Dalen Terry (not a bust, lol jk)
12:01
Bulls are gonna trade Zach to Miami and reunite Demar and Kyle, do nothing for the future of the franchise just tryin to keep seats filled through the season aren’t they? Bulls fandom is misery
Dana Gauruder
12:02
I don't think this season will go well for the Bulls. Seemed like everyone but the Bulls front office thought it was a bad idea to essentially run it back this season. I do think they'll eventually have to come to their senses and go in firesale mode, especially now that it's public Zach is willing to play elsewhere.
12:03
By the way, as I started last week, I'm going to bring up a topic and let you respond. We will get back to your responses at the end of the hour. It's the same as Community Shootaround I did last night -- which teams do you think will finish with the worst records in each conference?

What is the problem with Clippers?  Losing at home to Denv missing their top 3 players is inexcusable. Should Ty be on hot seat?
Dana Gauruder
12:07
There were quite a few stories written about how the Clippers were coming along prior to last night. They had won four of the last five and then regressed vs. the depleted Nuggets. As I've stated before, I don't think this Clippers setup will work. Their problems in recent years have been more related to Leonard and George being unable to stay healthy. They didn't need a ball-dominant player like Harden to join them. I don't think Ty is in any trouble. Doubt anything happens with him, unless they're really floundering midway through the season.

12:07
What Euro players could you see joining the league next year?
Dana Gauruder
12:09
It's a good question kevduce but I would have to take a long look at the draft-and-stash guys to give you a solid answer. Perhaps Luke would be a better source during his chat on Thursday.

Do you believe Lauri Markkanen should be available?  What type of return should Utah reasonably expect?  From Knicks (Fournier and 1 unprotected 1st round pick and 1 protected 1st round pick), from Orlando Magic (2 1st round picks, with heavy protection on 1), from Oklahoma City Thunder (Giddey and Pokusevski).  Any other teams do you believe would and/or should be interested?
Dana Gauruder
12:11
I would really be surprised if Lauri was made available. He had a breakout season last year, I don't think the Jazz are looking to shop him 20 games into this season. I don't know if that bigger frontcourt can work longterm -- maybe they'll have to eventually make Collins a second unit guy. Utah should get better, especially defensively, with Kessler back in the lineup.
Question from my nephew
12:12
Strange question here but I told my nephew I would ask. When NBA players are traveling and sleeping in various hotel rooms, how are the hotels accommodating them with beds? King size beds aren't even going to be big enough for some of them. Do they keep a stash of beds for player or how does that work?
Dana Gauruder
12:14
Covered the NBA for many years -- never asked any of them that question. They stay, of course, at luxury hotels and I'm sure they must have adequately-sized beds to accommodate them. Put it this way -- I've never heard an NBA player complain they had a bad game because their bed was too short the night before.
Knicks
12:14
Knicks need a second go to scorer at end of games and it’s not Randle.  Who is possibly available that they can package Randle with and include picks this trade deadline.  I think they need a SF push Barrett to SG also
Dana Gauruder
12:16
That's big a major question hovering over the Knicks since they signed him to that extension -- can they really go deep into the playoffs with Randle as one of their top 2 or 3 players? That's why you hear his name pop up in trade rumors -- KAT, LaVine, etc. The hard part is will any other contender view Randle as a major piece and take on his contract?

12:16
Which team do you think has the better future with its current roster, the Magic or the Rockets? both have really promising young talent that just keeps improving, but which one do you think is going to make more noise in the playoffs in these next couple of years?
Dana Gauruder
12:19
Orlando has surprised me somewhat. Love the forward duo but didn't see them being 12-5 at this juncture. If I had to choose, I'd go with Houston. Sengun has really developed into a force. Two talented lottery guys in Green and Smith in the lineup, plus the addition of a floor and locker room leader in FVV.

Is Middleton of the Bucks going to be that 3rd scorer they need or will he continue to barely play
Dana Gauruder
12:22
I was somewhat surprised they gave Middleton three years and $93 mill, given his recent health issues. That seemed like a "keep Giannis happy" move at the time. He doesn't have to produce at his former levels, he just has to stay reasonably healthy and give them a solid 30 minutes a night. So far, he's only been playing 20. You would think he'd be able to handle that workload as the season goes along but it's something that will have to be monitored closely.
Curious
12:23
Injury lists are updated, but the Lakers status is befuddling. James/Davis are not shown as injured until the day of a game and then are listed as a GTD. Is this A) probably the truth, B) an attempt to fool their opponents into letting their guard down in game planning, or C) some sort of code for James/Davis not being or required at practice of the facility?
Dana Gauruder
12:25
I haven't heard anything from the Lakers beat writers about those guys not practicing. I think they'd be on top of that, if that were the case. LeBron and AD always seem to be nursing somewhat minor ailments and there have been times when they decide after warming up whether they're ready to go. I'm sure that drives fantasy players nuts but I doubt that will change.
Lebron
12:25
Lebron was quoted as saying “a lot must change”. Is this a shot at coaching, Gm, or players? One could assume all three. Lebron being the best player at 38, the offense stalling at times. The poor defensive decisions, last night ham ran a 2-3 scheme with the 6ers on fire. What comes next?
Dana Gauruder
12:28
I think he was mainly addressing how bad they were last night. Most lopsided loss of his career. Hachimura and Vincent will make a difference when they get back in the lineup. But again, we're 18-20 games into the season, and the Lakers have plenty of depth and firepower. They should be fine.

I keep hearing that Pistons are “good, they just need to get all fit”. They had Cade, Duren, Ausar and Ivey all fit last night and still got blown out by the next worst team. They’re just not good together. At what point do people admit the players just don’t work together and look to make some moves to change the team?
Dana Gauruder
12:30
There is a lot of soul searching going on in Detroit and now, fairly, people are starting to look at the job Troy Weaver has done. Injuries have played a major role -- they desperately need Bogie's shooting -- but I thought giving Stewart an extension was a mistake. They used their cap space on Joe Harris and Monte Morris -- both have been out, and Harris wasn't doing much prior to the injury. And it hasn't helped that Monty has tried a "tough love" approach with Ivey. He seems to have lost some confidence. It's a mess and I'm sure some vets will be dealt in the coming months.

Sengun a lock for all star in the west? The ASG needs his play. He’s just so good to watch.
Dana Gauruder
12:33
I mentioned a few weeks ago, I'm sure the Rockets are now glad they didn't overspend on Brook Lopez. That would have stulted Sengun's growth. It's difficult for many young players to get an All-Star nod but he'll certainly be in the mix if he keeps it up. As for ASG, I hope reverting to the East-West format will make it more competitive. It's been a complete joke in recent years.

Where do you expect Zach to land? And will it be before the new year? I like the idea of the Pacers. Yeah their D is terrible but it can’t get worse! him and Haliburton would be instant eastern threat.
Dana Gauruder
12:35
I would be very surprised if Indiana would take that approach. The Pacers don't need any offensive answers -- they lead the league in scoring. They need a defensive stopper or 2 -- LaVine certainly doesn't fit that bill. Would LaVine fit in Miami? Perhaps in that culture he'd improve at the defensive end and provide an offensive boost.
Drew
12:36
What would the Kings have to give up to get a player like Siakam?
Dana Gauruder
12:39
Well, let's look at the salary table. Siakam is making $38 mill. Fox, Sabonis and Murray aren't going anywhere. So now you are looking at some combination of Barnes (17 mill), Huerter (15.7), Monk ($10 mill), Lyles ($8 mill) and Mitchell ($5 mill) to match his salary. Plus, probably a future firster or two. Would be a pretty bold move on a potential rental, unless they got assurances he'd re-sign.

It’s funny how when the 2020 draft came around everyone thought it was a poor class and were quietly trying to trade into the 2021 draft “the deepest draft of extremely high talent in over a decade”. Yet 2020 has so far given, Edwards, Haliburton, Bane, Ball, Maxey, Vassell etc. but I can’t comfortably give you one of the 21 players that are currently on par or better than most of them let alone others that could jump. Maybe Mobley or Sengun, maybe Green & Franz. Barnes has struggled post rookie, even Cade has shown nothing but high usage low efficiency on a very bad team. Does this show we rely too heavily on opinion and scouting that may never be correct?
Dana Gauruder
12:41
What is shows is that it's not always easy to project how well these players will develop when you don't have much of a track record to rely on. You are dealing with one and dones, guys who play a year or 2 in G League, etc. I was much easier to project their impact when they used to go to major colleges for 2, 3 or 4 seasons.
Golden State Worrier
12:42
On a scale of 1-10, how shocked would you be to see the Warriors move Klay at the deadline?
Dana Gauruder
12:44
Oh, probably a 8. Are we reaching the point where the player believes he's still at an All-Star level when in truth the injuries have reduced his effectiveness? Klay isn't the consistent force he used to be but it would be awfully tough for them to trade him, given what he's done for the franchise.
Sam
12:45
Do you see Orlando making a move for a vet like Brogdon to run PG?
Dana Gauruder
12:46
Would be the type of move you'd make if you're serious about not only making the postseason but also winning a first-round series. I could definitely see that type of move by the Magic and they have some young talent to deal to a rebuilding team like Portland.
Golden State Worrier
12:46
Will the Grizz do much at the deadline with a view to setting up its 24/25 season?
Dana Gauruder
12:47
It all depends on what happens when Ja returns. Can they make a belated run at the play-in tournament? If they get hot in January, they're not going to give up on this season.

Many 5 star hotels have 8 foot beds now.
Dana Gauruder
12:48
There's your answer to that earlier question. That's one of the reasons why NBA teams usually stay in the same top-level hotels every season.

Speaking of John Collins, he has also looked solid, at least offensively, this season. Any chance the Jazz decide to trade him if they get an offer they particularly like, or are they married to the idea of the 3-big lineup?
