Greets, all! Back at it; queue is full already, but some room for more. My weekly reminder that giving context and/or choices will enhance the possibility of an answer. Let's get to it!

Hi, Brent! VERY quick question for you today.

A.J. Puk. Future closer? If so, how soon?

Thank you!

Freddy
Brent Hershey
12:05
Yep; think that's possible, given his team and if the control gains hold. Late 2022 at the earliest; might have to wait until 2023. But ... he's been real good so far.

Oneil Cruz seems to be having a tough go at it.  Is he a legitimate superstar going through a rough patch...or someone who is turning out to be not as good as the hype?
Brent Hershey
12:08
I'm still taking the *fantasy* superstar side, but with a caveat. Getting BABIP'd right now in AAA, but is nearing double-digit steals. And there's no questions on his power. But that legit portion really can't be answered while he's in AAA; needs to be against MLB pitching. So we wait.

Hiya, Brent. Jeff Singer seems to be a hot pickup in fantasy circles this week. What are your thoughts on Singer? If/when Roansy Contreras gets promoted, who would you rather gamble on this year?

Much thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:13
Pretty sure you mean Brady, as Jeff is/was a MiLB Phillies pitcher. I'm very interested in Singer, b/c he was always a 2-pitch guy before this year (sinker/slide) and has come back with a third pitch (change-up). Watched that first start of his, he attacked the zone and commanded all three. Still young, but has pedigree and now three pitches that makes him usable.
But ... I've long been a Roansy guy; his power stuff plus command and moxie/mound presence give him the edge over Singer for me, even though his MLB track record is shorter. Like em both, maybe a slight edge to Singer in 2022 (experience) but Roansy for sure long-term.

Hi! Thoughts on C Morel of the Cubs - worthy of a FAAB bid in NL 5x5? What about J McCarthy of AZ? (This is the barrel bottom I’m fishing in!)
Brent Hershey
12:15
Sponsored by #MonoLeagueFun. Probably would lean McCarthy, as I think there's a little bit more of a hit tool there, but it's really close. Both have current opportunity on "meh" MLB squads. And for right now, yes, both are worthy of FAAB bids in an deep NL-only.

Hi Brent. Thanks for the chat. What is wrong with Matt Olson?  Plenty of walks but tons of ground balls. Is it still adjusting to NL pitching and would you sit him for Rowdy until he heats up?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Fair question, but not much wrong that I see - probably some NL adjustment, some inflated expectations, some May correction after a hot April. Has given back some of his contact gains from last year, but still at a rate better than pre-2021. Statcast says quality of contact is fine (elite, even). I'd still have him in there over Rowdy.

in leading indicators it says mercado power and speed. wondering when hes going to get consistent at bats? thank yoy
Brent Hershey
12:23
With emergence of Kwan and Miller along with Naylor being back, Mercado is not finding those AB. Nor is he giving the Guardians a reason to do so at this point.

Munoz gave up hr yesterday. i still think hes got a chance to be top noch closer. AL 10 team traditional 4x4 keeper league. I have him for $1. again, thank you
Brent Hershey
12:25
Yeah you have hold him in a league like that. Still showing too much potential to cut in a keeper lg.

Morning, 12 team 5x5 Scherzer replacement: Gore, Pivetta, Carrasco? General thoughts on Gore going forward? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:27
Pretty comfortable with Gore going forward. Elite pedigree makes this run more believable, though was quite the journey to get here. Would probably pick Gore re: your question, though intrigued by Pivetta's last few starts, too. He'd be my backup target for sure, esp if the Sox's bats are heating up. Consistency has always been his bugaboo.

Pick 1 SP for this week: Morton vs PHI, Wright vs PHI, Wood at CIN, McKenzie at Det?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Our model like Morton <small gap> then the rest about the same.

Good morning...NL only Scoresheet league...Max Muncy, while still able to draw walks, isn't doing anything else.  Is there something going on?  Does he need TJ?  Also...any update on Nick Madrigal and Jon Berti (my other 2Bs)
Brent Hershey
12:35
Scoresheet sighting!! Well, the good thing about drawing walks is that Scoresheet rewards them. But yeah, fair to speculate about Muncy's elbow for sure. Berti sounds like he's closer than Madrigal to getting back; like even as soon as this week. The fact that his was COVID and not a body part gives him the "edge," I guess....

Teoscar Hernandez was dropped in my 12 team HTH mixed league. His production and underlying metrics are awful. HQ was high on him going into the season. Any hope for a rebound?
Brent Hershey
12:42
We were super high, and I've got my own rosters to prove it! The good news is that BABIP is playing a huge role right now. The bad news is you have to wonder if that oblique is not fully healed. Been a bit of give-back in his contact gains from 2021, but batted ball data isn't horrible. If you're able to reserve him I'd absolutely pick him up and do that; if you can't, I might just monitor closely and be ready to pounce when we see a couple good games. I think long-term he'll be fine; even if he falls short of our preseason projections.

What pitcher would you prefer ROS - Nick Martinez or Roansy Contreras?
Brent Hershey
12:42
Roansy. Much better stuff; slightly more favorable division.

12:47
Hi Brent,  I have been holding Dalbec in a very deep points league, but for how much longer? Would you cut him as a DH reserve for Calhoun or Larnach?  Looking for upside power.
Brent Hershey
12:47
The Calhoun thing seems like a trap (we've probably seen his best week) ... though maybe that's your best option as a reserve bat, as he's hitting the ball hard. I'd probably still prefer Dalbec to Larnach, though Larnach could get some run here soon and there will likely be Ks (sound familiar?). Dalbec is another pre-season fave that hasn't worked out. At all.

Hi Brent, Happy Past-40-Game-Mark Week. In an AL-only 5x5 league. Now that Rutschman is up, what notable rookies are on the horizon for call-ups in the AL? Thanks as always.
Brent Hershey
12:48
Nick Pratto in KC, Grayson Rodriguez in BAL, Tristan Casas in BOS are three that come to mind.

12:50
Was expecting more from Jesus Sanchez based on his 60 game stint last year. Do you think he will develop into a .250+ hitter with 25-30 HR pop?
Brent Hershey
12:50
The HR numbers are more plausible than the BA unless his contact rate improves dramatically. Which is possible at 24 yrs/old, but not a give. MLB adjustment periods are mostly undefeated.

12:52
I'm going to have to make a call between Brendan Donovan and Jake Fraley, when Fraley returns.  NL only.  My gut says stick with Donovan?
Brent Hershey
12:52
I would agree w/ your gut, at least partially due to those teams' player-development track records.
Koz
12:53
Willie Calhoun...AAAA guy?  What is Texas planning to do with him?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Sounds like he needs a change of scenery, though rarely does a player with his history, at that stage of his career, get to make that call. TBD.
Eddie
12:53
I need to drop one player.  Would you drop Winker, Bellinger, Teoscar Hernandez, Walsh or Carlson?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Carlson. Shortest track record.
David
12:57
Do you see Duran moving into the closer role in Minnesota or will he only be an occasional source of Saves going forward?
Brent Hershey
12:57
I think he moves in there b/c his stuff is that good ... but it could be a multi-month process. There will be some bumps for Duran and that org likes to spread it out/play matchups. But come August or so, I think he's the no-doubt guy b/c of his arsenal. I see parallels to 2021 Emmanuel Clase.

Hi Brent, three quick questions (no worries if you can’t get to all of them; 16 team league, H2H categories, 32-man rosters with keepers). 1) Is it a liability to have all of Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, and Austin Riley given that they’re on the same team? Am currently rostering all of them. 2) Can you rank Amed Rosario, Ramón Laureano, and Robbie Grossman? All three of them seem fairly similar and I’m thinking about trying to deal or drop the latter. 3) All else being equal, is trading Tylor Megill for Max Kepler relatively even (or should I be asking for more for Megill?)? Thanks for this chat!
