Anthony Franco
5:57
Hey everyone, hope you're all enjoying your evening!
5:58
Going to give the queue a couple minutes to fill up and then we'll get started
Charkip
6:01
Tampa Bay looking to add a couple bats. Who makes the most sense for this team?
Anthony Franco
6:02
I think Seth Brown's the ideal fit for them but someone like Kepler works too. Rowdy Tellez if Milwaukee wanted to move him. Basically a lefty-hitting first base/corner outfield type
Jon
6:02
The team that didn't make the playoffs last year that is most likely to win the WS is _________
Anthony Franco
6:02
Good one, think I'll take Milwaukee
Giants fan
6:02
Do you think SF will extend Webb?
Anthony Franco
6:04
I'm sure they'll look into it but I don't know that they'll go to the level it takes to get that done. This front office has preferred the mid-level bounceback starting pitcher rather than top-of-the-market investments
Obviously extending a player who still has three years of arb control isn't the same thing as re-signing one of Gausman or Rodón once they hit free agency, but it might take a record extension for that service class
Redwood
6:05
Astros done with their roster?
Anthony Franco
6:06
Still a chance to add a lefty reliever to the mix. Think they could supplement Dubón and Hensley in the utility infield group, although that might just be on a minor league deal
Clarke
6:06
Would Winn & Gorman be enough for Edward Cabrera ?
Anthony Franco
6:06
I wouldn't give up Masyn Winn and Nolan Gorman for Cabrera if I were St. Louis
OZ
6:06
Scott Rolen is a Hall of Famer.  Jeff Kent is not.  Do you agree?
Anthony Franco
6:07
I would also have voted for Kent but a yes on Rolen would've been the easiest call of anyone on the ballot for me
Fettuccine Finesser
6:07
The Royals seem like they've kicked into a major retool. Given that Taylor and Mondesi have gone for some relief lottery tickets and Josh Taylor, what sort of price could you see Scott Barlow going for, should they choose to deal him?
Anthony Franco
6:08
I disagree with the premise a little bit. Mondesi and Taylor were rentals, and the former had kind of fallen down their infield depth chart because of his inconsistency and injury history. They're clearly open to moving veterans for younger talent but Barlow would be a much more significant subtraction than either of the guys they've dealt this week.
6:10
If they did move him, they should get a pretty significant prospect package back though. Two affordable arb years left, kind of quietly one of the game's best relievers. He'd be in demand
Dalton Wilcox
6:10
Can someone, say Cubs, pry AJ Puk from Oakland before the season?
Anthony Franco
6:11
I doubt it. Oakland GM David Forst has already suggested they might take a look at Puk as a starter in camp. Maybe that's no longer the case after signing Fujinami and Rucinski but if that were ever a serious consideration for them, might as well give it a shot before putting him on the trade market
Red Sox
6:12
What did you think of the Red Sox owner saying that without the continued spending through ticket prices we would not be the Red sox. I realize its not word for word what he said but its how it reads imo.
Anthony Franco
6:13
Never really bought that argument. They're a business and incentivized to maximize profits through ticket prices with pretty simple supply/demand calculations whether they run player payrolls at $230MM or $75MM
AA
6:13
Will Grissom stick at SS or will I be calling Elvis Andrus?
Anthony Franco
6:14
I do think the Braves are going to head into the season with Arcia and Grissom and give the latter a real chance to prove he can handle it defensively. If he can't, then it becomes a priority for the deadline
6:15
Not sure they'd view Andrus as much of an upgrade on Arcia even if Grissom isn't quite at the level they want with the glove
Calling Officer Karkovice
6:15
If MLB suspends Mike Clevinger - - perhaps for the season - - what are the White Sox’ options to fill the resulting hole in the rotation?
Anthony Franco
6:16
Feels like Davis Martin's the first guy in at that point. Jonathan Stiever maybe gets a shot midseason if he's healthy
Hellbender
6:17
What’s next for the Phillies? Do you expect a Hoskins trade?
Anthony Franco
6:17
No reason for them to trade Hoskins at this point. Thought it was a possibility earlier in the offseason when they had a question in the middle infield or rotation. They addressed both via free agency
6:18
By and large, I think they're just set to carry this roster into the season. Nothing really stands out as an area of need for now
redfraggle
6:18
Why would the Orioles want Profar? Even if they trade Hays/Santander, they have Stowers and Frazier with Cowser waiting in the wings.
Anthony Franco
6:20
Yeah I talked about this in the post this morning and agree it's not a great fit. Stowers is unproven but not clearly an inferior player to Profar in my view. Even if you trade Santander or Hays for a starter, I'd rather just let Stowers run with it
Appa Yip Yip
6:20
Do you think Robbie Grossman is holding out for a starting job?
Anthony Franco
6:21
Starting job's not going to be out there. He's part of a group with David Peralta and Ben Gamel who are just lingering out there as role-playing corner bats
Chad
6:21
Hello Anthony, hope all is well. Have you changed your pessimistic outlook on the Cubs offseason approach and overall direction of the team, or should I check back again next week?
Anthony Franco
6:22
Haha I liked their offseason well enough, just think they had too significant a gap to bridge between themselves and St. Louis/Milwaukee to be a legitimate playoff contender in one offseason
6:23
I'd still like to see them pick a lane with Ian Happ and either make an earnest run at an extension or trade him. But generally, I'm fine with the players they've brought in, just think the roster's more in the .500 range than truly competitive
Vermonty
6:24
If you're Cashman and you could trade 1 player for a tepid return, would it be Hicks, Donaldson, IKF or Stanton??
Anthony Franco
6:25
Those are dramatically different questions. I'd love to get out from under the final five years of Stanton's contract but it's certainly not happening. Dealing IKF for a minimal return is more plausible
Rojas to start?
6:25
What is the Dodgers infield look like? They like to swap guys in and out but is Rojas generally going to start?
