Hey everyone, Merry Christmas --- and Happy New Year coming up. It might be cold and the holidays. But we can still talk. Let's have a jumpball -- and here we go.

Hello Mike, hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday! I’m wondering if you’ve heard anything about Ama Tening Sow from Montour regarding his eligibility? It sounds like he’s currently sitting out pending a hearing with the WPIAL but there’s very little information beyond that. Happy New Year!
Mike White
11:05
Yes, I found out last week that WPIAL told Montour he could play, but according to Montour coach, First Love challenged his transfer to Montour. Little hard to understand because from what I understand First Love doesn't even have team or school any more in Washington. They're involved now with Scotland campus near Shippensburg? Anyway, Bill Minear (Montour coach) said he was informed by WPIAL last week that the kid, who is 6-9, has to sit until hearing I believe Jan. 9? Minear wanted hearing earlier but WPIAL said had to wait until then. Stay tuned. More on this one. Kid is not from here. According to MontourFamily in Montour took him in when F
sorry to finish previous post. Family in Montour took him when First Love left.

Maybe North Hills should have played up in 6A again?  They have already won against three 6A teams and 5A section 4 looks tougher.  Any thoughts on who wins that section, it looks wide open to me.
Mike White
11:07
6A is definitely open. Handful of teams could win it. I don't know think anyone head and shoulders above anyone. North Hills would've been in the mix in 6A, but not head and shoulders above anyone. 5A has a number of good teams right now with good records. More depth of decent teams in 5A. Well, there should be. They have more teams than 5A. I still say Penn Hills is No. 1 right now in 5A.

What are your top 3 most surprising teams for boys
Mike White
11:10
I don't know if there are three. But certainly Beaver. Bobcats haven't been above even .500 in a while. They are 6-1 and lost to Lincoln Park by two. Also, I don't know if anyone thought Peters Township would be 6-1.

Is the mid range shot dead in high school hoops? Seems like everyone is 3 or bust.
Mike White
11:11
No, I don't think. It's still there. Yes, more 3's are being shot and not many kids seem to have pullup jumper, but mid range game still there some. Just like it's still there some in NBA.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas Mike and Happy New Year to you and your family!  Have you seen Norwin Basketball Team play this year?  Your thoughts on Adam Bilinsky?  Does he make the PG Fab 5 and does he have the supporting cast to win a win a WPIAL title?
Mike White
11:13
I have not seen Norwin yet. But they are a sleeper team. I saw Bilinsky a few games in AAU in spring. Really liked him. Very athletic. Someone asked about mid range game above. He has really nice jumper. Does he make Fab 5? Good lord, it's a little early for that, isn't it? So many players. That thing will play out. I don't think there is a great team in 6A and we'll see next few weeks how Norwin competes with top teams in their section. But I think they will be very competitive. WPIAL title? Ehhhh, I'm not ready to go that far yet.

How about The Union Scotties what a group straight off a WPIAL title and State championship appearance to 4-0 in hoops. Wins 3A Fairview, 4A Blackhawk, 4A Avonworth, 3A Riverside and not to mention the one Stanley brother hasn't stepped on the floor yet!
Mike White
11:15
The Stanley Steamers. I love what Mark Stanley does as Union's coach. It's not a surprise they are good. They have all five starters back from team that lost in WPIAL finals. Imani certainly has the most talent in Class 1A. They added a few more players from last year. Would be a great final if those two met. I know one thing. I don't think under-sized Union players would back down.

I told a friend it’s not out of the realm to see 12 private schools in the piaa finals this year… he laughed it off and said no way. But if you really stop and think… 10/12 is definitely possible.
Mike White
11:19
Anything is possible. And I guess it could happen. It wouldn't surprise me. But it's not all private schools. It's charter schools, too. Like Imhotep Charter. I know one thing. If you're looking for a team that is going to be in 5A title game, it would be shocking for Imhotep to NOT get there. They just won prestigious City of Palms Classic in Florida. Justin Edwards is No. 2 senior in the country and Kentucky recruit. Also have other Division I guys. And they beat a team that had star twin brothers - sons of former NBA player Carlos Boozer. Enough said.

Can Butler shoot it self into the finals again?
Mike White
11:20
They might have to. They have no size. Clement and it looks like freshman Carney can shoot. Littlejohn is more of a driver and slasher. But if they get there, it will be because of guard play.

what’s up with Archbishop wood making the trek west for a couple games? Two Philly teams traveling to beaver county is rare
Mike White
11:22
I think it's great to see. They are playing the Central Valley Roundball at the Beaver Dome Thursday and Friday. Obviously, they probably got some expenses paid or they wouldn't have come. Just a guess on my part. And Bethea kid from Wood is one of best shooters in state. Some really good games down in this event. Thursday it's Lincoln Park vs. Laurel Highlands.

Is Imani overrated? Lost the two games they played against good teams. Should win those for all recruiting they do and the hype they give themselves
Mike White
11:24
Well they lost to Lincoln Park, Devon Prep and Allderdice. Those are all really good teams. Imani is Class 1A in name only. I don't consider them 1A because of players they have gotten from everywhere. But it's not like they're losing to tomato cans.

Braylon Littlejohn sneaky d-1 football recruit having a good basketball season.  Can butler pull it together for another run in the playoffs?
Mike White
11:24
Talked about him above. Like his athleticism. I don't know if he's a Division I football player. Honestly, never saw him play football. But with his athleticism on the basketball court, I would imagine he would be pretty good in football.

Aside from LH/LP, what are your favorite Christmas matchups?
Mike White
11:25
Just about any game in the Central Valley Roundball at Beaver Dome Thursday and Friday.

How about Norwin Girls Basketball Team Mike?  They play really good defense and have a variety of scorers.  Do they win a WPIAL title?
Mike White
11:26
They are definitely a championship contender. But so is Upper St. Clair and NA still will be good. Those are top three teams right now I think.

Speaking of Beaver, Brady Mayo has been impressive. Scored 29 against LP. Only a sophomore. Looks like one to watch in the future. Have you seen him play in fall or summer leagues?
Mike White
11:29
Looks like no one can hold the Mayo. I heard he's on a roll. There's no hot dogging from him, either. They like to spread things out with Mayo. ...... Wooooo hooooo. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

Geibel appears to be turning a corner with their boys hoops program. Do you think that they can make a run in the playoffs?  Outside of the top 2 or 3, are they the next team up?
Mike White
11:30
They have one really good player in Jaydis Kennedy. They are 1-3 so far this year, with three losses to teams in larger classes. But only beat Carmichaels, 52-44. Let's wait and see.

Hey Mike… we need a dunk contest for charity… some of the participants should be Adam Bilinsky (Norwin), Crosby kid from Yough, and Cole Sullivan (PCC)… Name two other players  that you think should participate
Mike White
11:34
I have no idea. I haven't seen a Dominique Wilkins yet in the WPIAL.

Hi Mike. Have you seen the guard from Penn Hills play, Quinnipiac recruit. I am wondering your thoughts. Interesting how he is signed to play division 1 while many of the flashier guards in the area I hear more hype about are not going anywhere as of yet?
Mike White
11:38
You're talking about Daemar Kelly. He's good. You have to remember he's 6-5 and plays the wing. Is he a top 100 player? Heck no. But he's 6-5 and can play the wing. Shoots it some, gets on the class some. Can score different ways. Have to remember recruiting is a lot of times about potential. He has good size and has been productive and he also played on decent AAU program. Sorry, but 6-1 or even 6-2 guard who might score a lot sometimes don't mean much to major-college coaches unless they do something exceptionally well. And can they defend at the big-time level.
