What do you believe the Pistons will do with the No. 5 pick and what will they do this offseason?
Dana Gauruder
1:05
Given Troy Weaver's track record since taking over the team, I think that No. 5 is very much in play. Unless they're in love with Brandon Miller -- haven't gotten the sense they'd go all in to move up -- I think they'll trade down. Utah at No. 9 or Dallas at No. 10 are most likely trade partners. The Pistons can still get a solid wing prospect at that spot while picking up an asset (probably future firster) in return. As for the entire offseason, they've got money to burn (30 mill in cap space). They'll chase a high level free agent or use that space to facilitate a trade. They've got a glut of big men and at least one of them (probably Bagley or Wiseman) will go.

Most likely to get dealt at or before the draft OG or Siakam?
Dana Gauruder
1:08
Regarding the Raptors, I was surprised by the news that Trent has decided to opt in. I -- and many others -- assumed Trent would enter the market. That could change the equation there. I think it's more likely they'd deal Siakam to a contender or a team seeking to get out of mediocrity -- they could get plenty of assets in return. I would be surprised, at least mildly, if Siakam is still on the roster come training camp.

Will the Bulls make a move and trade 1 of their big 3?
Dana Gauruder
1:11
Who is No. 3 -- Vucevic, Ball or Williams? Vuc is a free agent and who knows if Ball will play next year. Ball's salary could be included a broader deal and Williams is also a potential trade candidate. As for LaVine or DeRozan, I think one of them will go. Just depends on what kind of offers they get. I can't see the Bulls simply re-signing Vuc, running the same core group out there and expecting dramatically better results.

Is there ANY chance the cavs can trade into the first round high enough to draft Grady Dick?
Dana Gauruder
1:13
They'd probably have to move up the No. 8-13 range to make it happen. They owe a bunch of firsters, thanks to the Mitchell, which kind of limits what they can offer. They do have a bunch of extra second-rounders to dangle, perhaps that would be enough to move up to the late lottery. So, not impossible for them to get into that range, but many other teams have more to offer.

Would love to trade Ayton for some toughness and depth.  Are you hearing any solid rumors on a possible trade?  Would love to flip him for someone like Turner and a player.
Dana Gauruder
1:15
Given that the Pacers handed Ayton the offer sheet, you'd think they would be a logical trade destination. Given the aggressiveness of Ishbia, I think they'd like to cash in Ayton for 2 or 3 solid role players and get off his contract. I know Vogel said he thinks he could make Ayton a defensive force but I doubt Ayton would be happy being the fourth or fifth option in an offense where you've got Booker, Durant and Beal taking most of the shots.

Do heat get Dame?🏀
Dana Gauruder

Portland, to me, is the biggest wild card in the draft. If they keep the No. 3 pick, it's a signal that Lillard wants to get moved. If the Blazers complete a trade with the Pelicans or some other team for a more proven player, then it's a signal they'll continue with Lillard. Miami is a logical landing spot for Lillard and the Heat have some big contracts (such as Lowry's expiring contract worth near $30 mill) to match salaries.

If the Raptors don't land a top 3 pick, could you see them pivot to talks with Detroit for 5th? Would a package including the pick and Ivey for Siakam make sense?
Dana Gauruder
1:20
Would be an interesting move for the Pistons but I doubt they'd trade Ivey. I think they're eager to see how the Cade-Ivey backcourt works out, plus Siakam (age 29) doesn't quite fit their long-term timeline. Pistons would be willing to give up other assets in that scenario but I doubt they'd give up Cade, Ivey or Duren in any deal.

Is Tobias Harris dealt on or before draft day? Is the return meaningful in any way?
Dana Gauruder
1:25
Harris' large expiring contract ($39 mill) has value, especially with the punitive penalties coming the next CBA. Whether it happens before or after the draft remains to be seen. Philly doesn't have a pick in the draft unless they acquire one in the next couple of days. But Tobias' contract could have just as much as value at the trade deadline (think Westbrook) -- if they're in decent position in February, they could parlay his contract for multiple assets at that time. So, Philly might be better off slow-playing when it comes to dealing him.

Chance I get taken by the Pistons at 5? They can really use my shooting and rim protection
Dana Gauruder
1:26
Hendricks is a wild card in this draft. His stock seems to have risen but perhaps Weaver gambles and trades down with the hope of getting him later in the lottery and picking up an asset along the way.

What kinds of trades do you see the Lakers making on draft night? Do you see them making a trade before draft night? Could Mike Budenholzer be an assistant coach for the Lakers?
Dana Gauruder
1:30
Obviously, the Lakers don't have many first rounders in the near future to dangle. They also have pressing concerns regarding signing some of their own free agents. They could pick up Beasley's option and combine his salary with Bamba's -- about 27 mill -- to acquire a player on a longer term deal. But more likely, I don't see the Lakers doing much before free agency.

How confident are you that the Suns can use their limited resources to build out a championship roster? Any predictions on how that happens?
Dana Gauruder
1:33
As mentioned earlier, one way would be to deal Ayton for multiple players. They could also re-sign some of their own free agents, such as Okogie. Beyond that, they'll have to be patient in free agency -- signing several players on veteran's minimums to round out the roster. Not ideal but that's the position they've put themselves in by trading for Durant and Beal.

Heat keep Bam…wait it out to trade deadline if needed for Dame, Can’t even say this, Kyrie as a back up plan???
Dana Gauruder
1:35
A sign-and-trade with the Mavs? Guess it's not out of the question but he doesn't seem a like a good fit into the Heat's "culture." Miami is looking for another impact player but I'd be very surprised if they were willing to put up with Irving and all the baggage he carries with him.

How much should teams buy into shooting breakouts? Guys like Stanley Johnson, Keita Bates-Diop, Mattisse Thybulle, Kris Dunn, and Jordan Nwora all made big jumps in their 3pt% from their career lines, and it was largely what the needed to be successful. Should teams bite, or wait and see?
Dana Gauruder
1:39
Most of the guys mentioned will probably be roster fillers for teams after the bigger name free agents come off the board. As a side issue, I am surprised the Players Association didn't hold out more in the CBA for expansion. More teams means more jobs -- obviously, there's a domino effect for every draft class coming in -- a bunch of vets get squeezed out to make room for the newcomers.
Ja Morant
1:39
Have I accepted my fate, or do i have any recourse to appeal my 25 game ban, since it seems excessive given I didn't break the law, and others have received lighter suspension after actually breaking laws
Dana Gauruder
1:45
The Players Association has called the suspension excessive but I doubt it will be reduced. It's due to a pattern of behavior and incidents. The latest video clip surfaced shortly after Morant served an eight-game suspension. The key for Morant is just to make a real effort to get the bad influences/decisions out of his life and maximize his potential on and off the court. He's got the ability to be a Hall of Fame player.

Any shot at Dame, if he becomes available, without parting with Herro? Lowry, Robinson, picks?
Dana Gauruder
1:47
Got to give up some big salaries and assets to absorb Lillard's contract. I'd think Lowry's expiring contract would be part of any such deal plus either Herro or Robinson to make the numbers work.

The Wizards were put in a really tough situation by prior management when it came to getting fair value for Brad Beal.  While we've seen teams jump start rebuilds by trading an asset for picks/young stars the Wiz weren't able to get anything of value for Beal (subsequent CP3 trade notwithstanding).  So, the Wiz are looking at a long rebuild and probably longer than necessary due to the Beal return.  How long do you think it will take the Wiz to get back into playoff contention (not championship, just playoff) based on where you see the roster now and what it might look like this year.
Dana Gauruder
1:51
Building from the bottom up. If you are a Wizards fan (sounds like are), buckle up. You're in for a lot of losing in the next few years, much like the Pistons and Rockets have gone through in recent seasons. You are correct that they blew it with Beal -- could have gotten a much bigger return if the previous regime had realized the supporting cast around Beal wasn't good enough and Beal himself is more of a No. 3 player on a really good team instead of the star. Rebuilding is painful but the Wizards need to hit the reset button and start accumulating draft picks and young players.
1:53
Regarding an earlier question on the Lakers, I doubt Budenholzer wants to be an assistant to one of his former assistant. I think he can sit back, enjoy his money and wait for another good head coaching job to materialize during the upcoming season or afterward.

What do you think Orlando will do on draft night?
Dana Gauruder
1:55
Got to think they'll be active with two lottery picks, right? Either try to package them and move up the ladder, or deal one of them for a veteran player/future asset. Logic dictates they'll be targeting a guard in the draft.

What is the most trades that happened on draft day?  I predict that this draft will have the most trades ever on draft day. After the first pick is taken any of those draft picks can be traded away. Do you agree?
Dana Gauruder
1:57
Don't know the exact figure but you are on the right track. There will be tons of movement heading into the draft and on draft night. Lots of teams looking to move up or down or trade into the first round. Several teams such as Magic, Pacers, Nets, Jazz with multiple first-rounders. And second round always has a lots of trades. It will be a head-spinning night.

So with Dray opting out in guessing to resign with GS for longer but cheaper. What would you guess?  I say 80mill for 4
Dana Gauruder
1:59
The average salary would seem to be a little low. Also, does Draymond have four good years left? I'd think maybe three years, $90 mill would be more likely.
