ARTHUR HILL
12:01
Welcome to this week's chat. We'll start with a potential trade to shake things up on draft night.
Don

Does the No. 1 and Murray get the Hawks the 4, 8, plus our two picks back. Do you see the Hawks taking Risacher and waiting to see if Clingan falls to 4.
ARTHUR HILL
12:04
I think that price is too high for San Antonio. The next few drafts are going to be a lot stronger, and the Spurs recognize the value of those picks from a Hawks team that may be going through a roster upheaval. San Antonio is probably the most likely team to trade for the No. 1 pick, but they won't overpay.

Thoughts on the Celtics adding Gordon Hayward for a minimum contract next season? Brad Stevens loves him, since he played for him. Give him a 2nd chance in Boston, after his terrible injury, and a chance to chase a title.
ARTHUR HILL
12:06
Sure, it's possible, and it would be a nice end to Hayward's story after the injury derailed his time in Boston. A lot of veterans are going to be interested in those roster spots, though, so the Celtics might have better options.

Am I just a pessimistic Knicks fan or will they be worse next year?
ARTHUR HILL
12:09
They shouldn't be worse. I expect the Anunoby situation to get worked out, and it sounds like they'll be able to keep Hartenstein. Plus they plenty of ammunition for a major roster move if a star they like becomes available. With a fully healthy roster, the Knicks were probably the second-best team in the East this season, and they should stay in that range.

What will the Pistons do with all that cap space? Can they be a play-in team this year?
ARTHUR HILL
12:12
The Pistons are in a very similar situation to where the Rockets were a year ago. They have a nice collection of young talent that gets overlooked because of years of losing. They have a ton of cap space and a new head coach taking over. They'll probably have to overpay for who they want, like Houston did with Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks, but there's at least a chance to improve quickly.

What’s your opinion of the Carruso trade?
ARTHUR HILL
12:16
It seems like a steal from OKC's standpoint. Giddey's playoff struggles raised questions about his future with the team, and they were able to trade him for one of the best perimeter defenders in the league without dipping into their stash of draft picks. I expected Caruso's price to be higher. Chicago's front office must really believe in Giddey.

Lavine is being traded…right?
ARTHUR HILL
12:19
The Bulls seem determined to find a taker. It might be wiser to hang onto him through the early part of the season to see if he can rebuild his value a little, but Karnisovas promised offseason changes and he might take whatever he can get.

How come there are no trades happening? Will a lot come Tomorrow?
ARTHUR HILL
12:23
With no elite prospects at the top of the draft, teams seem reluctant to part with the assets it typically takes to move up. I expect activity to pick up tomorrow, especially in the middle and late parts of the first round. You never know what decisions teams are going to make at the last minute, but it's possible that the first five or 10 picks will remain the way they are.

12:23
Should I be looking forward to a move to Houston for a reunion with Ime?
ARTHUR HILL
12:26
Smart and No. 9 to Houston for No. 3 was a hot rumor for a while yesterday, but I don't see how that benefits the Rockets. He's 30 and coming off a serious injury and he's not a great three-point shooter, which is Houston's primary need. They're better off keeping the pick and taking Sheppard.

If lebron wants a ring head east to Philly  and bring bronny at 41 Why not ?.
ARTHUR HILL
12:28
I don't expect LeBron to go anywhere, especially now that the Lakers have hired his friend and podcast partner as their head coach. The only question now is what his next contract will look like.
Who's Fabio?
12:28
In your view, did Scottie Barnes earn a max deal?
ARTHUR HILL
12:30
Barnes is clearly the Raptors' best player and the cornerstone of the team's future, so there's no reason to sour the relationship by trying to save a few dollars. I think Toronto made the right decision in giving him the max.

12:30
You think JJ can bring the Lakers to the promised land so my Celtics can bag LeBron AND the Lakers for number 19? Real talk though, you think the Celtics have the most realistic chance of repeating for the first time since the Warriors?
ARTHUR HILL
12:33
The Celtics were dominant throughout the regular season and playoffs, and virtually the entire roster will return. Their postseason matchups might be more difficult next season, but they're clearly the early favorites to win another title.

Pretty straight forward question from me this week; if you're Tim Connelly and you've got ownership approval do you trade KAT?
ARTHUR HILL
12:36
I wouldn't do it right away. You've got a couple of years before the money you're paying him in his extension starts to get really uncomfortable. See if the Wolves can stay at the same level next season, and save his salary for a major move later on.

12:36
Can you envision any trades in which Dallas sends out Hardaway's expiring contract and does not have to attach draft pick compensation?
ARTHUR HILL
12:38
No, there's no real demand for Hardaway, and rival teams know the Mavs need to unload his salary to help them keep Derrick Jones Jr. Dallas will have to pay something to move him.
Doc7
12:38
If the Warriors waive Chris Paul, do you see him signing a minimum contract with a contender that is over the second apron, signing with a team like the Jazz that needs veteran leadership and could sign him on a more lucrative one-year deal and make him available at the deadline, or something in between?
ARTHUR HILL
12:40
Paul is still looking for a ring, so I think he'll only consider contenders. I also expect him to get offers significantly above the minimum. The Jazz would be very low on his list of options, no matter what they offer.
Dan’l
12:40
Do you think this off-season the Thunder will attempt to address their rebounding issues? Or would that be difficult to do while remaining true to their current style of offense and perimeter defense?
ARTHUR HILL
12:42
Sam Presti definitely isn't done dealing. He recognizes that a lack of rebounding was a major reason for the playoff loss, and he's certain to address it. Between the draft, free agency and the trade market, he'll add at least one more quality big man.
Jonathan
12:43
If KCP leaves, does that open up any money for Denver to sign other players? How could they possibly make up for his loss? I'm nervous.
ARTHUR HILL
12:45
There are plenty of reasons to be nervous. Trading for Caldwell-Pope gave Denver the perimeter defender it needed to become a title contender, and the Nuggets wouldn't be at the same level without him. Re-signing KCP should be the top priority.

12:46
What do you think of the Grizzlies drafting Matas Buzelis or Cody Williams if they don't move up in the draft?  Seems like small forward is they're biggest need in starting lineup or do you think Vince Williams Jr. is the answer at that position?
ARTHUR HILL
12:47
I expect Buzelis to be off the board if they stay at No. 9, but Williams might still be available. He's going to take some time to develop, though, so he shouldn't be counted on for immediate help if the Grizzlies expect to be back in the playoffs.
Jaxon
12:48
Will the Pistons use their cap space to take on some bad contracts (with draft pick compensation included) to try to improve?
ARTHUR HILL
12:50
Lots of teams will be looking to unload bad contracts this summer, so they could take that approach. But it's hard to keep telling your fans that you plan to improve through the draft when that strategy hasn't been successful for so long. Detroit's first option should be to sign someone who can help right away.

12:51
In your opinion, what's the best outcome for the Wizards coming out of the draft - including draft picks and trades.
ARTHUR HILL
12:53
Stay at No. 2 and take the best player available, which is likely to be Sarr. Then get aggressive later in the draft and try to move up from No. 26. I believe there will be plenty of teams in the late lottery and beyond willing to trade out of the draft without asking for a lot in return.
