Thanks for all the early questions, guys! Sorting through them now and will dive in in just a sec...
Atlanta
1:02
All summer, we heard that the Hawks were likely to make a big trade this offseason.  Besides the Murray resigning and Collins being traded for next-to-nothing, there have been crickets.  Will they be adding another big name to play alongside Young and Murray? Will Capela be traded so they can resign Bey and Okongwu? Will Bufkin or Griffin get stuck on the bench? What's up in Atlanta?
Luke Adams
1:04
I wouldn't assume that the Hawks' lack of activity this offseason means they've decided they want to stick with this group after all. I still think something more drastic is coming sooner or later -- maybe it'll be at the 2024 deadline instead of during this offseason.
How they handle the Bey and Okongwu negotiations this month could be a tell. If they extend both players (especially Okongwu) I have to think Capela's days in Atlanta are numbered.

Will I be coming off bench when Harden gets here? I could run with younger players in second unit.
Luke Adams
1:06
You did embrace that role with the Lakers pretty well and it would make more sense to me than having both you and Harden start. At the same time, the Clippers don't have a fifth starter locked in yet, so a group that includes both of you alongside Kawhi, PG13, and Zubac isn't out of the question.
1:07
Of course, no guarantee a deal for Harden ever gets done. On that note...

How long will the harden mess continue? Clips only suitor. I think Philly just has to do it for whatever the clips offer. Would be marcus Morris and filler. I wouldn't offer much if I am Ballmer.
Keith
1:07
Do you think Harden will still be on the Philadelphia roster at the start of the regular season? If not, will the Heat get involved? Or think he will end on the Clippers?
Luke Adams
1:09
So, this is what the Sixers would like to get for Harden:
  1. A win-now return that maintain or improves their title chances this season.
  2. Nothing that compromises their potential 2024 cap room.

I don't see them getting that sort of package for a player in his mid-30s on an expiring contract that can't be extended.
1:10
Which means, from their perspective, the best approach might be standing pat -- and I think that's probably what they prefer to do. It's just a matter of whether or not they can convince Harden to stick out another year. If he starts really acting out, maybe they'll be forced to do something, but until then, I'd lean toward him being a Sixer on opening night.

Is there any reason Porter has not been released from Houston?  I'm sure there has to be so type of clause to release no penalty
Luke Adams
1:11
They were trying to trade him with some second-round picks to get a rotation player. I don't think anyone's interested, and now that they've signed Bullock, they'll probably just waive Porter at some point before opening night.
Trae Young
1:11
Why hasn't Trae Young been invited to play on Team USA? Feels like he's accomplished a lot more than others who've been added.
Luke Adams
1:12
Smaller, no-defense guards aren't very good fits for the international game. Even Dame didn't look all that great when he played for Team USA. Maybe Trae will get a shot down the line but I can't see it happening for Paris.
Steve Ballmer

When will Harden be a Clipper or is trade for Brogdon going to happen?
Luke Adams
1:14
To follow up on the Clippers and Harden, I actually think Brogdon is the better trade target for them, given what they're willing to give up and what their trade partner would be willing to take back. The Blazers - who already got a handful of first-round picks in the Dame/Holiday trades, probably won't drive nearly as hard a bargain as the Sixers. No need to think about giving up Mann in a deal for Brogdon, for instance.

Thinking of the drama with Ja and how the Griz actually play better without him, is it crazy to think they move him for a deal along the lines of FVV(now trade eligible) and Amen Thompson from Houston. Essentially it’s a good deal, Houston get a superstar and Memphis get a pass first AllStar PG in FVV and a possible future star in Amen.
Luke Adams
1:16
A few things here:
  1. VanVleet isn't trade-eligible yet. Not until Dec. 15.
  2. Ja Morant is still an All-NBA caliber player when his head is on right. The Grizzlies won't be looking to sell low on him.
  3. Even if Morant were available and VanVleet were tradable, I don't think the Rockets would give up a package like that. They targeted VanVleet specifically for his veteran leadership and intensity on defense, two things Morant lacks. And they're super high on Amen.

The Suns trade of DA for Nurkic, Grayson Allen and pieces did not return fair value but may be an improvement of the overall roster. Given the abundant scorers on the team do you think the Suns will really miss Ayton all that much?
Luke Adams
1:19
Not based on the current roster, no. They have enough scoring, and Nurkic is the better defender if he's healthy. Having said that, I think for the trade to really qualify as a win for the Suns, at least one of Allen and Little will need to emerge as a reliable rotation piece. The Ayton/Nurkic straight-up swap comes with some risk.

Do you see the Pacers making any in season trades this year?
Luke Adams
1:21
If Buddy Hield doesn't get dealt before the season, I'd expect it to happen by the trade deadline. Worth watching McConnell and Theis too. And maybe even Bruce Brown and/or Obi Toppin if they don't fit in as planned or if the Pacers aren't in playoff contention at the deadline.

With Dame finally moved and shockingly to Bucks, likely settling Giannis. Who do you think will be the next star on the move…ignoring Harden as that’s a given he wants out.
Luke Adams
1:23
Wouldn't shock me if the Bulls underperform this season and one (or both!) of LaVine and DeRozan is moved at the deadline. The Philly situation is worth watching closely too. I doubt anything happens with Embiid during the season but if the Sixers don't have a good year, they'll be under a lot of pressure to add an impact player next summer to keep Embiid happy.

Can the Pistons get anything useful for a package of 2020 lottery picks James Wiseman (#2) and Killian Hayes (#7)?
Luke Adams
1:25
If they attach a second-rounder or two, maybe... Don't think either guy has value as more than an expiring contract at this point.
Chuba
1:25
Name me one player that is not involved in trade rumors that you think could be moved before the season starts, I'm going to go with Dorian Finney-Smith of the Nets
Luke Adams
1:27
I'd keep an eye on the teams with roster crunches. Like, yeah, the Thunder could just waive some guys to get down to 15 players. But maybe as part of that roster-setting process they'll be willing to trade someone like Kenrich Williams to a team that needs a wing.

Yay chat! Are people really being serious when they say the Bucks defense will be much worse with Dame instead of Jrue? Given that the scheme is intact and it's just on Connaughton to chase around guards now, that's hard to take seriously. And the offense will make up for any drop.
Luke Adams
1:29
Eh, I think there will be some drop-off -- Holiday's one of the league's best perimeter defenders. But the impact would be greater if you removed one of the bigger rim protectors (Giannis or Lopez) from the mix. And like you said, the offensive bump should more than make up for it.
Matt
1:29
What type of contract extension do you see the Celtics giving Jrue?  3-4 years?
Luke Adams
1:31
I'm curious about that. Porzingis only got two years. Maybe the Celtics would be OK doing something similar with Jrue. Maybe three years. Hard for me to see four unless the vibes are great this year.
For what it's worth, Jrue will become eligible for a two-year extension in February and a three- or four-year extension on April 1, so if they don't get anything done in February or March, that's a pretty strong season they're looking at something longer-term.

Does Lonzo play again?
Luke Adams
1:33
I hope so and I think so. Whether he'll ever look like his old self again is a tougher prediction to make.

What would it take to get Brogdon to the Magic?
Luke Adams
1:35
Maybe Gary Harris, Cole Anthony, and a pick? Or if they still like Anthony, they could take him out in favor of Chuma Okeke and a more favorable (ie. lighter protected) pick.
Keith

Thoughts on Boston's frontcourt. With Detroit having a surplus of bigs, would Boston be able to trade for Bagley or Wiseman using whoever they can get for the G. Williams TPE, and then whatever else is needed for matching salary (Pritchard or several of the minimum salaries). Or if either of these 2 are too expensive, what about getting D. Theis back from Indiana? Granted this trade would not be able to go through for 2 months after the TPE is used on a different player.
Luke Adams
1:37
I wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about Bagley or Wiseman if I were the Celtics. Someone like Theis is probably a more viable target. Feel like Boston would prefer to have a reliable veteran who knows what he's doing and where he should be on the court, even if the upside is low, as opposed to a young guy like Bagley or Wiseman who still may have untapped potential but who can't necessarily be relied upon to play in big games.
