Hi guys. Thanks for having me on for a chat.  Looking forward to answering some of your questions.

Thanks so much for doing this chat!! As a professional pitcher who had success in the big leagues, how did you determine the style of pitching that works best for you and stick with it?
Scott Feldman
12:03
I think a lot of that comes from feel, but also coaching. I first broke into the big leagues as a sidearmer, but learned that I needed to make an adjustment to be able to face lefties. That led to me throwing more over the top and learning a cutter, and curveball rather than sinker/ slider

Did you get your HR ball back?
Scott Feldman
12:04
Haha, yes for sure my favorite memorabilia. We had some fantastic clubhouse guys with the Cubs and they got it back for me

Do you have any fun examples of "Everything's bigger in Texas"?

Driving from Dallas to CA after the season. West TX never ends

Hi Scott thanks so much for chatting!  I loved seeing you pitch with the Rangers (yes, 2011 still hurts).  You pitched very well in college but were only a 30th round pick (I know, small school but still...).  Did that put a chip on your shoulders?  Also, you went through free agency three times.  Loved it or not so much?  One more please?  Your Dad was an FBI agent.  Did you ever watch the X Files together?  Thank you!
Scott Feldman
12:08
I think as a late round pick I had to have the chip on your shoulder mentality. Any extra motivation you can get. Even though I stuck around to have a 12 year career, I always felt like I needed to earn it everyday. Never wanted to get complacent or take things for granted
12:10
Free agency was stressful at times, but mainly I was just grateful to reach that point in my career. Grateful for the guys that came through ahead of me and fought for that right. But man, it was weird leaving the Rangers and all the wonderful people in that organization, especially since I was there from age 20 til age 30. But overall I feel very lucky how things played out and I enjoyed free agency.
12:12
My dad and I never really watched the X files. We did watch a lot of sports together though

Thanks for doing this sir. I got to see a lot of your games with the Rangers. May I ask who your favorite teammate was? Also what do you think of the new stadium?
Scott Feldman
12:14
So many great teammates, but one thats really on my mind lately is the great Darren O'day who just announced his retirement. But to be honest, I miss all of the guys. Tough to replace going to "work" with 25 of your buddies everyday

Hi Scott, always enjoyed watching you pitch!  As a lifelong Rangers fan, I am definitely still hurting over 2011. What was it like pitching in game 6?  Thanks for all you did for the Rangers!
Scott Feldman
12:19
That one will always sting. We had such a good team, and so many wonderful people on that roster, coaching staff, front office, trainers, strength coaches. Everyone was just one big family. The fans who supported us were tremendous. Just a tough way to end things and come up a little short. I don't think I'll ever forget what it was like to be pitching in that game with a chance to win it all. What a thrill. But at the same time, what a devastating feeling to come up short. Something that I'll never forget. And I'm always rooting for the Rangers to win it all and bring a championship to Arlington

What is the best piece of pitching advice you got in the big leagues?
Scott Feldman
12:23
Make sure you develop a good routine and stick with it. Eddie Guardado was big on that. I used to watch how dedicated he was to his routine and how long he played for. Definitely not a coincidence. All the guys that have long successful careers seem to have that in common. You can't always control the results or the outcome, but you can control your preparation and routine

Hi Scott, During your tenure with the Cubbies, what was the most exciting moment for you and are you interested in re-joining the team as a scout or what other capacity would you like to work at?
Scott Feldman
12:27
In my short time with the Cubs I had quite a few fond memories. Pitching my first complete game, hitting a homerun, walking to Wrigley for a day game and seeing the atmosphere around the ballpark. What a fan base and just a historic franchise. It was some of the most fun I've ever had in my life. I love Chicago.

Scott, you started the only game I've ever attended at Fenway. Unfortunately, you gave up two 3-run bombs to Ortiz in the first inning and you guys lost 19-17! haha. how do you bounce back from a game like that where things just aren't going your way?
Scott Feldman
12:30
Wow, a memorable game haha. Crazy to think about that one, and crazier that I somehow didn't get an L that game. I feel like that game pretty much sums up my experience with Fenway Park. Never seemed to pitch well there. They always had a tough lineup and it's just a tough place to pitch in general. The best way for me to bounce back from a tough game is just to get back to the routine, put in the work, flush it, and get back out there to get rid of the bad taste

I remember you well with the Reds.  What was your favorite park to pitch in?  (Guessing it wasn’t GAPB lol)
Scott Feldman
12:32
I always loved pitching at Yankee Stadium the best. The mecca of baseball in my opinion. Being from the Bay Area, pitching here against the Giants was always a thrill as well.

Are you interested in rejoining the Cubs organization as a scout or coach in some capacity?
Scott Feldman

I love the idea of being involved with baseball at some point in the future. T

Are you a Texas Rangers' fan?
Scott Feldman
12:38
Especially now that they have such an exciting roster. I love what Chris Young has done there with both the player signings and bringing in Bochey to manage. Also shoutout to the return of Mike Maddux. Go Rangers

i know it was short, but how would you describe your time with the jays?
Scott Feldman
12:40
I was hoping to pitch better in my short time there, but it was still a memorable time in my life. The team was really good, the city was a lot of fun to live in, we made a deep run in the post season.

Hi Scott, no questions but just wanted to say I loved watching you pitch for those up and coming Astros teams! That was a fun era and you were a huge part of it in my memory, so thank you.
Scott Feldman
12:42
Thanks. It's hard to believe how far the Stros have come since that time. Obviously Jim Crane knows what he's doing, and Altuve is a hell of a guy to build a team around!

What was it like getting that opening day nod in 2010 and setting the tone for that magical 2 year run in Texas?
Scott Feldman
12:43
Quite the honor and still a "pinch me" moment that I got to do that three different times. 2010 was such a special season and I will always cherish that memory.

Your dad was an FBI agent? You watch FBI files? Anthony Call is an amazing narrator. Love that show

Sounds like I need to check it out!

Memories from draft day?
Scott Feldman
12:45
It was a long day lol. Pretty sure it was day 2 when my name finally got called in the 30th round. So lucky it all worked out like that and I got to be with such a wonderful organization like the Rangers.

Reds fan here...did you know you would retire before the 2017 season? Or was being in Cincinnati for a year too much to handle? lol
