Realistic buyout targets for the Cavs? Do they just keep rolling with the same roster and ignore their flaws?
Dana Gauruder
2:03
Will Barton is out there now, so perhaps they'll look at him if they want another option at the wing. Otherwise, I think they'll roll with what they have.

What's the next move? Pick up Barton or allow Lee to run back up PG until Payne returns?
Dana Gauruder
2:05
There's been so many changes in the last few weeks to that roster, probably the last thing they need to do is add another newcomer. Could be quite an interesting mix when everyone's healthy. There will be some guys who have been playing regularly who will lose significant minutes.
John Wall
2:05
Am I signing anywhere this year or am I sitting out this year
Dana Gauruder
2:06
I don't know about sitting out. More a question of whether anyone will take a flyer on Wall now. He was in a good situation and didn't get the job done for a contender.

Does Derek Rose get a buyout
Dana Gauruder
2:07
Last I heard, he was content to stay with the Knicks and be a mentor for the younger guys there. If he really wanted a buyout, he should have done it sooner because some of the PG openings have already been filled (Clippers, Bulls).
KJ

Where would you think would be a good spot or where do you see Will Barton going now that his buyout is completed
Dana Gauruder
2:09
He can't go back to the Nuggets by NBA rules. As I mentioned earlier, Cavs might be a possibility. I just wonder if he'll play much no matter where he goes.
Jaylen Brown
2:09
So I think I echoed the settlement of everyone on Sunday saying that the All-Star Game is becoming a big joke. What would you do to improve the product at this point. I'm thinking maybe something like you still take 24 players but do look at three on three tournament or something like that
Dana Gauruder
2:12
You will see a Community Shootaround on this very subject later today. I don't know if adding more players would make it more interesting/entertaining. Stan Van Gundy mentioned paying the winning team a million apiece. I don't know if that will fly but there's got to be some incentive to make it more than a offensive exhibition. One thing for sure -- they've got to go back to the East vs. West format, in my estimation. This picking the teams at the last minute is a joke in itself.

Should the Timberwolves look into trading Kat this summer? They seem to be playing fine without him.
Dana Gauruder
2:15
Interesting idea. They're so heavily invested in Gobert, and Towns has struggled to stay healthy. He'll also be entering the final year of his contract. He might be the type of player that another contender might give up serious assets for, which at the same time would offset some the asset depletion caused by the Gobert move. I certainly wouldn't rule it out.
KJ
2:15
With all due respect, with a few exceptions normally once you get a buyout the rest of your career is minimum contracts or mid-level contracts at best and your career is more closer to the end so up all the recent buyout people so far who do you think unfortunately is probably going to be on their last team in the NBA
Dana Gauruder
2:18
That's correct. If a player is bought out after the trade deadline, it speaks to the fact that his value has dropped. Otherwise, they would have been traded for assets. Or they get traded to a team that doesn't really want them, they're just acquired along with draft capital or other assets. Beverley is a case in point.

Ignoring any worries about fit, which team do you think would be the ideal landing spot for Victor? Doesn’t have to be one of bottom dwellers even though they have better odds of selecting first.
Dana Gauruder
2:22
I really think he'll fit anywhere he goes. The Pistons, for example, would be instantly transformed if you drop him in with a healthy Cunningham, plus Ivey and Duren. San Antonio would be a great landing spot, too -- Pops would be a great teacher.
Sean Marks
2:23
Will I fill the last remaining standard roster spot by March 1? I understand that the goal should be keeping the luxury tax low and allowing Jacque to work with the players he already has, since several are not seeing the court already.  However, having injury depth in the event of a potential playoff run is very important as well. There have been calls to get another big.  However, we may want to prevent another team from poaching Chris Chiozza. He's been very impressive in Long Island.
Dana Gauruder
2:25
As long as the Nets have 14 players on standard contracts, they don't have to fill a spot. And their hopes of being a major playoff contender have been erased, though they have plenty of depth -- just no star power anymore. Certainly, there's no incentive to go over the tax. And what's the use of adding someone unless they're going to get PT?
Bey
2:25
I was a little surprised the Pistons moved Bey just to land another young center in Wiseman when their frontcourt rotation is already pretty full. What was it about Bey the Pistons didn’t like? Defense? Not like Wiseman has shown much on that end and they’re still a really bad shooting team. Thought it was a bit odd.
Dana Gauruder
2:29
My view of that is Bey had already established himself as a good, solid rotation player but he'll never be more than that. I don't think they wanted to invest heavily in him long-term. Weaver had Wiseman as his top prospect in that 2020 draft and is gambling he'll reach his potential in a lower-pressure environment. What I found interesting, too, was that they kept Bogie and supposedly gave him a heads up on their future plans. Perhaps they have another forward they'll pursue in free agency or via trade that they feel has more upside.
Harden
2:30
Let’s say Philly loses in the second round of the playoffs again. What team will Harden be on next season if that happens?
Dana Gauruder
2:32
Remember Harden has a $35.64 mill option on his contract. He did change reps recently but if things don't go well in the postseason, he'd have to seriously considering opting in. Would he leave that kind of money on the table if all he could in free agency was someone's mid-level? It's more likely Harden opts out if he and the team have a strong playoff run.

What’s Killian Hayes ceiling? He’s had an interesting year, defense and playmaking seems like it will settle well above average but might be a worse shooter than my 3 year old, backup PG on a good team?
Dana Gauruder
2:35
Hayes has shown improvement this year, though in recent games he's struggled. I'm still not sold on his future. He's only going to be a second unit with Detroit once Cade returns next season. The team has already exercised its option on him for next season, so he'll have another season to show if he can step up his offensive production. If he doesn't, he'll either get dealt or they'll let him become an unrestricted FA.
Favorite trade?
2:35
Which deadline deal was the most interesting to you? Did any stand out?
Dana Gauruder
2:38
Certainly, the Irving and Durant deals were significant, though I don't think it really helped the Mavs. Durant with the Suns could be exciting if he, Paul and Booker are healthy in playoffs  -- huge if there. I'm also interested to see how D'Angelo Russell will do in his second stint with the Lakers.

Why aren’t the Celtics intriguing to guys that have been bought out? Is it the weather?
Dana Gauruder
2:39
There has to be mutual interest, right? Perhaps the Celtics are content with what they have. Maybe they'll take a flyer on Barton if he wants to go there.

What are your thoughts on Luka winning the MVP after the signing of Kyrie? My thoughts is Jokic should win it, but I feel the haters won't allow him to 3peat and leave the door open for Luka to win it even tho the team record would say otherwise
Dana Gauruder
2:42
It's still pretty wide open among several players. Some of it is predicated on how their teams finish up. Tatum could work his way into the equation and Embiid is still a strong candidate, too, if the Sixers finish strong. Giannis was blowing up before he dinged his wrist last week but he's not expected to miss too many games. I really see that MVP race going to the wire and the vote could be very close.
Heat
2:43
K Love I assume would be starting. Any gas left in the tank? Should be relatively fresh and healthy
Dana Gauruder
2:45
Miami has been looking for a bigger option at PF. Doesn't mean Love will step into the starting unit, nor does it mean he'll be on the floor in crunch time. A lot of it is predicated on how he meshes up front with Bam. He can stretch defenses with his outside shooting, so he's got a shot to be a decent contributor down the stretch.

Should blazers blow it up and trade lillard? They seem to be stuck being mediocre
Dana Gauruder
2:49
The Blazers will trade Lillard only if he demands one. The organization is heavily invested in him, and he's been loyal throughout. Perhaps some other stars will try to convince him to join forces with them and he'll make that demand. But thus far, he's resisted that temptation during his many years in Portland.

Zach Lavine gets traded to the Knicks this offseason, true or false? Knicks want a star and Demar is much easier to sell personality wise in Chicago
Dana Gauruder
2:51
There was some rumored interest there and I have to believe the Bulls will be active this summer. A Lavine-Brunson-Randle core would be a nice trio. I could certainly see that happening, depending on how the Knicks do in the playoffs this year.

Where do you see D'Angelo Russell's next contract falling if he is coming off of 30M.  Its got to be closer to 20M per year right?
Dana Gauruder
2:53
That may be optimistic. If he's a difference maker for the Lakers, that could change the equation. But it wouldn't shock me if he has to settle for someone's mid-level. I don't think teams with cap space are going to be clamoring for his services.
