What is next for the Pistons? Will they trade one of their guards and/or big men?
Dana Gauruder
12:04
Not out of the question but they've got plenty of options at every position. It would have to be a deal where they get future assets, or one where they get a significant veteran upgrade by dealing multiple pieces. You've got Ivey/Morris at point, Cade/Burks/Bogie/Harris/Thompson at wings (Cade will play some point, too), Stewart/Bagley/Livers at PF and Duren/Wiseman at C. Now, if they can get a first-rounder for Bogie, that would make some sense. But the Pistons have stressed they'd like to see what an Ivey, Cade and Bogie lineup could do.

Is there any team actually likely to make a run at PJ Washington? Pretty much every team that could seems set at the 4 right now.
Dana Gauruder
12:07
True, that's why Washington is the only RFA among players on standard contracts who hasn't been signed. There's been very little buzz regarding Washington in terms of potential landing spots. The Cavs supposedly had some interest and perhaps the Pacers but that may have just come from his camp. In all likelihood, he'll have to settle for the qualifying offer and test the market next summer, similar to what Bridges chose to do.

Will Dame get traded before the season starts?
Dana Gauruder
12:09
I still say yes. But, as indicated in past chats, the Blazers don't have to do anything. Eventually, I believe they'll work something out with Miami and perhaps a third party. I just don't see the point in Lillard playing for the Blazers, unless he thinks they're significantly better. And other than Scoot, who plays the same position, not much has changed roster-wise.

Who will blink first re Harden: Clips or Philly?
Dana Gauruder
12:12
Do the Clippers really want Harden? That's the biggest question. If they did, I doubt they'd be interested in automatically giving him an extension. As a rental, they're not going to give up major assets for him. Perhaps they'll do it as long they don't have to give up future picks. I think the Harden ugliness will carry on into camp and probably beyond.

James harden for Demar Derozen who says no given everything that is going on?
Dana Gauruder
12:15
I think they Sixers would jump at the chance to get rid of the Harden headache by getting DeRozan, who's also on an expiring contract. Don't know why the Bulls would want to make that move. Really, Harden's not going to be happy anywhere unless he feels the team he get traded to wants to sign him for a few more years.
Morey
12:15
At this point, is a return something along the lines of Rozier and Hayward (plus a third team involved for salary purposes) probably the absolute best I can do unless another expiring second tier star goes nuclear on their franchise?
Dana Gauruder
12:18
The one fear the Sixers have is not Harden. It's the possibility of Embiid demanding a trade. That would be the breaking point. So Philly has to navigate that issue -- can they figure out a way to palatably solve the Harden issue without alienating Embiid? Morey has said he doesn't want to impact next summer's balance sheet, when they could have gobs of cap space. Perhaps he'll soften that stance if he's concerned Embiid will want out.

Do you see John Wall signing with any team before the season begins?
Dana Gauruder
12:20
No. Maybe he'll get a 10-day during the season, like Isaiah Thomas did in recent seasons. But I think it'll be tough for him to get another standard contract. He held a private workout well over a month ago for several teams and didn't get any offers. That was telling.

Any more moves for my Hawks
Dana Gauruder
12:24
It's possible, moreso than with most teams out there. They were the team most closely linked with a potential Siakam deal, and the Mavs supposedly are interested in Capela. Perhaps things will heat up closer to camp, when teams more closely evaluate what they've got going into opening night. But I think the Hawks would like to do something with their frontcourt and get another major impact player to complement their guard duo.

Any idea if Meyers Leonard signs with a team this year?
Dana Gauruder
12:27
Another vet that's kind of scrounging around for a contract. There's been absolutely no indication that Leonard has drawn interest in the free agent market. He did get a "rest of the season" deal with the Bucks last year, so maybe he hooks on with another contender when injuries strike.

Where do you see Siakam end up before season begins?
Dana Gauruder
12:28
Atlanta still makes a lot of sense, given it traded away Collins. I think he'd be an interesting fit in Dallas, too, just don't think the Mavs have the type of assets the Raptors would want for him.

how many guys from this years draft would have gone #1 in next year’s draft? Matas and Ron Holland don’t exactly inspire confidence
Dana Gauruder
12:31
Got to see how this college season plays, what the prospects on Overtime Elite, G League Ignite, overseas, etc. look like. Right now, it's supposedly a weak draft class but that could change. Certainly, there are a lot of drafts where talents like Henderson or Miller, perhaps one of the Thompson brothers, would have been the top pick.

Evan Fournier will play with the Knicks this season ? Or will be traded ?
Dana Gauruder
12:35
Don't see Fournier playing much. His value is his contract -- not technically an expiring deal, but a $19 mill club option for 2024/25 that can be declined. It could prove very useful in a blockbuster deal but that could happen in-season. Right now, I'd say it's likely Fournier will be on the Knicks roster heading into camp but he'll almost certainly be dealt before the trade deadline next February.

Why do we refuse to grab a legit big? I know the true C is dissipating, but we get killed on the boards every postseason
Dana Gauruder
12:40
I don't think Bam is going anywhere, if that is what you're suggesting, or that they plan to move him to PF and get another starting center. They do have Love, though he's not going to play a ton of minutes. They seem content with playing a lot of smaller lineups with Martin or Butler being the de facto PF.Maybe that changes a little if they experiment with Bryant/Robinson playing alongside Bam. The fact they seem intent on acquiring Lillard, rather than a guy like Siakam, suggests they're not in the market for another big.

In the case that an Embiid trade demand happens, what kind of return are the Sixers facing down? I'd have to think it'll be less than the Donovan Mitchell return given Embiid's age, injury history, and playoff failures. Maybe equivalent if it happens next offseason.
Dana Gauruder
12:42
They'd demand a king's ransom for him. Look at the haul the Nets got for KD, who has an injury history and is five years older than Embiid. We're talking about a guy coming off an MVP season. He would almost be untradeable because I don't know if you could possibly get fair value for him. They'd want quality young players and a haul of first-round picks for him.

What are the chances Embiid asks out before training camp
Dana Gauruder
12:43
Embiid, from all indications, appears to be on good terms with the front office and is looking forward to working with Nurse. But this is the NBA - things can change in a heartbeat.

Who gets South Bay Lakers Job?
Dana Gauruder
12:47
Don't follow the G League coaching scene too carefully. I know they have a couple of associate coaches who have been there for awhile. Not sure if they'll just promote one of them or look outside the organization.

Do you think NBA 2K24 will be a good game? If you watched the trailer today, which looks good, I'm curious on your thoughts.
Dana Gauruder
12:49
You are asking the wrong guy on that one. I'm not a gamer. I never got past APBA baseball -- a board game where you had player cards and rolled the dice. It was a long time ago! Not even sure they're still in business.

Is there even such a thing as a fair value for star trades? Two good young players, a bunch of picks, and recently drafted young guy is about as much as you can get (The Mitchell trade). I'd argue the KD trade is a bit less valuable, though Bridges is probably more well-rounded than Markkanen.
Dana Gauruder
12:52
Depends on how you evaluate these trades. If the star you acquire doesn't get you a championship or at least to the Finals, then it's likely to be classified as a bust. If the assets you get for that star don't facilitate your rebuild -- or land you some solid players to keep you competitive -- then it's probably a bust the other way. If the Suns don't win a championship with KD, for example, then the Nets seemingly got a great deal. They got Bridges, Johnson, picks, etc. for him.

Do I have a back up plan if we miss out on Dame? We lost Gabe and Max. What di I have up my sleeve?
Dana Gauruder
12:53
Again, I don't see the Heat doing anything if the Lillard trade fails to materialize (I think it will eventually happen). They can run it back with what they've got and pursue Lillard or another star before the February trade deadline.

Who do you think end up playing Center for the Mavs?
Dana Gauruder
12:56
With the crew they've got now? I guess Powell would be the favorite, but there are other options (Lively, Holmes, McGee). Ideally, Lively has a great rookie season (similar to Kessler last year with Utah) and claims that spot. But it's still quite possible they deal for Capela or another vet center.
