Why are people suddenly backing Vic for ROY after constant support for Chet all year? I agree Wemby will be a better player in the future but RN he’s just not. He gets blocks but isn’t actually doing great on D as a whole. His efficiency is terrible for a C and Spurs are not much better with him on the floor. Chet is 2nd in DPOTY rankings and putting up good numbers on amazing efficiency, while having to share with much better players. How can it be a debate? If they were on opposite teams I think Chet would look even better and Vic would struggle to contribute this season. It’s an award for who is currently playing the best, not who has the highest ceiling, it just feels harsh on a very high performing rookie contributing to a championship level team.

Well, they are both worthy. Obviously, the Spurs are still a bad team with major D issues. But VW is putting up huge numbers despite a minutes restriction. Holmgren is posting solid numbers but OKC doesn't need him to score, so the stats aren't as impressive, particularly in recent games. I'm sure if you asked Holmgren whether he'd rather win ROY or have a deep playoff run this season, he'd pick the latter.

Is the Mavericks interest in Kyle Kuzma and Daniel Gafford real or should they look into PJ Washington and Nick Richards instead?
Dana Gauruder
11:05
The Mavs seem intent on getting another starter level PF. The problem for them is limited assets. They don't have the expiring contracts or first-rounders that non-contenders like the Wizards/Hornets covet. So it's going to be difficult for them to construct a trade to get a player like Kuzma.

Should 76ers take a flier in Miles Bridges? I feel this season may just be their year with how Embiid/Maxey have been playing and he’s likely getable for cheap. He’s as good of a 2-way player as his namesake Mikal Bridges or OG. and he’s the perfect complement to the way they play. Moving Oubre to the bench and staggering Harris/Bridges shots would give them 5 players who are able to go off if any are struggling in the POFFs(which is likely). I fully get the off court issues are a long term issue, but at worst they get a great player for this season to chase that chip while keeping their depth. A protected 1st and KJ Martin, Korkmaz wouldn’t be a bad offer?
Dana Gauruder
11:07
That may be the type of player/deal that Morey would prefer. No long-term obligation and a player looking to build his value and getting a chance to play for a winner. Getting a first rounder, similar to what the Hornets are getting in the Rozier-Lowry deal, would add to the appeal for Charlotte. I could see something like that going down.

Bagley can bang at center but he has history of injuries, Should they trade gafford anyways? Specially after signing jemison to 10days, or A line up of Tyus Poole Kuzma Bagley Gafford?
Dana Gauruder
11:11
I imagine that you've seen the Wizards are willing to trade everybody except Bilal for the right price. My guess is that 2 years down the road, practically the entire roster will be different. I saw Bagley play quite a bit in Detroit -- he'll put up numbers but I'd rather have a defender like Gafford. Doesn't it seem like the Wizards are looking for the best deal they can get for Kuzma? He's near the top of everyone's list of players likely to get dealt prior to the deadline.

Any possibility the Knicks kick the tires on Kyle Lowry who was just dealt to Charlotte today?  They're looking for someone to back up Brunson and give some scoring spark off the bench. Plus, he is an expiring contract, a vet who has won, and NY has not shied away from Villanova players.
Dana Gauruder
11:15
I believe the Knicks are at one of the tax aprons -- not 100 percent sure on that -- which would make them ineligible to sign Lowry if he's bought out. They could trade for him if they can cobble enough salary together -- obviously, Fournier would have to be part of the package. However, not sure the Knicks would be interested in doing that, given Lowry's recent injury history.
Trade Idea
11:16
Poole for Grimes and Fournier + Picks? or Poole for Isaac + one more player and Picks? Or Lowry for Poole Swap?
Dana Gauruder
11:18
Given Poole's contract, I don't see him having much value at the moment. He's averaging less with the Wizards than he did in Golden State and he's a below average 3-point shooter. So, I don't the Knicks, Magic or Hornets would take on his salary.

Is Tyus Jones a better fit for knicks or D'Angelo Russell is a better fit?
Dana Gauruder
11:20
If you're looking for a more dynamic player, Russell is the obviously choice. If you're looking for a steady backup who would be happy to go to a contender, Jones is your guy. The latter has a much greater chance of happening. What would the Lakers want in return? If they're going to deal Russell, it will be part of a package for an All-Star level talent.

The Kings seem to struggle against teams with size, are there any impact targets you see them going after that would help boost the team?
Dana Gauruder
11:22
Obviously, Siakam is off the board but the Kings are actively shopping. Barnes, Huerter, Mitchell are all in play, in terms of players they'd be willing to deal. So far, they've shown reluctance to move Murray. I would be surprised if the Kings stood pat before the deadline.

What do you see the Pistons doing at the deadline? Deals involving Bojan, Burks, Gallo, Muscala?
Dana Gauruder
11:25
They are definitely open for business. Burks has pumped his value with his recent scoring binges. Bojan hasn't been nearly as steady as he was last season, so maybe his value has dropped a bit, but he could still help a contender off the bench. Muscala and Gallinari are short-term additions -- Pistons were just looking to get rid of Bagley's contract. So yes, any or all of those guys could be dealt before the deadline.
Steven Glandsberg
11:26
Who says no. Bojan/Burks to NY, Founier/Grimes/Arcidacono/DET '24 1st/'25 BKLN 2nd to DET. Knicks get everything they are looking for..]A guard who can ballhandle/score, power forward depth, and a very trade-able contract for next season with Bojan
Dana Gauruder
11:28
The Knicks and Pistons front offices have a recent history of dealing with each other, so something like that is very plausible. The Pistons would like to get that firster back from the Knicks because it would give them flexibility to include firsters in a deal for an impact player this summer.

So is Lowry going to stay with the Hornets the rest of the year or do you think he'll ask for a buyout?
Dana Gauruder
11:29
I doubt Lowry will play a minute for Charlotte. He'll either be included in another deal or bought out if they can't re-direct him.

Should wizards draft Sarr, Topic, or someone? Why? Is point guard the biggest need? Specially that delon and tyus are expiring contract?
Dana Gauruder
11:31
You can't predict how the lottery will shake out. Point guard will definitely be a high priority but the Wizards need talent across the board. If there's a wing or big man with a higher ceiling at their pick, that's who they should draft.
Jazzy Jeff
11:31
Will the Jazz go after a PG like Murray or Brogdon?
Dana Gauruder
11:34
The Jazz are one of the more unpredictable teams heading into the trade deadline due to their recent surge. Are they going to be buyers or sellers? I don't see Brogdon going there -- more likely a serious contender will make that move. Murray would be a more interesting pickup. Would he and George be your backcourt going forward?
KJ
11:35
Thoughts on KATs game last night?  I mean 62 is impressive but in a loss to the Hornets of all teams and you are  trying ti be the number 1 seed
Dana Gauruder
11:38
Didn't get to see that game but it was an odd collapse. Minnesota got outscored by 18 in the fourth quarter to a team that had won only 9 games. Great quote from Finch -- “It was an absolute disgusting performance of defense and immature basketball all through the game."

11:38
Who is going to get Bruce Brown?
Dana Gauruder
11:40
I'm sure the Nuggets would love to get him back but don't think they have the assets Toronto would want. More likely, the Knicks or Lakers would like get a defensive-minded guard/wing of his caliber.
HeatBaby!!!
11:41
I'm happy the Heat picked up Rozier, but, please tell me that's not the only move the Heat are doing.
Dana Gauruder
11:42
Lowry's contract was their biggest bargaining chip and they also tossed in a first rounder. So, I don't think you'll see much more from the Heat before the deadline.

A couple of Laker things...Can we expect Gabe Vincent to contribute this year?  I think we keep DLo, keep that continuity and trade Rui/Prince plus our 1st for a 3D guard and SF for the second unit.
Dana Gauruder
11:44
Pretty much comes down to whether they're writing off Vincent's season. He had knee surgery last month with a 6-8 week timetable. That could put him on track to contribute the last couple of months, but you can never be sure how a guy will bounce back from a knee procedure. The Lakers seem likely to do SOMETHING, whether it's Murray, Brown or some other potential target.

Do you think the Magic should try to acquire Anfernee Simons in order to improve their outside shooting? I think the Blazers should focus on Sharpe and Scoot as their backcourt.
Dana Gauruder
11:46
He'd be the kind of upgrade the Magic could use in their backcourt. Young guy, solid shooter, contract isn't outrageous -- I could the fit there.
Marcus Smart
11:47
Should memphis trade me? My teammates Brandon Clarke, Ziare Williams, Jaka Laravia, Waive the towell and surrender? or just keep on fighting?
Dana Gauruder
11:49
I'd like to see how Smart would mesh with Morant, Bane, etc. when (hopefully) they have better luck on the injury front next season. I think they're still solid contenders when they get all their pieces back. Golden State had a season like that when Curry was injured.
KJ
11:49
So who wins the Heat Hornet trade?  I say Heat.  Younger and a viable starter at a spot they had issues all year AND the pick is lottery protected I think
Dana Gauruder
11:51
From the Hornets perspective, they get off a contract with 2 more seasons left and a future firster, too. Could be a win-win for both sides, depending on how the Heat fare in the postseason.
