Quinn Synder had a quarter of the season or about 20 games to evaluate the situation. He was 10/10 about what the Hawks were all along and the season .500. I’m thinking there is going to be major roster moves this off season and while Trae id my favorite player on the team and franchises have to be careful about letting go of their star player. I think they should cut their losses. As a Hawks fan they seem to play better team ball when he is off the courtWhat do you think?? Thanks.
Dana Gauruder
2:04
It will be one of the bigger storylines of this offseason. We've seen star players push coaches out many times. This could be the rare case where the coach pushes out a star player. Snyder came in with the promise of having a big say in personnel. If he doesn't think he can win big with Trae, it's best for both parties to split. Then it gets complicated. In most cases, star players are dealt for a boatload of draft picks, salary-matching vets and a young player or two. This could be a case where the star is dealt for another star who needs a change of scenery Maybe something along the lines of a Young-LaVine type swap -- just throwing that out there, but I don't think the Hawks want to go into full rebuild if they deal Young.

Hornets will make the play in next year? Buy or sell could we have a poll for this?🏀
Dana Gauruder
2:06
We could do that poll sometime, although my gut feeling is it would be resounding no. Charlotte is another team that figures to be very active this offseason. I think you'll see major roster changes. Of course, improvement hinges greatly on whether LaMelo can stay on the court more often next season. Hard to win without your best players.
Game 82
2:06
Have you ever seen a more eventful end of regular season that had nothing to do with seeding? Fights, injuries, suspensions.
Dana Gauruder
2:09
Boy, that was nutty. Due to the play-in -- a teams trying to move up to avoid it in the West -- there was some actual drama. I don't think I've ever seen a team implode like the Wolves did on Sunday -- and then end up winning! Really going to be tough for them to win tonight with a depleted frontcourt.

Raptors pieces don't seem to fit. Is there a chance that Siakam and Barnes will never work together? Does that mean Siakam will have to go?
Dana Gauruder
2:13
As I stated here last week, the first domino may be the head coach. There was a lot of buzz in the second half about Nurse's status and he fanned the flames by basically saying he wasn't sure whether he wanted to stick out. I don't know if the Siakam-Barnes pairing is a total failure. I don't see it mirroring the Pacers issues with Sabonis and Turner playing together the previous season. I just think they need a more refocused Barnes next season. Seems like, for whatever reason, he wasn't the same energetic, impactful player he was as a rookie.

2:14
Do you see Grant Willians and Payton Pritchard staying at Boston or leaving next season? Thanks!
Dana Gauruder
2:16
Pritchard is under contract for next season, though I think he'd play more on a lot of other teams. He could be thrown into a trade, perhaps, but Boston doesn't have to make a decision on him until summer 2024. As for Williams, he'll be an RFA. I think Boston will extend him a QO and Williams can explore the market. Unless sometimes blows them out of the water with a big offer sheet, I think Williams will stick around.

2:17
Will the Blazers trade a combination 2 of Simons, Sharpe and 1st rounder 2023 and be able to get a star or at least someone like Anunoby? Is it worth it?
Dana Gauruder
2:20
I'm sure you saw Damian's comments that he wants the front office to acquire impactful, proven players. I think you're on the right path -- they'll have to move some young players and draft picks to make that happen. Portland is another team that will try to make some major roster moves.

Who is the best choice for Detroit's next coach
Dana Gauruder
2:24
They're not lacking for candidates, from what I've seen. It wouldn't surprise me if they brought in a guy with experience -- such as Udoka, Nurse or Atkinson. The Pistons are aching to make that next step with a roster loaded with young players. That's a tough task for a guy who hasn't been a head coach previously, or at least has some background with the players -- that's why Kalamian may have a shot.

Jalen Suggs was an awful pick for the Magic, they have to trade him now before it gets worse. Agree?
Dana Gauruder
2:29
I'm sure if they could do it all over again, they'd take Giddey. The Magic have a nice forward combo and the next step would be to upgrade the backcourt. They could hope Suggs -- still on a rookie contract -- can at least be a solid second-unit PG. A lot depends on how the lottery shakes out. If they move up and could draft Scoot Henderson, that could change the equation.

What do you think will happen to the Dallas Mavericks regarding sitting players to decrease the odds their draft pick transfers to the New York Knicks?
Dana Gauruder
2:33
I don't think much will come of it. Most of the league was resting healthy players, or those with minor injuries, in the last month of the season. If the league penalizes Dallas, where do you draw the line? Some of the lineups that teams threw out there in recent weeks were embarrassing. I know the Mavs situation was a little different because of potential draft implications but I still don't how the league could justify punishing them and doing nothing about all these other teams holding out top players.

Lavine and a pick for Trey Young, who says no
Dana Gauruder
2:34
I think the trade would have more moving parts but that's the kind of trade I believe Atlanta would pursue if it decided to put Trae on the market.

Who gets a bigger contract between DLO and Fred VanFleet?    I feel like its Fred
Dana Gauruder
2:40
Agreed. He's helped the Lakers and that may be where he winds up. But the Timberwolves weren't interested in re-signing him, at least not for big bucks. He's bounced around the league a bit. VanVleet will have a somewhat bigger market. He has more of a "winning" resume.

Is Kyle Anderson a reasonable target for the Cavs at the 3, and if so, what would they have to give up?
Dana Gauruder
2:43
While the Timberwolves suspended Gobert, they weren't exactly thrilled with KA, either. He went over the line with his verbal attack and has a rep of being blunt. But he is a solid all-around player and his contract is quite reasonable ($9 mill). Small forward is one area the Cavs may want to shore up but let's see how the postseason plays out.

Will the raptors make the move to get Pgeorge this offseason hearing package is Van fleet and Pascal for pg and norm Powell w a draft swap
Dana Gauruder
2:46
That won't happen unless FVV opts in and I don't see that happening. It's almost a given he'll enter the free agent market. Same with Trent.

One of the most frustrating things in watching Laker games is AD standing in the paint for 5,6, sometimes seven seconds every defensive possession and never is he called for a three-second violation. Why do you think this is?
Dana Gauruder
2:51
As long as you're within an arm's length of the player you're guarding, you can stay in the lane beyond 3 seconds. And AD does have really long arms. I'll make note of that in the play-in game and see if AD is in violation of that rule. But it's supposed to be called if you're just hanging around in lane and not guarding anyone in particular.

This might be the biggest offseason for the Mavericks coming up this summer and they obviously have to re sign Kyrie.  After that who do they go after next?
Dana Gauruder
2:54
Gosh, I don't know if I'd want to re-sign Kyrie if I were the Mavs. They didn't exactly take off after acquiring him. I'd recommend taking an entirely different approach, dumping some salary to gain some flexibility.
Keith

If the Celtics flame out in the playoffs would you trade Jaylen Brown for Trae Young?
Dana Gauruder
2:57
I wouldn't unless I had another deal lined up for a quality forward. You'd be awfully thin at the forward spots.
Willi
2:58
What logic was behind the contract between the Rockets and Willie Cauley Stein? He did not play in the last game, and the contract does not include a second year.
Dana Gauruder
2:59
To me, it looked like to be a little monetary reward to Cauly Stein for playing on their G League team most of the season. He'll be an unrestricted FA in the summer.
Daniel
2:59
Any chance the Mavericks could get Siakam and Myles Turner this summer?
Dana Gauruder
3:00
The Pacers reached an extension on Turner and I don't think he'll be on the market. It's possible the Raptors might shake things up but what do they have in terms of assets that would attract the Raptors' attention?
