Welcome, chatters! Lots to get to...

how worried should I be on Masyn Winn?  high K% rate in spring training has carried over into regular season.  seems completely over matched.
Brent Hershey
12:03
For me, not yet. Only 3 games. If you're convinced and you have another option, I could see benching, but not cutting.

(Foreshadowing: this could be a theme throughout this chat! :-) )

Hi Brett. Carlos Estevez's velocity is down significantly thus far. How concerned should I be, and how likely is it that this is just an early season blip?
Brent Hershey
12:06
Watchable for sure. But you likely rostered him for saves, and he's still the guy in KC. Hold.
Rick
12:07
Rough start for Endy Rodriguez. I figure when Horwitz is ready to play they will send Rodriguez back down. Do you still see him as future starting catcher for Pirates or if not, do you think he will hit enough to end up in the outfield or 1B?
Brent Hershey
12:07
So hard to read tea leaves here. My hunch would be, given his versatility, he ends up somewhere else other than catcher. Long-term, still believe in the bat.

Good morning Brent! AL only 4x4 keeper.1. What is your take on Mize for a buck? 2.Is Soler a good bet for 25HRs 3. Uceta to close by July 1? and innings total on deGrom? As always appreciate all you do for us!
Brent Hershey
12:09
  1. Love it right now. Spring changes look legit; we'll know more here with a start or two under his belt.
  2. Yes; as always with him, health is important.
  3. Gonna say no, b/c hey have too many good options in that pen. I think Fairbanks falters/gets hurt again, and Cash spreads it around. Uceta one of the those, but not THE guy.
  4. 140??

Another happy Monday to you, Brent! My first FAAB weekend passed, and I nabbed Alvarado (prioritized over Halvorsen) and Ashcraft, who came very cheaply after Pagan's first save.

What are your thoughts on both Alvarado and Ashcraft for the extent of the season? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:12
Love how Alvarado is pitching. Feel like the PHI situation is such that if Romano fails, it will be a committee again (might include Romano, but Alvarado and Kerkering as well). Not great fantasy-wise.

If you can hold Ashcraft, it's a worthy cheap gamble to take. In THAT situation, I think Francona will want to have ONE guy. We just don't know who it will be.

Mornin' all!

Brent, I'm curious about Ben Brown, Richard Fitts, and Sean Burke. who do you like most from a skills perspective thus far?

Fitts may have it tough staying in the rotation, but his first start vs. Texas was impressive.
Brent Hershey
12:13
I like Brown the best skills-wise, but I'll bet Burke stays in his rotation the longest.

Hi Brent, thank you for taking my question. Which 3 pitchers should I bench this week: l-jackson ty-mcgill allen povich mize sugano? After the recent injuries to Torres and J-Ramirez, which 2 batters should I bench this week: Torres and J-Ramirez Raley J-Bell Polanco Frelick?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Bench Allen, Sugano and Povich
Hitters: Torres and Raley, though that one's tougher. Kinda in the dark re: J-Ram's injury.

Is Devers ever going to get a hit or will he keep breaking MLB records with the number of 0-fers and K's? I see an 0 for April coming
Brent Hershey
12:17
Never gonna get another hit. Heard he's retiring tomorrow.

In actuality, I subscribe to the "it's the first week of spring training for him" theory. Looks bad, no doubt, but it'll turn.

Is Bochy trolling us all with Luke Jackson or did he suddenly become a lights out closer over night?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Know your managers — Bochy wants one guy and he'll stick with it awhile. Jackson is it for now, methinks.

Hi Brent, two questions for you on this overreaction Monday.

1) It looks like he may have been sick, but how concerned should we be about Ober's horrific start and, more importantly, the drop in velocity?

2) How predictive of future success was Soriano's Saturday start against the White Sox? I need stream a couple of pitchers this week (looking at Ben Brown, for example) and Soriano's my only possible drop at pitcher. I'm worried I'll regret it as the season goes on...

Thanks, as always.
Brent Hershey
12:20
Overreactions? Here? NEVER!

  1. Not overly; he has enough of track record for some grace here.
  2. I'm kinda interested in Soriano in general. This was against the ChiSox, so we'll need to see more, but some goings-on there. I'd keep over Brown if it were me.

Hey Brent! Thanks for doing this!

16 team H2H category keeper league uses OBP, TBs, Runs, RBI, SBs and QS, ERA, WHIP, SVs, Ks.

I have a decent offense that includes Witt Jr, Ohtani, Betts and Jazz. My pitching is solid with Wheeler, Framber, Webb and H Greene but not deep at all after that. Starting Wesneski this week just to have a body out there. Otherwise I'm waiting on one of Sproat, Festa or Detmers to grab a spot.

Would you trade Betts/Sproat for A. Riley/Cease?

The thought is to get a little younger, lock up a top five 3B and hope to move Betts before a decline while adding another near elite arm.
Brent Hershey
12:23
"Decent" offense ... lol. Looks amazing in a 16-teamer!

Yes, I'd do this deal, especially if you're in the race this year (I'd think you are). That's solid production you're getting back with a big piece being an prospect SP.
Bob
12:24
Do you think Logan Webb or Reynaldo Lopez's poor first starts are anything to be concerned about?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Not yet, especially in Webb's case (much longer track record). Starts like these happen in June, you barely notice.

Hi Brent--Would love to get your take on this: Having played a bunch of DFS, started playing daily matchups some w/ my non-star starters/bench guys. This year I have a more balanced team than usual and am doing it more (again, w/ non-stars). Good idea or stick with starters? (Langeliers v. Bart / Pena v. Ceddanne v. IKF when O. Cruz in OF / Ward v. Hoskins v. J. Walker at UTIL...etc.).
Brent Hershey
12:26
Could be some gains to be made here, but in general one-game outcomes are so random. BUT ... sounds like you enjoy the research and the challenge. Hurts no one to test it out for a while.

Hi Brent! Great to be back here. Please rank these 1B breakout candidates for this year: Tork, CES, Soderstrom (5x5 OBP).
Brent Hershey

CES, Soderstrom, Tork

Happy Monday! As always, thank you for doing this. 5x5 OBP 10 team Dynasty League. On the waiver wire right now I have Jung Hoo Lee, Lars Nootbar, Jordan Beck and Sal Frelick available. Can you rank them? And who would you want for this year? Future years? Sunk cost on Jordan Walker. Time to let him go or are there signs that this will be okay?
Brent Hershey
12:29
In a 10, Nootbaar, Frelick, Lee, Beck for this year, flip the last two for future years. I'd still hang onto Walker, at least for a while. Maybe from the bench. Give him at least a partial year to see where we stand.

Hiya Brent .. I've been a big Dylan Crews fan since his college days but am a bit disappointed in his major league hitting profile. He doesn't seem to hit the ball hard and is low in the lineup.

I know he has speed, but am I crazy for liking Cam Smith more long-term in my H2H league that has both BA and OBP as categories?? Or is Crews a good buy-low???
Brent Hershey
12:31
Too early to tell on both counts. Saw a bunch of Philly/WAS over the weekend, and yes Crews looks lost right now. But still too early ... the Crews v Cam I think comes down to profile. Eventually, Crews has a better chance of being a 5-category guy for me; Cam probably has more top-end power. Both are so young/inexperienced, so we need to expect growing pains.

Hey Brent, thanks for taking my question. For overall 2025 performance, who would you rather have - Kepler PHI or Soderstrom ATH? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:34
Tough after Soderstrom's opening series. Slight lean there; Kepler a bigger (but not huge) chance he ends up in a platoon. Don't think Sod runs that same risk.

Tylor Megill or Jeffrey Springs: who's a better flier in a 5x5 mixed league (15 teams)? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:34
Megill for me. Better overall team; stuff plays better, we know that home ballpark is good for pitchers.

Hi Brent,
In a mixed 12-team 8x8 league where we score OBP, SLG, and SOs, I have Buxton, Soler, and Larnach as my last OF and 2 bench spots. Is that the correct order, or is Larnach vs RHP only better than Soler?  Second question, is Willi Castro and his position flexibility worth more as my 2B than Otto Lopez?
