Should the Cavs stick to the buyout market for upgrades? They have no firsts and all of their rotation players matter to their current scheme a lot.
Dana Gauruder
10:01
The way they are playing, there's no compelling need to make a trade. I was baffled in recent weeks when I got questions about the Cavs needing to do something drastic. They're really good when they have all their pieces.

Talk Suns to me. Can they make a big move or some moves to put them over the top in their conference and take them to the Finals?
Dana Gauruder
10:03
They've been very creative in making moves since Ishbia became the owner. They have found ways to make moves, even with depleted assets. I sense they'll make at least one trade this week.

With the performance of Vince Williams, do you believe the decision to decline the team option of $14.7 million for Luke Kennard is more likely?
Dana Gauruder
10:05
With this Grizzlies season being basically a mulligan due to all the injuries, you might see Kennard get traded this week. If they don't, they'll have a lot of decisions to make this offseason but $14.7 million isn't prohibitive and he'll still have some trade value.

Is locking into wiggin’s contract really worth it?  With a new deal for pascal they would take away any flexibility going forward
Dana Gauruder
10:07
The Pacers have been pretty smart financially with the moves they've made in the last couple years. I'd be pretty surprised if they acquired Wiggins, knowing they'll want to retain Siakam.

Am I crazy to think that at Warriors should use CP & Wigs contract to pursue Ben Simmons?  Gives Ws size and playmaking missing on roster…frees up rotation space for MM and GP3…
Dana Gauruder
10:09
There would have to be more salaries involved to make ti happen. I don't know if the Nets would have a lot of incentive to make that move. They have an overload of forwards as it is.

does miles bridges and pj Washington make sense for the mavs? i see they have interest in washington but not bridges, why is that?
Dana Gauruder
10:11
The Mavs have prioritized PFs over SFs. They want more size. Plus, Washington has a team-friendly contract and is signed for two more years. Bridges would be a rental.
Ben Simmons

Some of Amen and Ausar Thompson’s 3-point attempts have been cringe-inducing. Continue to hoist (in order to prevent fear from creeping in and total loss of confidence) and hope to correct form in the offseason?
Dana Gauruder
10:14
They are rookies -- they have plenty of time to develop their perimeter strokes. They both have other skills. Ausar, for example, is an excellent rebounder and passer. He can develop into a plus defender. Obviously, his offensive game is a work in progress.

Good morning is it time to consider trading Trae Young and keeping Murray as the point guard? He seems to do a better job of getting his teammates involved. Trae is a star for sure but his impact doesn’t correlate to winning. Do you agree? Thanks.
Dana Gauruder
10:17
If you put together a list of star or superstar players that might be dealt in the next year or two, I'd say Young would be high on the list. The Hawks have regressed since that playoff run a couple years ago. That being said, there haven't been any rumblings regarding Young being traded this week. I could see something develop in the offseason with one of those teams that have been hording first round picks.

You’re in charge of the hornets: what moves do you make this week, this offseason, and next year to be consistently competitive within 5 years?
Dana Gauruder
10:20
From all indications, the Hornets are very active in trade talks. Obviously, they've already dealt Rozier. They're looking to see if it's worth dealing Lowry's expiring deal or just buying him out and enjoying the cap savings in the offseason. PJ and Bridges are both trade candidates. They could also move Hayward's contract if they're willing to take a contract or two beyond the season in return.

The pistons need to move as many players they can for future picks but why is Troy Weaver still employed and at this point will he even make a move to help the team?
Dana Gauruder
10:22
LaVine's injury prevented the Pistons from making a potentially disastrous trade with the Bulls. They might move Burks, Bogie and/or Morris if they get an asset in return. I'd be quite surprised if they could find a taker for Hayes -- I doubt he has any trade value.

Assuming nothing significant happens by the deadline for the contending teams, what does your crystal ball tell you as to who will be the final four teams remaining for the conference championships?
Dana Gauruder
10:25
Boston, Denver, Phoenix, Milwaukee

Could the warriors even get back anything valuable for Chris Paul or best they keep him and let the contract expire to save luxury tax?
Dana Gauruder
10:26
Depends on what you consider valuable. Would they want a player who has a contract beyond this season in return? Doubt it. Paul's non-guaranteed deal is a big way for them to shed salary this offseason.

Sixers!!! What do they do? Drummond seems like a no-brainer, but what do you think their most likely move is?
Dana Gauruder
10:29
The Sixers are a prime example of how things can change in a hurry. It goes from 'What kind of impact player can we get to help Joel and Maxey?' to 'Is the season already lost?' Drummond would be the type of stopgap move to help them hold the fort. Then they've got to hope Embiid's timetable is on the 1-2 month side, rather than a season ender.

Will Malcolm Brogdon get his wish and not get traded?
Dana Gauruder
10:31
Those reports were kind of surprising. Perhaps Brogdon is just sick of moving from one city to another. Portland would have to deal him if it got a good enough offer -- he obviously doesn't fit its long-term timetable. But it is refreshing that a veteran player would rather settle down, despite the team's record.

Brandon Miller looks like a stud, is that a product of a bad team that lets him be the guy or is this real? Him and Melo good enough starting point of a turn around?
Dana Gauruder
10:34
There's your 2 building blocks. You just hope LaMelo's injury issues don't persist, like his brother's woes. There were doubts that Miller could be  a top-level player. The concerns coming into the draft were off-court issues. Yes, it helps the stats that he's on a bad team but he's the real deal.

Can we expect Gabe Vincent to play this year?  If not, I see a minor move like Dennis Schroeder where they don't have to include that 1st rd pick or use the salary of rotation pieces.  Agree?
Dana Gauruder
10:36
I've got to believe the Lakers will do SOMETHING in the next couple of days. Fortifying the backcourt would at or near the top of the list.

in most of these games, the lack of size seems to be an issue. could a rim/paint protector be on the way?
Dana Gauruder
10:37
Don't know if you saw Kerr's comments this week but he basically regards Draymond as a '5' at this stage of his career. And there are many teams going smaller and smaller, even in their closing lineups.

How serious are the Portis trade talks?
Dana Gauruder
10:39
If the Bucks really want to make a splashy move, they'll likely have to include Portis. A lower level move, it's more likely they'll deal Connaughton and another bench player.

If Donovan Mitchell isn't traded and plays out his contract with Cleveland, do the Cavs have an advantage over other teams as far as the amount they can offer him on a new contract?
Dana Gauruder
10:41
Sure, that's the way the system is set up.

Can you give a list of potential buy out candidates?  Is Gordon Hayward unlikely to want a buy out, so he can retain his Bird rights for his next conttravt
Dana Gauruder
10:43
We have to see how the trade market shakes out before we could figure out what the buyout market will look like. As for Hayward, I was surprised to see that report about Hornets unlikely to buy him out if he's not dealt. I don't see how he fits into their long-term plans.
