ARTHUR HILL
12:02
Welcome to this week's chat. We'll get started with a Lakers question.
Lakers
12:02
lets face it, this job just isn’t that appealing outside the brand. Subpar role players, old almost retired lebron, pressure to draft Bronny, and little to no draft picks
ARTHUR HILL
12:06
Although Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka reportedly made a great sales pitch to Dan Hurley, it's possible he decided he couldn't win in L.A. and didn't want that to be his first NBA experience. We don't know what the team will do on the trade market this summer, but there's a strong element of risk considering LeBron's age and Davis' injury history.

What can Bulls get for Zach Lavine?Do you think they will make a trade to.move up in the draft? What are your thoughts?
ARTHUR HILL
12:07
I think the Bulls would like to move up in the draft, but I don't know if they have the assets to get a deal done. I'm still skeptical about the market for LaVine. If they find a trade, it may wind up being more of a salary dump than an even exchange of assets.

Last year there was lots of talk about of Lottery teams trading picks and there ended up only being 2 small deals -- Wizards and Pacers shifting one spot and Dallas and OKC shifting 2 spots. Again this year there's lots of talk about many teams wanting to move around in the lottery. What's your best guess about how many lottery picks will change hands on draft night?
ARTHUR HILL
12:12
There are always many more rumors than trades that actually get done, but I could see a lot of activity this year. There's a lack of five-star prospects, and the mock drafts still vary widely on who belongs in the top five and top 10. The Rockets, Spurs, Pistons, Trail Blazers and Grizzlies are all teams to watch for possible deals.

I don’t buy all the talk of Orlando paying big for Thompson or George with all their young guys needing extensions soon. Maybe something like Malik Monk for depth. What would it take trade wise for an Anfernee Simons or Dejounte Murray? Would Isaac and a 1st rounder net you either of them?
ARTHUR HILL
12:15
I agree that Monk is a better fit considering the number of young players they're eventually going to have to pay. Thompson especially is a short-term investment for a team that should be focused on the long term. I would be hesitant to part with Isaac, even for guard help. The Magic are built around defense, and he's a big part of that.

The future Laker picks are looking pretty good since it looks like If LBJ retires or leaves as a FA we are over the cap and won't have any money to replace him.  The only way out that I see is a trade where we get assets back.  What do you think Lakers will do?
ARTHUR HILL
12:18
The Lakers will be very aggressive this summer about finding another star and then filling out the roster with better talent to fit alongside James and Davis. They have three draft picks that can be traded, and I expect them all to be in play for immediate upgrades.

The Knicks are close, but still need help getting over past the East's elite. Besides retaining their own free agents, how should they address the offseason and draft to improve? Thanks! GO NYK, GO NYK, GO!
ARTHUR HILL
12:21
I don't think they'll use both of their first-round picks, and they may trade both of them by draft night. Unless a huge star becomes available, I prefer keeping the current roster together to see what it can do if everyone is healthy. Re-signing Isaiah Hartenstein should be a priority, but it already looks like they'll have plenty of competition.

Are the T Wolves, "a guard that can create" away from true contenders. KAT for Trae?
ARTHUR HILL
12:25
They may be true contenders already. They were one of the three best teams in the West all season, and they were close in the first three games of the conference finals. Finding another guard who can create -- and an eventual replacement for Mike Conley -- should be an offseason priority. I wouldn't pick Trae Young, though. I don't think you want someone that ball-dominant playing alongside Anthony Edwards.

If you ran the hornets, what’s your plan for success in the next three years?
ARTHUR HILL
12:29
It's hard to preach patience to a fan base that hasn't experienced the playoffs for so long, but I think that's the best approach for Charlotte. The new GM and head coach both seem like good hires, and they'll need time to create their vision of the team. The Hornets have some good young pieces in place, especially if LaMelo Ball can stay healthy and live up to his potential. Brighter days are ahead for the franchise.
GrizzMan
12:30
Do you expect Marcus Smart to be a Grizz on opening night?
ARTHUR HILL
12:31
I think so. Injuries decimated the backcourt this season, and they never really got a chance to see what a healthy team would look like. I think they'll hold onto Smart unless they absolutely have to move him as part of a deal for a center.

Even though Dallas made the Finals, does this supporting cast impress you enough?
ARTHUR HILL
12:37
Everyone was raving about the supporting cast throughout the playoffs, but they haven't been good in the first two Finals games. A lot of credit should go to the Celtics, who are a much tougher opponent than the Mavericks faced in the West. I wouldn't expect any kind of offseason shakeup. The front office should trust its instincts, especially on Gafford and Washington, who have only been with the team for a few months.

What moves do you expect for the Pacers?  You see the resigning Obi & Siakam?
ARTHUR HILL
12:39
Siakam for sure. I don't think they would have traded for him if they weren't planning to re-sign him, and the playoffs confirmed his value to the team. Toppin proved he's a good fit with an offense that likes to push the pace. Indiana won't overspend, but I think they'd like to keep him.

P George to sixers seems like a no brainer, any way to swing a jimmy B trade in there as well from a salary perspective?
ARTHUR HILL
12:42
I feel like it's one or the other, and of course there's no guarantee the Sixers will land either of them. Embiid and Maxey will be the first options on offense, and you don't want too many players who need the ball in their hands. I would prefer George to Butler, but there's no guarantee the Clippers are letting him go.

12:43
how long do you think we wait before we get a decision on Monty Williams??
ARTHUR HILL
12:45
It should happen soon. The draft and free agency aren't far away, and Trajan Langdon is going to want to know who his coach is. I wouldn't be surprised to hear a final decision by this weekend.
Klay Thompson
12:46
How much money would you give me if you were an NBA team?
ARTHUR HILL
12:48
Thompson's age and injury history would limit my offer if I were a GM. Maybe a lucrative short-term deal if I had a contender that needed shooting help. But I don't think my offer would be better than the Warriors'.
Troell
12:48
Is Mikal Bridges the real answer for Philly?  And is he worth 5 FRPs that they can offer on draft night?  For that compensation I feel like they should be getting Kevin Durant.
ARTHUR HILL
12:50
Some of the reported rumors involving Bridges seem out of touch with his actual value. The Nets keep saying they don't want to part with him, so maybe that's driving up the price among those who create the rumors. Five first-rounders is way too much.

12:50
Understandably, OKC hasn't made a significant offseason upgrade in a while. What are the odds that actually changes this offseason, FA or trade? Put another way, are they now officially pursuing championships?
ARTHUR HILL
12:52
I believe they're ready to move to that level, and the rumor that they're preparing a big offer for Isaiah Hartenstein provides evidence. The playoffs showed OKC needs help in the middle, so that's going to be the next move, whether it's Hartenstein or someone else.
Draft day popular picks?
12:53
How much trade value do you think pick 31 (and to an extent 32) will end up having with the full day lead-up? And are there other picks/pick ranges that you think will also draw a lot of bidders (eg maybe 10-13 if teams want to catch lottery fallers)
ARTHUR HILL
12:55
Changing the draft to two nights is going to raise the value of those early second-round picks. Instead of going straight to the second round, teams will have a full day to re-examine who's left on the board. It could be a huge benefit, especially for the Raptors at No. 31.

I am curious to see what Mike Dunleavy does.  Do you think Klay, C Paul and K Looney are gone.  Who could the warriors get to improve the team that would make them a contender again
ARTHUR HILL
12:56
I think Paul is gone, and Looney doesn't seem to be in the team's plans anymore. I still expect Klay to be re-signed, if only to keep Curry, Green and Kerr happy.

Hawks are open for business. #1 is available.  One of Trae/Dejounte is available.  Hunter, Capela, Bogdanovic?  Will they actually get anything done or run it back plus the #1 pick?
ARTHUR HILL
12:58
The last two seasons have shown that running it back isn't a good idea. At minimum, the Murray/Young backcourt should be broken up this summer.

If Hartenstein leaves via free agency, how should the Knicks prioritize improving the roster? Trade Randle?
