Let's do that hockey.

Thoughts on inserting Tanev on the PP.   Something has to change.

Something has to change, but I'm not sure Tanev is the answer. I'm probably the world's biggest Tanev supporter. I love his scrappy play and speed. But his hands are average. I'm not sure he fits with the power play. I'd anticipate the same five: Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Hornqvist, Letang. I did like the change in Game 2 to play Hornqvist in front.

The Penguins have too much top-end talent to mess with the niche Tanev has made for himself, I think. This team is going to sink or swim with what the stars do. Better to find ways to get them to click than take a happy fish out of his pond.

Elliotte Friedman is reporting from the bubble that Jared McCann is not in uniform. Sam Lafferty and Evan Rodrigues are. That means the Penguins will shake up their third line. If it's a simple swap, Rodrigues would be the most likely bet at center. Lafferty is more likely on the wing.

My colleague, Matt Vensel, thinks tonight will be a big night for the Malkin line. Malkin has yet to produce a point this postseason. However, he leads the club in shots, has just one total turnover and in Game 2 was on the ice for more high-danger scoring chances than any other forward. We'll see if that prediction comes true.

Any predictions for tonight?

I'm gonna go Penguins, 4-1. A stress-free night before Montreal makes it interesting facing elimination in an afternoon start.
McCann indeed out.

Who would you have sat, 19 or 12?

Buckle up. You ready?
8:14
Man, how many times did odd-man rushes like that go wrong for the Penguins in the playoffs last year?

Nice speed by ZAR there.

Oof. Can't give any team that many chances in tight.
8:23
Challenge here. Hmm.
8:24
Review goes against the Penguins. *And* there's a delay of game penalty. So much for that stress-free night, huh?

That was a Tomlinesque challenge.

But, hey, nice kill/work there from Blueger and Tanev
Excellent shift from Guentzel and Crosby.
8:31
Hey, look, a power play goal.
8:32
Malkin's good work the past couple of games finally pays off. And now *another* power play.

We're getting a good example tonight of how dangerous Zucker/Guentzel combined make this team when Zucker was supposed to be the only one around for the playoffs

Hey, Pens fans. I'm popping in during the first intermission to answer any you've got. Fire away.

Everyone must have run to the bathroom or the beer fridge in the basement. Bring me one back while you're down there.

What happened to shultz’s offensive instinct? He seems indecisive, passes aren’t crisp, etc?
Matt Vensel

Jay, it's been a big mystery. He hasn't been the same player the last couple of years. Obviously, injury has a lot to do with it. But you're right that he hasn't been effective as a puck-mover. Late in the period, Geno made him a risky but accurate behind-the-back pass and Schultz had space to make something happen if he carried. But he forced it back to Malkin and it was a giveaway. You don't need me to tell you this, but that third pair might make or break the Penguins this summer.
