What do my Raptors do? The plan has always been to hoard talent and then trade in some of that talent/draft capital for a missing star. Tearing down makes no sense.
Dana Gauruder
11:03
I addressed a similar question last week. I am of the mind that drastic measures are not necessary despite the record. Like many teams, the Raptors have been missing key pieces a good chunk of the season. Barnes has been in the proverbial sophomore slump but there was a reason Toronto refused to consider moving him in a potential blockbuster for Durant this summer. Siakam is one of the top bigs in the league, VanVleet and Anunoby are also quality starters. I'd rather see them try to upgrade their bench than sell off FVV and Anunoby for assets.

Can the Timberwolves' season be salvaged? How do they fix it?
Dana Gauruder
11:08
Think they're already having buyer's regret regarding Gobert? Sure seems that way. Kind of hard to fix it when you've given up so many assets. First thing is to get KAT back in action, but that's not happening in the short run. Perhaps Russell's expiring deal can get them some assets, otherwise it's just going to be a disappointing season in Minnesota.

11:08
Would it make sense for the kings to trade assets for a stronger playoff push or build through the draft.
Dana Gauruder
11:11
I doubt the Kings will do anything drastic but any move they make will be to improve their postseason prospects. They need to end the playoff drought and if they get there, would be nice to win a round, too. Their big concern now is that Sabonis can play through that thumb injury without doing more damage. Won't go anywhere if they lose him. I'd think they'll look for another frontcourt piece for insurance.

Any chance I could move LaVine for a tall, wide PF that can shoot like Christian Wood? Bulls *desperately* need size.
Dana Gauruder
11:14
Unless the Bulls can sustain a hot streak -- they've won four of their last five -- they'll consider all options. Moving LaVine would be a consideration but with that pricey long-term contract plus LaVine's gimpy knees, a contender would really have to value him as the missing piece to a title. I think it's more likely DeRozan will be traded, if the Bulls go that route.

So frustrated with the lack of urgency on the Suns making a deal for a Frontline scorer who can actually get to the free throw line more than 2 times a game!  Do you see Kuzma deal or someone else happening soon?
Dana Gauruder
11:17
I doubt that the Suns anticipated holding onto Crowder this long. They're trying to be patient and wait for the best offer. Their more immediate concern is not having their best player for at least a month. It's going to be a struggle for them to get through this stretch without dropping into play-in tournament territory.

11:18
What would it realistically take for the Lakers to get either LaVine or DeRozan?
Dana Gauruder
11:20
The Bulls would have to be motivated to shed a big salary for cap relief -- Westbrook's contract would certainly fit the bill, particularly in LaVine's case. Certainly not out of the question. Another scenario would be a three-team deal. But I don't think the Lakers could do that without Westbrook's contract, and perhaps those 2027/29 first-rounders, being part of the package.

What can we get for a few of our supporting players on the Trade market ?  Assuming Franz and Banchero are building blocks, can we fetch a 1st for Bamba or Fulz ?
Dana Gauruder
11:24
I don't think either player at this point would get them a lottery pick but a protected first rounder is a possibility. The team acquiring either of them would have to view Fultz as an upgrade to their current point man or Bamba as being better than whoever they're starting up front. I don't think many teams would give up a future first rounders for a second unit player.

11:25
The Mavs could really use some size, rebounding and defense at the PF position ... what would a John Collins trade to the Mavs look like?
Dana Gauruder
11:29
Collins' salary is in the mid-$20 million range, so salary matching probably wouldn't be an issue. Powell's expiring deal might be an attractive piece for the Hawks but I'd think they'd probably want a rotation player in return, such as DFS or Josh Green. I don't see the Hawks doing anything that would hamper their postseason chances after going all in on the Murray deal.
Buyout market
11:29
Is it too early to talk Buyout Candidates?  Who might be on that List ?
Dana Gauruder
11:34
Indeed it's too early, as some of these players' salaries might come in handy in a possible deal. Usually vets that aren't playing much or might lose their rotation spot after the dust settles (Thad Young, D. Rose, Barton, Beverley). But until some trades are made and we get closer to the deadline, it's pure speculation.

Let the Mark Williams era begin at Center, and Nick Richards can be his Backup.  He just has so much Potential.  Can we get anything for Plumlee ?
Dana Gauruder
11:35
He's got an expiring contract, so that may help facilitate a trade. If he's not dealt, then (noting the previous question) he'd be a buyout candidate.
Keith
11:36
Orlando/Boston trade? Would Orlando trade Mo Bamba for Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard?
Dana Gauruder
11:39
The Magic seem to have more point guards than they know what to do with, so acquiring Pritchard wouldn't make much sense. So they'd have to really value Williams to make that move. It might make sense from the Celtics' perspective because it would give them more size up front. Also more insurance in case R. Williams' knee flares up again.
Boogie Cousins fan
11:41
Is DeMarcus Cousins or Hassan Whiteside playing in the GLeague?  Might be time to put their Ego aside and at least stay in shape playing games down there, ala Willie Cauley-Stein .....
Dana Gauruder
11:42
To my knowledge, I don't believe either is in the G League or considering that as an option.
Keith
11:42
I still believe a John Collins trade to Boston would work for Grant Williams, Derrick White, and a protected 1st round pick. This trade can be a win/win for both parties. Thoughts?
Dana Gauruder
11:44
I could that as an option. Like the Bamba deal, it would give the Celtics more size up front. White would be a solid backup for Murray/Young. The Celtics could plug Pritchard into White's rotation spot instead of trading him.

Even though Harden is a great player, his timeline doesn’t match the Rockets. Unless they got Wemby. How do you think a starting lineup of Harden, Green, KJ Martin(?), Jabari, Wemby would fair in the West? Otherwise, I don’t think bringing him back would be smart.
Dana Gauruder
11:47
Makes absolutely no sense for the Rockets to pursue Harden. They're building a nice young core and they've got a shot to add another major piece in the draft. Harden kind of reminds me of Larry Brown, who never seemed happy wherever he went. Why would you want to leave a contender for a rebuilding club at this stage of his career? I'd be surprised if Harden wound up back in Houston.

11:48
Warriors in a tough position with both 2 way players playing a lot of minutes and using up their max games played.  Which one has the better chance of going to a full contract since the warriors have 1 spot open on the roster?
Dana Gauruder
11:51
Right now, I'd lean toward Jerome. He's been so efficient and really given them a boost with Curry out. Question becomes whether any minutes will be there when Steph gets back but Jerome has earned serious consideration for that roster spot.

11:51
I believe the Nets are one power forward away from being a legitimate championship contender. Do you see any trade possibilities?
Dana Gauruder
11:55
They have a surplus of wings and Warren has given them a boost lately. Not sure what the market is for Cam Thomas at this point but he's a young player in need of minutes elsewhere. Perhaps they could acquire a frontcourt piece with Thomas part of the package. Otherwise, the Nets might just wait to see what's on the buyout market after the trade deadline expires. They're doing quite well with what they have at the moment.
Chris
11:55
What would wizards  do at the trade deadline ?
Dana Gauruder
11:58
Reading the tea leaves, you'd think they'll see what they can get Kuzma. He's got that player option, which he'll decline so that he can be a free agent. There's a player that could help push a contender over the top. Beyond that, I think anybody not named Beal or Porzingis (maybe) can be had for the right price. Certainly, they have to be regretting their lottery pick.

11:58
How many games should Hayes get? He crossed the line
Dana Gauruder
11:59
Stay tuned. I have to believe suspensions will be handed out this afternoon.

Should the Heat blow it up?  Doesn’t seem like they will ever be able to win a championship with this team and no viable options to add another star.
Dana Gauruder
12:00
It's not Pat Riley's style. He's not in the business of rebuilding, especially at this stage of his career. I'd be very surprised if the Heat took that approach.
