With OG being the main trade target for basically every contender, does his trade being finished help the Lavine trade market move? I feel the OG return has to make the Bulls more realistic in their ask thus possibly greasing the wheels on something coming together
Dana Gauruder

First LaVine has to prove he can stay on the court for awhile. Looks like he's close to coming back from his latest injury. Didn't help his market that the Bulls have played better without him. Their ideal window to trade him was probably last offseason. There might be a contender with an impatient owner that comes along at the last minute and makes a panic move. Otherwise, I'm skeptical Chicago can get a decent package for him.

Look, I get it. We've done well despite our injuries. We haven't been healthy. Individually, guys have played well. But clearly, we can't sustain success with this roster. Too many close losses, too many failures in the clutch, and way too much Mitchell iso-ball. We need to make a trade. Preferably a 3 or 4 with two-way upside. Siakam? Kuzma? Aim lower?

There's a sense around their organization that this is a pivotal year, given how much they invested in Mitchell asset-wise. It's also kind of stunning to old schoolers like me. Cleveland was going nowhere 2 years ago. They made a real nice jump last year to get into the playoffs. This year, they've had significant injuries and other issues (Rubio, for example). Focusing on your question, I do think the Cavs will be active. I just don't know if they have the assets remaining to make a major move. The Lakers were deft last season by working the edges. Cleveland may have to do the same.

What moves are the Pistons going to make at the deadline? Is Weaver on his way out?
Dana Gauruder
11:11
What a disaster. Can you realistically ask Pistons fans to go through another four or five-year plan with a different GM? Or do you stay the course with a guy who's plan has blown up in his face? I do think you'll see guys like Bogie and Burks being dealt for assets. But the only way to do something truly significant is to include Ivey in a package deal. I do believe Gores will have no choice but to fire Weaver after the season or the trade deadline.

Will the Anunoby trade lead to a domino effect across the league? Also, grades for each team?
Dana Gauruder
11:13
I actually liked the move for both teams. The Knicks have been thirsting for a 3-and-D specialist. Anunoby fits that bill, plus from every indication they'll be able to re-sign him. For the Raptors, they get a young point guard that a lot of teams wanted. How Barrett fits with Barnes long-term remains to be seen but getting Quickley settles the issue of FVV's replacement.

How about this for the Knicks next move? Knicks get Capella,  Monte Morris & a 2027 2nd from DET - Hawks get Achiuwa, Joe Harris,  Mavs 2024 and a 2025 2nd - Pistons get Fournier, Arcidacono and the Pistons heavily protected 20241st back from the Knicks
Dana Gauruder
11:16
Interesting move for everyone involved. Obviously, most significant part of the deal is Knicks getting a starting center. Not sure if the Hawks would go for that package but it's not bad. Would be a good move for Detroit -- more cap flexibility for the offseason, plus reacquiring that firster would facilitate future moves.

Is there a market out there for CP3 that the warriors could explore. Since rookie Podz fits the warriors system so much better can they trade CP3 for a defensive big man?
Dana Gauruder
11:19
They coud trade Paul to another contender if they decide to basically wave the white flag on the season. But it wouldn't make sense for them to take salary back beyond this season unless they get a good young player in return. Paul's non-guaranteed salary for next season is very valuable to a tax team like the Warriors.

Who are some realistic FA or trade targets for the Sixers next summer?
Dana Gauruder
11:23
I don't know if the Sixers have specific players in mind just yet. Priorities change around the league change, depending on how the season shakes. Morey's surely thinking that top players would be thrilled to go to Philly to play with Embiid and Maxey. Kawhi? Mitchell? Zion? Siakam? Grant? Markkanen? There are all kinds of possibilities and that's what Philly's front office is banking on.

Trae Young for FVV a pick and Tate, who says no? Hawks get elevated D while keeping the assist contributions and outside shooting in Fred, a pick and good 2-way role player in Tate who is underrated while also giving Murray the chance to become that lead guy he wanted to be. Houston get the offensive force they have been crying out for post-Harden who’s game fits perfectly with Sengun and Smith/Eason. It may be at the expense of some D but with the other players being good defenders it should be a better fit, like early Steph years the good defenders can hide his poor defence while contributing extreme offence.
Dana Gauruder
11:27
Would be a pretty radical move for the Rockets, given how heavily they invested in FVV -- not only for his on-court production but his leadership. Given how much improvement they've already shown, I don't think they'd make a franchise-altering move like that at this stage. I would say that the Hawks could blow things up and move one of their star guards. I just doubt the destination would be Houston.

Sat with a few Detroit fans the other night and they are all worried Cade is going to publicly request a trade soon. Is that crazy? Have you ever heard of a “future cornerstone” on a rookie contract go public with a trade request?(I can’t remember any that are viewed as future franchise players) After watching his interviews and comments, he’s clearly not happy but even if he does they can technically force him to stay a very long time if they match any offer when he eventually gets to FA. He’s stuck.
Dana Gauruder
11:31
He doesn't have much leverage. He doesn't even become an RFA until the summer of 2025. Of course he's frustrated. Who wouldn't be after losing 28 straight? The franchise has failed to get any stars around him despite drafting high the last few years. Why would the Pistons give up the one "keeper" that they have?

What do the Knicks do now? They’ve traded their most valuable young assets and a 2nd with more value than 2 of their 1sts. If the rumours are true, and they’re gearing up for a bigger move what can they really offer to outbid other teams? Randle is not a winning player of value, Brunson is off limits and their picks just aren’t that valuable. They may have made their big move for a role player(granted a very good one, but still a role player). Only thing I can think is that they’re hoping to hook a big fish in FA in the summer. What’s your thoughts?
Dana Gauruder
11:34
They don't have to do anything else but like another question I received earlier, they could go for a starting center with Robinson out. Picks are still valuable to many teams and Fournier's contract would offer cap relief to teams looking to shed salary for offseason flexibility.

Do you think SGA should be in the mvp race since the thunder are number 2 in the west.
Dana Gauruder
11:36
He's putting up big numbers and the Thunder are 22-9. He absolutely should be considered in the MVP. If OKC finishes top three in the West and SGA continues to produce as he has, he definitely should be among the top 3-5 candidates.
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
11:37
Do you think there are any teams who'd be interested in acquiring Hawks center Clint Capela?    Would anyone be willing to take on Hunter?
Dana Gauruder
11:38
I think we're going to find the answers to those questions in the next month or so. I have to believe Capela is very movable, as there aren't a whole lot of available starting centers.
Dejounte Murray
11:40
Could the Hawks get 2 first rounders for Murray?
Dana Gauruder
11:41
His extension isn't outrageous by current standards. If there's a contender that considers him the missing piece, they'd probably be willing to give up a couple of firsters. But that's the catch -- those picks won't be as valuable as ones from a non-contender.

The Jazz are playing well right now having won 8 of 11. Last month they lost to Dallas by 50 and turned it around last night beating the Mavs by 37. Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton, and Kelly Olynyk, names mentioned in rumors, are a big part of the recent surge. A lot can happen between now and the trade deadline, but do you expect to see the Jazz deal for assets, stay pat, or even look to add to their team?
Dana Gauruder
11:43
They will be one of the closely watched teams at the deadline. They're still I believe four games under .500 and no one considers them a serious contender. It would make sense for them to move some vets and acquire more young players/draft capital, so I expect them to be quite active over the next month.

What trades/moves in your opinion need to be done to make us competitive?
Dana Gauruder
11:46
They haven't gone on a Pistons style free fall but they are really struggling without Ball and Williams. Rozier would seem to be the most logical player to be moved. Hayward's expiring contract would have some value but Charlotte would have to get at least one quality young player to make that move. Otherwise, better off just letting him come off the books after the season.

Whats the Mavs next move? Is Stewart a good fit?
Dana Gauruder
11:49
Never been much of a Stewart fan. The Pistons have tried to mold him into a stretch 4. He's done OK from 3 but opponents are happy to let him fire away out there. I just see him as an undersized center, probably best suited for a backup role. He just really doesn't have one skill that stands out.

Does Tobias get moved ?
Dana Gauruder
11:52
The Sixers would really have to get a superstar level talent to move a productive player like Tobias with an expiring contract. Otherwise, Morey has no incentive to surrender a significant chunk of his summer cap space. That's a 39 mill salary coming off his books and he's a solid, if unspectacular, player.

many injuries this early in the season. Are injuries happening more often?
Dana Gauruder
11:54
I don't think any more than we've seen in recent years. Players just aren't as durable as they used to be, despite all the sophisticated training methods. Fewer back to backs than ever and teams are still using load management tactics despite CBA rule changes to discourage it.

Bol Bol played twenty minutes last night after only playing 21 minutes all season. He responded with 11 points and 9 rebounds against a Deandre Ayton-less Blazers team. Were the Suns showcasing him or just finally giving him a chance?
Dana Gauruder
11:57
Phoenix has been tinkering with its second unit for the last few months. Vogel has been trying all kinds of things. Interesting note from the Az Republic beat writer -- other than Gordon (sixth man), all the reserve spots are basically up for grabs. Okogie has been getting minutes lately for his defense but he adds little to nothing offensively. I think we'll continue to see their bench players shuttled in and out of the rotation.
Jalen Johnson
11:58
Being hurt for awhile definitely hurt his case, but do you think Jalen Johnson is near the top of the running for Most Improved Player this year?
Dana Gauruder
12:00
He's put up significantly higher numbers, in large part because he's been starting and his minutes have basically doubled. However, as many have pointed out during this hour, the Hawks are floundering and changes are coming. It's harder for a player to win awards from a team that isn't winning.
