Thanks for doing this Jacob! What was your favorite city to play baseball in?
Jacob Turner
10:00
I am from St. Louis, so it was always special to play in STL. I also enjoyed playing in Chicago.

Who s your favorite teammate of all time?
Jacob Turner
10:01
Many great teammates but one that always stood out for me was Jeff Mathis. Jeff was a great catcher and you always felt like he was right there competing alongside you.

Hi Jacob thanks for chatting, it's a treat!  Did you feel extra pressure being a number one pick?  Also, did the Boras Corp help you transition to post player life?  How did they treat you as a (sorry to say it) non star?  Thank you so much!
Jacob Turner
10:03
As a player, you always have higher expectations of yourself than the fans. So, I don't feel there was added pressure to being a 1st round pick. The Boras Corp was great during and after my career. While I was certainly not a star, they did an excellent job representing me and protecting me during my career.

Jacob, congrats on being a first round pick and making the Majors at 20. I see your last season as a pro was in 2019 with the Kia Tigers. Did the 2020 virus outbreak and the lost season contribute to your exit, and is there a chance for a comeback as you’re still only 31?
Jacob Turner
10:04
I stopped playing after 2019. My heart was just no longer in the day to day that it takes to compete at that level. I have since started a financial planning firm, JL Strategic Wealth, that helps athletes with their money. It allows me to stay involved in the game and explore my passion of personal finance.

What was your favorite moment you were involved in the big league?
Jacob Turner
10:05
My MLB debut will always stand out. That is a moment that you look forward to your entire life.

What was it like to play in KBO?
Jacob Turner
10:06
The KBO was a great baseball and life experience for me. It was my first time living outside of the United States and that experience was truly eye opening.

Do you think the Tigers should have slowed your development and exposure?
Jacob Turner
10:06
The Tigers were a great place for me, and I think moved me at a pace that I showed the attitude for. Ultimately, it is the player's job to perform on the field.

What is the best perk in being an MLB player?
Jacob Turner
10:08
The travel arrangements and amenities. The travel coordinators in the big leagues do an outstanding job setting everything up for players.

Hey Jacob. Great stuff. Question for you, what is your favorite baseball memory?
Jacob Turner
10:09
My favorite baseball memory was draft day. Being able to experience that with my family after all the sacrifices they made to put me in that position was special.

What advice would you give a pitcher like Grayson Rodriguez who has a lot of hype going into his rookie season? Also which starters in the game now impress you the most?
Jacob Turner
10:11
My advice to any young player is to keep their foot on the gas. Staying at the big league level is often much harder than getting there in the first place. Max Scherzer is my favorite to watch mostly due to the longevity he has had in his career. To continue to perform at that level for that period of time is special.

How did you deal with the mental challenges of not living up to the expectations others (and maybe yourself) had for you entering the league and those first couple seasons?
Jacob Turner
10:12
For me I always said, I want to work as hard as I can and be able to live with the results. I always put forth my best effort and although some of the results didn't go as hoped, no regrets.

What is the most common “money mistake” you see players make with their wealth?
Jacob Turner
10:13
The biggest one is probably not taking enough of an active role in getting educated on their finances. Players certainly don't need to be the expert but should have an idea of what is happening.

What is your best advice for a high schooler who wants to play  college ball?
Jacob Turner
10:14
Focus on creating one outlier tool. In today's game value is driven through outlier tools more so than in years past.

Which current Pitcher in the MLB impresses you the most? Which young arm can you see being really great for a long time?
Jacob Turner
10:16
I have enjoyed watching Shane McClanahan with TB.

Was Jim Leyland the absolute character that all the stories make him out to be?
Jacob Turner
10:17
Jim was certainly a great manager and from an era that seems to no longer exist in the game today. A great leader of a clubhouse.

As a player that got exposed to multiple organizations, is there something that sticks out to you that one organization did really well (or badly) versus the others you saw?
Jacob Turner
10:17
I thought the leadership group of the Chicago Cubs was excellent when I was there. Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein did an outstanding job communicating to players expectations and opportunities. That is all players truly want.

Is there any truth to the statements about wanting to play on the coast rather than the Midwest? Often hear the StL can't sign a big name because of location....like when Stanton was available.
Jacob Turner
10:18
Each players has their own priorities. Sometimes it comes down to the contract, location, or purely the opportunity to win.

What do you know now that you wish you knew back in your playing days?
Jacob Turner
10:19
To enjoy the journey more. In life it is easy to get caught up in the end destination, but the beauty is in the journey.

Do you believe in strict pitch counts? Why or why not?
