem.
Anthony Franco
4:01
The Tigers were never going to be able to fix this in one offseason. The entire lineup was terrible last year and Mize and Skubal are hurt. Regardless of how aggressive they were this winter, they weren't competing
4:02
I did think they could attack the middle of the starting pitching market for a Manaea or Taillon type on a multi-year deal. They've stayed away from that and just taken shots at one-year upside plays, particularly in the rotation. That feels like a fine strategy to me with where the roster was at
4:03
Will say if this was the plan, I would've tendered Candelario a contract and given him a chance to bounce back though
Steve M
4:03
What are the best Options for the Red Sox to fill there shortstop besides Story
Anthony Franco
4:04
Elvis Andrus in free agency. Trade market: maybe Amed Rosario, Jorge Mateo, could probably get Nicky Lopez from K.C.
Zach
4:04
Do you think the giants made that last second move trying to dodge that contract? In other words second thoughts on the contract? As he got significantly less for almost the same amount of years?
Anthony Franco
4:06
No, I don't think was pre-planned by the Giants or Correa's camp (which I've gotten a few questions on). It's a terrible look for the Giants, who now have no chance to sign the kind of star player they entered the offseason expecting to get. It's not a buyer's remorse thing; they could've just not pursued Correa and gone after Swanson if they didn't want to pay him $350MM
4:07
By "terrible look for the Giants," I mean the offseason as a whole. Maybe they'll be proven right for their medical evaluation on Correa specifically. But it couldn't have fallen in a worse way from a timing perspective, since anyone they could plausibly turn to as an impact free agent target is off the board
Good Saint Nick Krall
4:07
If the Mets suddenly find Brett Baty more expendable, does parting with Diaz the Younger (plus something else) make sense for me to bring Baty to GABP to play LF?
Anthony Franco
4:08
Yes I would give up Alexis Díaz if it got me Brett Baty. I don't think the Mets make that deal though

Good Day, Sir!  I'm not buying Swanson is an upgrade over Hoerner at SS. Please convince me I'm wrong. 2 out, bottom ninth, game tied, I'd rather have Nico at the plate.
Anthony Franco
4:09
He's not replacing Hoerner, who just moves to second but is in the lineup everyday. The question is whether Swanson's better than Madrigal or Christopher Morel, which is the case in my opinion
I still don't see the Cubs as presently constructed as a serious threat to the Cardinals/Brewers at the top of the NL Central, but I definitely like them more than I did a month ago
GBS42
4:10
Eduardo Escobar to the Giants? That would be fun and shouldn't cost San Francisco much in prospect capital.
Anthony Franco
4:11
Sure yeah, I could see this. Depends on if the Mets feel obligated to move Escobar because they don't have a ton of AB's for him
I don't think they're about to ship him away just to save money, so dealing him would be more about giving him a better opportunity for reps. Mets don't have to do that
LOUD NOISES
4:12
How do I find the current free agent prediction standings?
Anthony Franco
4:13
Whoops sorry, that was last year's
I implore you to ignore the staff ones
NL East
4:13
It’s a beast. How do you stack things up post Correa, and is there anything meaningful the Phillies or Braves can do to respond?
Anthony Franco
4:14
I think the Mets are the favorites but not dramatically so. There's a lot of talk about how much talent New York has brought in, and deservedly so, but they also lost plenty more key players than either Philly or Atlanta did
I'd order them Mets, Braves, Phils right now but think all three are playoff teams
4:15
As far as directly responding to the Correa deal, no, I don't think you can really do that at this point. Could argue the Phils already did with Turner anyways
Tom the Raptor
4:16
Jays and Diamondbacks make a great trade partner for each other,  Which outfielder do you think is a match for the Jays in return  for Danny Jansen (catcher) and Cavan Biggio/Santiago Espinal (infielder), which would satisfy both teams' needs ??  Thanks.
Anthony Franco
4:17
I don't know there's a match for the guys you named specifically. I wouldn't give up Thomas or Varsho for Jansen and Biggio/Espinal if I were Arizona, but wouldn't part with Jansen for McCarthy from the Jays perspective
